Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another PATREON request with a first time reaction to ENYA and her song "Orinoco Flow" (Sail Away). This song feels more like Sail Away than Orinoco Flow, but it hold everything in tune with sounds and amazing layered vocals by Enya. This 80s song can easy fall slip into the 90s and beyond, so ahead of time with sounds. See my react now!

I’m from America, but I’ve also had a sweet spot for Enya’s music. It’s just masterful and she does most of the writing, music, and production herself. I was never a big U2 fan, so to me Enya is the best artist to come out of Ireland.

I loved your reaction so much Dereck to your first ever Enya song, thank you!!! The world was shook when "Orinoco Flow" was released, Enya was able to turn new age music that was emerging into a smash hit with her overlayed ethereal vocals and Celtic influenced instrumentation, my favourite part of the song is where it hushes with turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, up, adieu and then the drums kick in again for more sail away, sail away, sail away, sooooo good!!!
And while it was the first single off Watermark it was actually the last song to be recorded for the album, it had been shelved on and off and tinkered with for some time prior until they we're able to get it just right and was only selected to be a single after they had recorded it after it was planned to only ever be just an album track! And Watermark is one my favourite albums of the 80s, every song is a stunner!
And often when I go on long trips I listen to Enya on my headphones, her music makes me drift away and takes me to another world!

This was a real different sound to what was around at the time. This was her first single and she has had many many hits but has never played live as she’s said that there hasn’t been enough technology around to get the correct feel and mix for the songs to give them a really forthright sound and beat too ….. it might change and as soon as she does there will be fights to see her live that’s for sure !!! Caribbean Blue, Storms In Africa (my fave track), Anywhere Is, Book Of Days and Only If are some you really should check out too !!

I love Dark Sky Island! The bridge Even in the Shadows feels like the sky breaking and opening in front of you. But I love all of her albums, even And Winter Came; it's a staple for Christmas for me :)

All instruments are played by Enya with a synthesizer (strings, piano) and all vocals are her own voice sometimes (reportedly) recording the same line 80 times!
That layering of vocals in different tones is not just extremely time consuming but also such slow, rich process of building and building.
Her producer Nicky Ryan is the mastermind behind that.
His wife and lyricist Roma Ryan is the poet making Enya’s music become visual dreams through words.
A fantastic trio. I’m a guy huge fan since age 11.
Check Caribbean Blue. My all time favorite.

They did the theme for Robin Hood tv show on BBC, and the theme songs/soundtracks for the movies "Message in a Bottle" (What will I do), "Last of the Mohicans" (I will find you). Hello *Dereck,*
For my French compatriots, a few months ago, I offered a translation of the text of this song on the website *Lyrics Translate,* which is:
    Le flux de l'Orénoque
    Penons l'large, prenons l'large,
    Laissons l'Orénoque (1) sage,
    Nous atteindrons la plage
    Sur les rives de Tripoli,
    Penons l'large, prenons l'large,
    Pour échouer sur ton rivage,
    Laisse-moi atteindre la plage
Bien au delà des mers d'Asie.

    Prenons l'large, prenons l'large, prenons l'large!
    Prenons l'large, prenons l'large, prenons l'large!
    Prenons l'large, prenons l'large, prenons l'large!
    Prenons l'large, prenons l'large, prenons l'large!

    De Bissau à Palau, bien à l'ombre d'Avalon,
De Fidji à Tirée jusqu'aux jolies îles d'Ébène,
Du Pérou à Cebu, sens la puissance de Babylone,
De Bali à Cali après la mer de Corail.

Hissez haut, hissez haut, hissez haut, haut, adieu
Hissez haut, hissez haut, hissez haut, haut, adieu

    Depuis le Nord jusqu'au Sud,
    Des Hébrides jusqu'à Khartoum,
    Profonde mer de nuages
    Berce l'Ile de la Lune,
    Portons-nous sur les vagues
    Jusqu'aux dunes jamais foulées,
    Portons-nous sur les vagues
    Aux lagunes jamais mirées.
Naviguons, naviguons, suivons l'flux de l'Orénoque,
    Naviguons, naviguons,
    Manœuvrons, approchons.
    C'est Rob Dickins (2) à la barre,
On souffle pour dire au revoir
à Ross (3) et toutes ses liaisons
    Naviguons, naviguons.

    Prenons l'large, prenons l'large, prenons l'large

    Prenons l'large, prenons l'large, prenons l'large
    Prenons l'large, prenons l'large, prenons l'large
    Peace, folks. ☮🤗

Great react - she is from a musical family and used to perform with their band Clannad. This songs has over 400 over dubs…you were right about the depth of the vocal. Love China Roses, Memory of Trees, and many others but this is my favorite. Keep’em coming!

Not enough music lovers are familiar with this talented lady. Sometimes I almost feel like humans don't deserve her magical creations, LOL. Her music's *so* good. Been a fan of hers since 1988. Favorite song she made was "Caribbean Blue" ... it's some kind of dreamy waltz that takes you somewhere marvelous for a few minutes. (Note: sometimes I have to listen to just the studio track of a song because the visuals can be distracting from the amazing stuff that my ears are receiving.)

Enya spoke in Gaelic in the beginning of Sinead O'connor's song Never Get Old on her debut album The Lion And The Cobra.
