The Ford Ranger owners manual suggest the following steps to remove the tailgate and in-line connector for the backup camera:
    1. Locate and disconnect the in-line connector. It is under the pickup box on the center right-hand side of the vehicle near the spare tire.
    2. There is a protective cap in the glove box. Install it on the in-line connector that remains under the pickup box. (optional)
    3. Partially lower the tailgate. Carefully feed the tailgate harness up through the gap between the pickup box and the bumper and place it out of the way under the Ranger pickup box.
    4. Lower the Ranger tailgate.
    5. Use a screwdriver to gently pry the spring clip on each connector past the head of the support screw. Disconnect the cable.
    6. Disconnect the other cable.
    7. Lift the tailgate to 45 degrees from horizontal.
    8. Lift the right side off its hinge.
    9. Lift the tailgate to 80 degrees from horizontal.
    10. Remove the tailgate from the left side hinge by sliding it to the right.
Reverse the steps to reinstall the tailgate.
This tailgate removal procedure works on the following years of Ford Ranger
2019 Ford Ranger ( XL, XLT, Lariat )
2020 Ford Ranger ( XL, XLT, Lariat )
2021 Ford Ranger ( XL, XLT, Lariat )
2022 Ford Ranger ( XL, XLT, Lariat )

I have a 2022 Ranger and the right side of the tailgate just popped out when I was opening it. Freaked me out because there is a new hinge retaining hardware assembly that is supposed to prevent this but your video shows clearly that prior models didn’t have it so it’s no big deal. I was ready to go to the dealership and go Yee Yee on em. Thanks.

Hi I am based in the UK and have to remove the bolts to remove the tailgate. Looking to fit the mounting pins you have on the tailgate and on the chassis. Do you know where I can purchase them?

These came installed this way from the factory - I'm really not sure where a good place to purchase them aftermarket would be, sorry

I've thought about removing mine for a diy truck bed camper build but not crazy about losing the back up cam. Anyone know of an adapter for the Ranger for an aftermarket cam plugging into the stock socket after tailgate removal?

The tailgate very easily can slide back in, left side first and then right side. However, I had a hard time at first getting the right side in because the little tab wouldn't slide in due to a plastic piece not letting it. The solution was simple: just use your finger and rotate that little plastic piece until the notch lines up. Then just slide the tailgate tab in there and you're all fixed. There is no need to unscrew anything, use tools etc

Not sure how much they new, I've seen used ones for around $300-400

The tailgate attachment is very cheap on the new Ranger. Taking it on and off can bend that bracket causing it to just fall off during normal open/closing. Mine fell off the other day and scratched the paint.

What about the dummy plug you put on after the removal of the tailgate found in the glovebox on new trucks? www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/what-is-this-plug-in-module.2451/
Sorry one down for not mentioning it.

    • @PYR-Auto
      @PYR-Auto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You don't need to put the dummy plug in just to remove or change the tailgate but if your going to have it off for an extended time or doing something that could cause dirt to get in the connector then yes it is a good idea to use.
