- Welcome to TexasHillbilly. In this video we stumbled across and early 80s Toyota Corolla wagon that looked abandoned on a side street. I knocked on the door and made a deal to take it home. We hope you enjoyed this rescue and the outcome.

My brother has a 1982 2 door red color in Christchurch. He parked it up then decided to drive it to work for a week which he was stopped often by people offering insane money. The highest was 30k as guy wanted to lower and rotary engine it. Brother refused and decided to park it up for good as he done 780.000 kilometers on it.

My kind of family outing! Lets go get a car honey!! Okay! I would look into finding a 1983 20R factory carburetor. I'm no expert on Toyota's but I think they came from the factory with a mechanical fuel pump. Having that electrical pump in the engine bay is a bit dangerous. Going with the stock factory carb. would eliminate most if not all vacuum leaks. There is a rubber seal on the oil pump, maybe its failing allowing oil into the combustion chamber? Valve stem seals could be petrified allowing oil into the combustion chamber? Of course replace the timing belt for good insurance. I found the oil pump oil seal and the valve stem seals on Rock Auto. Either way it would be a great gas saver if you keep it or flip it. It is in excellent used condition for a 1983 model! It’s been a fun project. I installed a new mechanical fuel pump today. The carburetor looks to be correct, but was installed sloppily. Also hoping the seafoam treatment helps the rings and valve seals. We’ll share a short update video some time later. Thanks for the support!

More than likely it will be the ring because it seems to run OK but is burning oil. If it has done 300,000 miles, the engine will just be worn. I am surprised it has lasted 300,000 miles. Is it a 1600 or 2 litre? It won't be worth doing the piston rings and sleeves, an engine swap wod be cheaper or sell it. There is a chance it could just be the car! Good video though, you all had a lot of fun and that is the main thing.
A leak down and compression check will see how healthy the engine is, good points.

Those 80s foreign carbureted engines literally had about 50 different vacuum hoses, ported switches, solenoids. You will pull your hair out. See if you can get the factory service manual so you have the diagram.
I wasn't attached to this one. We sold it a few months ago. It's in the hands of a corolla enthusiast in Austin.

If these ain't using oil then replace all with Amsoil then your set for long time reliability

The blue smoke might be a simple as a clogged P.C.V. valve! Now that would be an easy fix. Great episode with family involvement, wife and kids and the puppy!!

If only you could’ve witnessed the arrogance and heard all the claims that turned out to be lies. Anyways I shouldn’t have been so negative and I apologize for that. I’ll try to be better.
