It would be most helpful if you could offer some suppliers of either the starters or at least the components. Thanks, and liked the vid.

I had mine fabricated with parts I supplied to match my application. I don't know who currently makes them and the list tends to change, so I didn't figure that info would age well in the video. If you look on facebook for "flat track swap and shop" and "flattrack.com on facebook" you can join those groups and post a question about purchasing a starter, and see what names come up these days. My components are: sheet aluminum, tube aluminum, mild steel bar stock, 2.4L Dodge caravan starter, ODYSSEY PC925 battery. But the starter has to spin the right way and may or may not need to include gear reduction. The parts listed will start a Rotax, if you have a fabricator to build it! Cheers.

Hello dear Flat Track Factory, i have a hige problem. i own an MZ 500 Rotax Country and really want to repair my engine/bike. The problem is there are no videos how to change valves or bearings or where to be carefull or what we have to check. Can you please make some videos how to change parts or talk about common probelms with the engine and how to erase these problems to have a better running and solide engine. I would also watch some videos with tuning too. I have a 504 Rotax and i saw they have sizes till 660 ccm. Is it possible for me to boring out the cylinder and change the piston and so on or do i need to change the ignition time and change valves?
    Thank you very much :)

Thanks for watching. I'll see what I can do to make some videos like that in the future.

I'm not sure who's doing it at the moment. I see one of the guys that was higher profile may not still be in it. Try going to the Facebook group called "flattrack.com on FB" and joining the page. Then you can post your question. I live in a racing mecca, and had a race fab guy copy a buddy's. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck!

Want to say you started using this in 2013. Before that it was def push start “don’t push on the rear fender”

Can you do a framer suspension and chassis tuning video some time? I'm just starting to gather bits to make a modern engine framer and while really exciting and cool, The amount of guys on beautiful framers I've smoked because their bike just wasn't working is concerning. You've mentioned that framers offer increased adjustability over DTX so I'd love to see a video going over the "why and when" of these adjustments in detail. Pretty much everyone I talk to at the track either doesn't know and never adjusts anything, or wont give up the secrets!

I could. But I'm talking with a true suspension/chassis guru about collaborating to make a video with me. It will be way better with his expertise. When we can get together next I'll have it for you. I think it's going to be a good one.

One thing to note on the advantage of this design vs the two-handed: the weight of the battery and the distance of it from the rotating starter shaft creates a counter torque during starting that eases the kick back to the person (or rider) doing the starting. If one thinks about it, the longer this distance is, or the heavier the battery is, the less “kick back” or counter torque will be experienced at the handle. Crazy that even the starters follow the laws of physics! 😆 Thanks again Michael for creating such great content. 👍 I wear your Factory 20 shirt with pride and have gotten several compliments on the graphic.

Great points! Glad to hear the shirt gets worn. Props to Craig Pavlich for the artwork and Drippin Wet for the Factory20 logo.

The weight on a dtx starter system can’t be more than 4lbs total. I can’t believe how light the modern batteries and starters are . Obviously doesn’t pertain to the rotax. But on dtx style engines I think the convenience out weighs the additional stress that a remote starter can pose.

What I'm seeing on the '21 and '22 year model dirt bikes is impressive, for sure.

I am waiting for your first hand account. Nothing speaks like experience. Except, perhaps, blood.

Hi, can you perhaps send me a link where I can order the bolt kit for the rotax engine? Thanks I’m advance!

Would a roller starter be hard to use on a big single?

    • @FlatTrackFactory

I don't think so. They are a pain to transport, and store though. In my opinion.

@@FlatTrackFactory and if you have to shut your bike off in the staging lane you're kinda screwed. I'm going to try and make the smallest and lightest functional starter for next year and just carry it right up to the gate. Have you ever seen Brad Peterson's "street legal" XR750? He rides around with a tiny starter in a backpack!

    • @FlatTrackFactory
      @FlatTrackFactory  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I have not seen that bike. But Kevin Atherton does the same thing with his street XR 750.
