I was 18 in 1989 & remember looking at a yearbook from 1976. I thought they all looked ridiculous. I think we ended up beating them out for worst fashion & hair. Scary to think we thought we looked good.
Does anyone notice how uncomfortable these kids are knowing there’s a camera there videoing them? A far cry from the teenagers of the last 10yrs or so who’ve grown up with the Snapchat, tiktok, Instagram era who the majority of them love nothing better than appearing on camera. I wish I had the words to express what I really want to say but the upshot is our own privacy boundaries have suffered greatly with the advent of smartphones & where does it end?
Yep, we didn’t want to come across as vain or stuck-up. We’d never hear the end of it from our friends. Being conceited wasn’t cool. The world would haven’t ended for any dude caught taking a Polaroid of himself.
I bought beer at 16 back then, and no one asked for my ID. I could walk in any club back then no problem. I looked 30. I’m 51 now, and people still think I’m 30. I agree with you. We did look much older than HS kids now on average. I had the mullet style wig.
