I've driven 5-speed most of my life, but just moved to Germany and got a 6-speed... I drove the car all the way home before I realized I had no idea how to reverse. Thanks a bunch!

We are struggling this morning because my housemate left her car and there’s a scheduled mowing for our lawn. We had to move the car and the car keeps on forwarding and almost hit our house. 😂 Thank you for this video. Now we know that there’s this security feature. Saved our day! ❤

Thank you so very much for this very helpful video As shows what is necessary.
I was pretty much stuck in a rental Volkswagen camper van because I had completely forgot about pushing down on the shift to override the safety mechanism.
I know many others have said this, but I’ll say it again your video was literally a lifesaver for me right now today!
I would’ve been so embarrassed to have to call the renter back and tell him after I told him I knew how to drive a stick that I could not get this van into reverse.
I wish you all the best and thanks again for your kindness.

Glad the video helped, that's the main purpose of our channel.
No need to be embarrassed whatsoever, every manufacturer has a gimmick of its own, who would remember everything?
I remember a long time ago I happened to try and get an old Renault 4 in reverse. I managed to grow a small beard until I succeded 🙂.
Happy driving and vacation and all the best to you from Despairrepair.

05:02 Not all cars makes that click noise 05:00 (you were talling about) when engaging reverse, mostly older non synchronised reverse gears with straight cut design makes it
newer cars tend to be silent when engaging reverse

      Hi and thanks for watching!
The old-school way is to fiddle around with the gear shifter (pull it up, push it down, see if there's any safety ring, switch, or else).
All car manufacturers have a gimmick of their own which is in most cases, easy to spot and use.
A bit crude method, but in most cases effective.
      Hope this helps.

      Hi and thanks for watching!
Watched your video and to be honest it shouldn't be that hard. It looks like a real struggle.
My father-in-law has a C class (LHD) with that kind of shifter so I know.
In that car, all you have to do is give it a slightly harder push to the to the left and it goes in reverse.
The barrier just gives a slightly harder resistance.

@@DespairRepair @Despair Repair My car is SLK-200 2012 very rare to have it in manual with 80k kms bought it used cant imagine how hard it was when new
on the other hand chevrolet camaro 2010+ V6 models uses the same pattern and reverse lockout design but it seems less of a pain from videos( never drovd on) but i do have V8 Camaro 2013 which uses electronic reverse lockout and reverse is next to 5th gear the gate closes when you exceed 5kmh of 3mph or so,
      here camaro v6 model

@@DespairRepair Which year is the C class you are talking about ?! any issues or noises with the clutch or dual mass flywheel ? i drive mine as smooth as automatic if not smoother but once i tried to not rev match on downshift and there is this noise with some vibrations i am pretty sure they came from the DMF ? or could be some loose bolts in the clutch assembly; but there are some random faint noises when cold starting and disappears when clutch is being pushed in
DMF Lifespan seems to be around 60-80k kms ( i bought it used with 80k kms and did 10k kms on it i think it has likr 90k right now ) and the noise and vibrations getting worse if i ever tried to downshift without rev matching (out of curiosity)

Hi, thanks for watching and for sharing!
Well, the point of the video was to give an idea of how to find the reverse gear. Sort of a universal helper.
It would be best to make a video for every car, maybe we'll do that someday 🙂.
