    Oh i have it bought it 4 years ago, still have it here, a lot of sharpening to do but hell, that thing very sharp is scary. Worth it :)

    It's a nice knife for 20 bucks. It took me some time to put a proper edge on it. Factory edge is horrid. Also some of the grinding from side to side is unequal, but for the price I'm liking it a lot.

      But out of the box, it TORE through that paper pretty cleanly.

    "Now that's a knife!" I love the look of the handles! Normally I'm not a huge fan of the choils however it is definitely becoming on this blade. I laughed in your comment when you said you were on a big knife kick because I can totally relate! Almost a year ago to the day I was on one myself, ordering large knives left and right! Anyway nice video buddy keep it up!

      ***** I hear you. That look is certainly not for everyone. To me it reminds me of some of the higher end custom knives like Bark River, Blind Horse, Fiddle Back, ect. It's hard to tell from the video but it looks pretty well done at its much lower price point.

    I want one. I look forward to sharpening when I buy a knife, so no problem. I have heard quite a few have come through very sharp though these are low cost mass produced knives so it's the luck of the draw in terms of sharpness. I like the full tang and the thickness of the blade itself. I'll buy one and take it up to #4000 or #6000 grit if necessary but may not have to. I'm impressed with the sheath and yeah, the manufacturers must have been hearing buyers feedback on the strap. This newer one makes much more sense.

    • @michiganedge4770
      @michiganedge4770  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah the stitching did start to fall apart at the loop. i have owned a few rattlers since this one. the steel and edge retention is nothing to brag about. for the price i like them a lot. if you are going to rely on it daily I would spend a little more money and get a Becker, or Ontario. either way hard to beat a knife this size for $20. thanks for watching

    Im a beginner to knives, and I really like the look of the thing. Is it good? does it break when put under stress? can it take and hold an edge? I think I am going to get it, but I want to know if it is worth the money. Thanks to anyone who replies.

      @michiganedge4770  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Starhawk hey Adam, thanks for stopping by! To be honest with you, I was a little disappointed with the edge my knife took. It is sharp, and good for chopping. But I can't shave the hair on my arms! Lol. Depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for something to use a lot? Or ocassionaly? What's your price range? At 20 dollars, this is a great blade. For me it is more novelty. What are your needs? ( cutter, chopper? Abuse? Throwing? -Kevin

    • @adammcknight9989
      @adammcknight9989 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michigan edge probably more occasionally, maybe some chopping, but not heavy use. if it can chop well, and hold up to some pain, i think it will be good for me. thanks.

    Product: Model # 17 TR65 Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Bowie Knife
    Q for BudK.. or someone that has the tools to verify..
    What KIND (GRADE) STAINLESS STEEL IS USED for the blade of the 17 TR65 Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Bowie Knife ???
    Additionally, how about info on to what HARDNESS the TR65 is HEAT-TREATED to on:
    A: Edge of Blade.
    B: Main body, SPLINE
    C: How far back TANG it's tempered... Confirm if the TR65 is heat treated/ tempered.
    Distributor should be able to access this info.

      WeAreNotAlone69 dude it's $20 who cares. if you are worried about all that stuff just spend the $100 + dollars on a good knife. or $50 + on a Ontario sp

    • @WeAreNotAlone69
      @WeAreNotAlone69 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your insight of the metallurgy and heat-treatment of the TR65. So far as "who cares its $20.". The TR65 is a full tang knife so you don't have to worry about the blade *separating from the tang like happens on the TR88 and others of the Timber product line which have a rat-tail tang, but without a proper heat treat someone could get seriously hurt if the blade breaks.
      Rare event, yep.
      ( *Read just the other day about I think a TR65 that had a crack in the blade near /at tang area, so yes regardless of price it would be nice to know if the TR65 has a proper heat-treat, if it's been heat treated at all.)

    Pretty impressive for the money. What makes it a big no for me is the "Surgical Stainless" aka chines scrap steel, and the really short hollow grind that is not that great for chopping. I guess it is a good show piece, but if I wanted a cheap large knife that can take a beating, Ontario SP10 all the way. It is made in America out of classic 1095 steel, and is only $50 on Amazon.

    • @michiganedge4770
      @michiganedge4770  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, its more of a show piece for me! For the price it is made very nice! Think my next big blade will be the Becker bk9. Thanks for watching !

    • @randomguy3281
      @randomguy3281 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michigan edge The Becker line is great. I was looking at the BK9 when I bought my SP10, for $80 it can not be beat. I only got the SP10 because I was looking for something really heavy.

    • @michiganedge4770
      @michiganedge4770  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @randomguy3281

      Michigan edge Awesome. Just be careful, the knife hobby is addicting. Next thing you know you will be getting ready to buy a Cold Steel Trailmaster ($130) or a ESEE Junglass (like $180).. Not to mention a Swamp Rat Rodent 9 ($240 with no sheath). Customs get even better, a Black Heart Gunner 12 will cost you $500.

    • @danmartin4552
      @danmartin4552 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michigan edge I agree with Random Guy, it is an addicting hobby. I have been in the so called knife community here on TH-cam for over two years, it is growing very fast. My first good quality folding knife (besides some Swiss Army knives) was a Kershaw Skyline, and that was about 4 years ago. Last year I started to move into the $200+ range. I have actually started to make money from this hobby by sharpening for local chefs. I am hopping to start selling custom knives this year.

      First off, your collection of "knives" put together doesn't compete with this knife. Second, your "kitchen knife" in the bottom left of your drawer looks like a keychain, and third, do your research. If you want to see some really nice knives and more, go to budk.com. Maybe this website will help out your sad collection of plastic i mean "steel knives.

  • @jamesaritchie2
    @jamesaritchie2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wish they would stop selling this dangerous piece of crap. For those who don't know, there is no such thing as "surgical" steel. It's a marketing term they use to label knives made out of cheap scrap steel that isn't even tempered. No is there any real brass in the knife. All the "brass" parts are just brass plated scrap steel. This knife will break easily, and when it breaks it can send little pieces of steel flying. Don't get your eyes in the way. This knife would be overpriced at five dollars. It's a toy, made for those who have no clue, and should never be actually used. How on earth could anyone think this piece of crap was worth buying?

    • @adamboucher763
      @adamboucher763 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do more research before you start hating on something. For this reason, I chose to buy it. Watched multiple videos of unboxings and it in use. Cuts very well and steel is of good quality.

    • @josephschmoberg6778

      For $ paid it is a pretty good throw in your trunk knife ... the brass IS brass not plaited steel (it is obvious you don't have one) If you look at all the reviews, you will see how well this knife holds up and does not break ! I just bought one and what the reviewers say is very true. this thing is a beast. i ran a magnet over it and the only area non magnetized are the brass parts. It is not real sharp out of the box, but you would expect that from a $20 knife .... what you don't expect is the quality of the knife, yes, i will be buying another today to go in my other car trunk in case I might need a Knife/Hatchet/Pry-Bar tool .... it is that big !
      Yep, the steel is a mystery, but from ALL reviews it holds up pretty well. Even though I just got it and have not used it, this thing is built like a tank ! There are a few cheapo Bowie's that get good reviews - this one and the Walmart Mossy Oak Wood Bowie (yes, I have that too), These go right along my Jessica-X, Condor Parang;s and the rest of my much higher priced tools.
      For the $ the too cheapo Bowie's are pretty darn good.
