Based on purely gameplay, I'd say PC2 looked stiff as hell, especially on corners. Dirt 4 on the other hand has this smooth transition between corners and straight and that makes it better to look at.
Based on this gameplay I would agree. I'm not totally convinced though as I've seen other gameplay which makes PC2 look a lot better than it does here.
Really? nice driving for using a pad. Also, what settings & assists do you use for both games? Can you please make this exact video instead without the H.U.D. and just in car :D?
That's because dirt 4's camera is smoothed out a lot. In pc2 you're not really supposed to drive in 3rd person anyway so it follows the cars movement more closely.
Ive played both Project cars 2 and Dirt 4 with a wheel and Project cars feels way more realistic than Dirt. I was genuinely surprised how good project cars 2 felt, but it's a great game.

Everyone here seems to be an RX national champ!! Would love to know how many of theese guys here have ever raced a car on mixed surface at least once....
The PC2 representation of the track is almost perfect, even down to the track textures. The sound of the car is much more realistic, I heard that car an FIA rallycross event at Lydden hill last year and it definitely didn't sound muffled at all, all of the pops and the "machine gun" ALS are pretty accurately loud.
played both, pCARS 2 rallycross is far better and more realistic then the Dirt version. WIll be hard for them to even get that to people due to Dirt community believing in their game (and it´s a fun one) but if you´re up for rallycross simulation, then pCARS beats Dirt by far
Nick RC MVP Clan cant Second that at all since dirt went for a Very basic model to make RX easily enjoyable but it's Alright, no use getting in an Argument. We got all the Games available to us which is great, so just Enjoy what ever you like :)
Nick RC MVP Clan Dirt it's simply arcade when you compare to PC2 and yes we are in this point when Codemasters label get new quote ARCADE not SIM. Viva la simulación de PC2!!!!
Oh, wow, you are right. I actually had no idea that Shift 2 was good with pad but I just gave it a try and it is good indeed. You really changed my perception of that game now. I always thought that it was one of the worst NFS and I didn't even finish the career in it but it looks like it's a lot better than I thought. And yeah, in that case it really makes no sense that Project Cars 1 and 2 are so bad with pad.
It's bad with a pad because the game is meant to be played with a wheel...A car in real life would handle like shit with a controller lol. I know it's still a game but they want to make it right for a wheel.
+Sun Levi There are quite a few racing games that work well with both wheel and pad though, so I don't think that making it right for wheel automatically means that it has to be bad for pad. At least not THIS bad. It's fine if you are faster with wheel in a game like this but I think they should be able to find a way to make it at least enjoyable with pad as well. Other games that are made for wheel also manage that.
PCARS 2: -more realistic physics (to me - best rallying physics in videogames at the moment); -tyre wear; -weather; -awful engine sounds. Dirt 4: -FIA license; -more fun to drive; -MUCH better sounds; -better stock settings for FOV.
I'm not smoking, I'm listening. PCars 2 sounds are absolute bullshit. They're neither realistic nor pleasant to hear - I'm not driving a chainsaw, right?
The high-pitched guttural spitting of small engines being pushed too far is the signature sound of rallycross. Dirt 4 on the other hand sounds like a vaccuum cleaner having an asthma attack.
Dirt 4 looks easier than pcars and pcars seems to have realistic physics . they both look equally good graphics-wise although the 3rd person camera in dirt 4 is 100x times better than pcars. I haven't played dirt 4, only pcars2 but I think dirt looks like more fun, whereas pcars is probably more challenging.
Not necessarily.... I have both games and play with wheel and pedals, so it's obvious that the guy in the video is driving in "gamer mode" in dirt 4, instead of "simulator mode" which is way harder. It's like having 2 different physics engines for the same game. But yeah PC2 is also pretty hard! especially without the wheel....
Great video :) One question: Is that normal that the trees go from green to brown, because i was wondering that for myself in my game, and am not sure if it is correct or that it is somekind of bug/glitch
Are you talking about Project Cars 2? During the same race they should stay the same but in different races they can be different, since you can race in different seasons (spring, summer, winter etc). And if you already like this video, then you should also have a look at my others. I didn't spend much time on this one compared to many of the others. :)
You need to put what game it is in the top corner all the way through the video. For people like me who like to skip to the action I have no fucking idea which one I’m watching!
DiRT 4 has more dirt :) Rallycross is my favourite part of this game and I was considering getting PC2 to see if it was as enjoyable so thanks Gleiber for your videos and comparative review.
I think the comparison would be better if you were more proficient at pCars2(not that I'm saying that I could beat you). Googled this video because I was wondering if I should buy Dirt 4, but it looks like there's a decent amount of RallyCross in pCars2 I haven't touched. Dirt 4 does look like lots of fun though! Thanks for the vid!!
The point of the video is to show how the two different games are when you are playing with gamepad (not with a steering wheel). And Project Cars simply is that bad then. You need a wheel to have proper control in that game. In Dirt you don't. So the bad control in Project Cars is actually exactly what the video is supposed to show. That's what that game is like without a wheel.
Looks like dirt was easier to get a smooth slide going (was it gamer handling?) but it would be interesting to hear which you actually preferred from your experience
People saying sound is better on dirt must be def. Man the sound on pcars 2 is absolutely insane, engine is freaking monster, that turbo whistle, those backfires, holy crap.. sound of tyres, breakes... sound on dirt is so weak and damped. Don`t get me started on physics, the way the car just rockets outwards of the curves if u push it too hard is just spot on AWD. This feeling is just absent on dirt, so easy too stay in control of your driving line all the time, even collisions have almost no effect at all, seems like theres no weight to it. It's fun and all, but faaaar from the experience pcars provides. Only thing better on dirt 4 is the sense of speed, because of the FOV, that u can tweak in pcars for the same effect, even tho it should be better anyways. I suppose its cause the game is focused on cockpit view; it's what I use anyways, so I dont feel lack at speed at all. And with VR its a fucking dream :)
Rx on pc2 is sooo fun. It's the 1st racing game ive played since cruisin usa, and rx was a great place to start for me since at first I was horrible at corners on most paved circuits. I could be totally wrong but Dirt seems to me to be more of an arcade racer than project cars so idk if they can really be compared to each other.
Yeah, Dirt 4 is very arcade. And well, a comparison can also be there to show that two things are very different. This video basically shows that Dirt 4 is awesome for arcade players and PC2 is not. If you think that PC2 is fun, then I assume that you are more of a sim racer and playing with wheel?
Paragleiber (Gleiber) I'm going to get a wheel and pedals I think, but I've been playing with a ps4 controller on pc. I've thought about it and I enjoy pc2 because of how frustrating it is. I can definitely understand most people just wanting to have fun racing. I really enjoy rallycross in pc2 so I might pick up dirt 4. I've heard only good things.
Wow, I am surprised that you enjoy PC2 with a gamepad. For me it is just horrible. And I am not a fun racer. I like to play competitively, trying to be as fast as possible. But in PC2 it's already hard to keep the car on the track at all. That's very annoying. Just getting around the track safely should be easy and then mastering it and gaining those last few seconds should be the challenge.
Paragleiber (Gleiber) i understand believe me. It takes me a couple days to become comfortable with a single car on a single track but getting to the point where I actually win is what I enjoy. Many reviews mentioned controls with pad were trash so if I enjoy it now I can only imagine it with a wheel.
Lol physics really? Pc2 takes the cake on that! Dirt is made for the casual racer to play on a controller vs pc2 which is designed for a wheel. The rallycross is on point for pc2
Both games are cool, but i must say that project cars 2 naild it even on the rally cross. The sound is just amazing in project cars 2! But most rally drivers sits inside of a car :)
PC2 is just on throttle, off throttle, on throttle, off throttle. Dirt feels more fast paced because it's a lot of wide open throttle racing. both are great though
If I want to know how hard throwing 600bhp around Is, I play pc2. For fun and just doing the whole race sideways, I have dirt 4 in fun mode. I have a wheel and pc2 is still unplayable with a pad.
The racing line just makes people worse in my opinion. They pay more attention to the stupid pointers than the actual track. And if you're half decent at racing games it really does nothing for you.
Actual gameplay wise for Rallycross - Dirt 4 Wins Even more so - Dirt Rally wins because these games were created with the sole experience being rally. The project cars 2 mode feels too tacked on, it excels in road cars and tarmac driving but adding rally / snow / dirt they just haven't done as good. Its nice to have it I guess but at the same time i'd rather they stick and master 1 discipline over trying to be a jack of all trades and not really nailing any of then perfectly.
Yep... here is new king who can easy show for Codemasters how should be look properly SIM racing game... I like Dirt but... but it's too easy and feel much more arcade that's true and pain in ass for many Dirt lovers. PC2 I believe if they will be like create rally game then sure 100% will be the best rally game ever. Codemasters must to have keep looking behind because that's over put many players in wrong mind with their arcade mode games.
Both of them are great games. D4 for arcade players, meanwhile PC2 for sim racers. Offcorse RX is different in both of them, each has its own pluses and minuses. One thing stands out dou. RX bots are trash in PC2.
Both games have their plus and minus points. DiRT4 is much more arcade. Could better compare it now with DiRT Rally 2.0. In DR2.0 the RX cars are a bit overpowered and to much grip. You could actually say that they overpowered the cars to compensate the to much grip. Especially the sideways grip is to much. Also the tracks in DR2.0 are a bit more accesible made. So although the tracks are actual, they opened up certain corners to make it easier. What Codemasters is very good in, is the handling with a gamepad. That makes the car feel more natural than real. If you want more realistic "dry" grips, you should actually race in the wet conditions in DR2. PC2 is maybe a bit more correct on the physics side with the amount of grip and power of the cars. Sometimes people are mistaken that when a game is difficult, it is automatically also more sim. Now that is just very untrue. A simple example, for me arcade games like NFS are difficult to me, as it completly unnatural how a car behaves, my mind is used to the real deal. PC2 also tends to be difficult, but that is just a game issue, even on a pad driving normally with 50-100 kph is already challenging, but driving your own car with 50kph on the road you have not this issues. Also a point i want to make is, is that PC2 have for example the Loheac track completly incorrect. The general lay-out is good, but the track not actually has gravel, but kinda dusted raw asphalt. So again, both games have their plus and minus. In my opinion DR2 is the RX game to go with. A ton of tracks and cars, including a big package of RX DLC. its easier to pick up and play and the sounds are so much better. If PC2 would have better game pad handling, I would have played that game a lot more as well as the physics are well and also some unique RX tracks are in it.
PC2 more realistic ? just go watch a real RX footage and notice how none of the drivers slows down this much to take a corner - like the cars in PC2 cannot be put sideways or something. (actually, somewhere in the comments it is confirmed,PC2 cars cannot handle full throttle+full breaking) real rally cars when driven right are thrown into corners and not 'nursed' into them wich works in D4 but i haven't seen that here in PC2 :/
PC2 camera is too shaky for rally. Another fail of PC2 is AI is just way too safe for rallycross. About graphics, technically PC2 has better graphics but what I prefer dirt 4 because I always liked the way of graphics in codemaster rally games.(Although dirt 4 has even worse graphics than dirt 3 due to very low-res textures, old-gen lighting and non-hanmade stages, it's more noticable on rally, rallycross looks fine) Sounds are more enjoyable on Dirt for me but I literally no idea about which one is more realistic. Physics on Dirt 4 is arguable worse compared to the Dirt Rally (What I prefer is d.r) it's still better than PC2's rally physics I think. (Although I never tried a racing car (rally or non-rally) on real life, I feel confident about my thoughts. Btw, Dirt 4 sucks!! (It has the most boring stages with no exception! (And sorry for my bad English)
Lol you can't really count on people's endorsements...especially from famous people. I mean you do know they get paid to even be associated with the product right? :P
Bad driving on PC2 made it look bad. Dirt 4 looks like Mario kart compared to PC2. You should practice on PC2 more. You turned in way too late on many occasions.
I'm done with the Dirt series until they put as much effort into Rally-cross as the do the boring as fuck rally. In Dirt 4 rally basically has unlimited tracks while rally-cross gets a pathetic 5 tracks? Are there any great rally-cross games that don't put all their effort in into boring rally.

Dirt 4 for pure rally, PC2 has the best sounding game IMO but Forza 7 takes the cake for pure racing this year. Just one mans opnion mind you.
DiRT 4
For me Pcars 2 is better with graphics and nothing else, DiRT 4 is a rally game so the physics are way better and the cars feel lighter
Id say personally project cars 2 is ALOT more realistic in how it drives but dirt 4 in a lot easier to drive
Pc2 is beautiful but Dirt 4 is really smooth and i have a great drift feeling !!
I think Dirt 4 did better in rally, the physics and slide felt more pleasant to drive. PC2 feels stocky handling is not like a rally car.
i never played Dirt 4 judging by the gameplay it look bit arcade since drifting is so much harder Project Cars 2
PC2 looks and sounds better. I haven't played PC2 anyway but your driving is sick.
In Dirt 4 my driving is good but in PC2 it's actually very bad in this video because the rallycross handling in that game is very bad with gamepad.
PCars 2 can show codemasters how to get more realistic and guttural sounds
When you have actually been to one of the FIA world rx championships, you can easily tell that dirt wins this
Tobbsnobb höljes?
TBH I find dirt more fun burn project cars has better physics and sounds
The sounds on project cars for ken block Ford fiesta is terrible. Dirt 4 is the ultimate rally game hands down
6:38 ♥
Dirt 4 has a softer sound than Pc2. The Pc2 graphic are better, gameplay i think same. Thats my opinion, what about the AI? Reply below
Your driving in Pcars 2 doesn't show what you can do in the RX cars. Painful to watch.
here watch mine !

dirt 4 is more like arcade if not in simulation mode, thats y ppl think dirt 4 is better
so the point is still the ppl loves the non simulator mode and said pc2 sucks
Dino Burns I always play in sim mode and it is better than pcars
Got both of them, PC2 destroys dirt 4's WRX it's not even close
DiRT4 FOREVER
jesus, Project Cars 2 looks so sad next to Dirt 4.
True, even I can feel the SPEED on Dirt4, in PCars2 it feels like you are driving at 50 km/h, lmao
PC2 is a simulation, therefore reality looks sad next to Dirt 4
Heppi Blackworld well said
lol PCars sucks in rallycross, DiRT4 is way more realistic in rallycross
Marco Martins spotted the fanboy, pc2 is so much better than that shit you call dirt 4 xD
Track name ? For project cars
It's the same tracks for both games, lol. That's the point. And the names are given on the intro screens and in the description.
Project Cars tried it, but it's not even close to Dirt 4
João Guilherme Marcolin It's the difference between arcade and simulator
Project cars 2 wins for me
PC2 more realistic ? just go watch a real RX footage and notice how none of the drivers slows down this much to take a corner - like the cars in PC2 cannot be put sideways or something.
You can't really compare the two games. In project cars 2, the player is a noob and in Dirt 4 he has more experience.
Play Dirt 4 on simulation for a better comparison
Dirt 4 better graphics, better physics and better audio
Are you sure it has better physics? lol
good joke
It's true, Petter Solberg son Oliver loves it and the drivers did indeed give feedback.
Lol you can't really count on people's endorsements...especially from famous people. I mean you do know they get paid to even be associated with the product right? :P
Lmao
Why the hell are you playing in automatic with the driving line? Play like a man!
Dirt 4 > Project CARS 2
but there's more than rally in project cars 2
Crusard Modding well offcourse pcars is not all about rally dirt is
Crusard Modding for arcade racers, maybe...
Nice bait.
PC2 looks, sounds and drives better than casual pleb dirt.
Actually, there is no rally in pcars.:-P
Rallycross is a completely different discipline than rally.
no entiendo como pueden decir que un juego es mas realista que otro en aceleración o curvas sin nunca han han pilotado un coche de rally XD
Dirt 4 👍
Bad driving on PC2 made it look bad. Dirt 4 looks like Mario kart compared to PC2. You should practice on PC2 more. You turned in way too late on many occasions.
Dirt 4 looks better but that you can go 0-100 in 1 second after the start is bullshit
PJC2 RALLYX IS SOOOOOO UN REALISTIC. IRACING HAS THE BEST RALLY X IVE FOUND.
PC2 should NOT be played at all in 3rd person, this is the wrong way to showcase...
Depends if you like sim or arcade. I think it's clear everyone knows which one is which.
picture graphique game ok project 2 améliored or not game is play vs p2 vs dirt 4 very simu
DIRT 4 IS THE BEST!
KHAUSO PC2 feels much like grid 2 with exaggerated effects
D4 is intense on fearless nonetheless
dirt 4 win!
NiGhtWoLf-X for a casual, yes
Domenico alto forte
And what's with this clown "push, push, push!". The damn driver is not in labor!
In gameplay dirt 4 looks better in the graphics pcars2 better
Dirt4 is the best
PC2 just sounds sooo much better
Trevor clean your ears out bro
At least it sounds realistic
The sound in pc2 is like someone rattling with a toolbox. Annoying...can't imagine playing that.
mercedes challenge in project cars 2 is horrible, the car slides 2 much even when u are at low rpm
even dirt rally has better rallycross.. pc should have stayed with tarmac racing only.
Dirt 4.. best
Dirt 4 sounds better too
I'm done with the Dirt series until they put as much effort into Rally-cross as the do the boring as fuck rally. In Dirt 4 rally basically has unlimited tracks while rally-cross gets a pathetic 5 tracks? Are there any great rally-cross games that don't put all their effort in into boring rally.
