In a league of her own is right. She plays every instrument on this song and does all of the vocals. She sang the song literally hundreds of times and all of the recordings were layered onto one another to create the unique sound, and it was a technique that she pioneered. I am a rock and roll fan, and my music is mostly the music of the '60s and '70s, but there was was some truly great music in every era and I have to tip my hat to this lady and her amazing talent and vision.

I though the Beatles were one of the first with multi layered recordings on the Sergeant Pepper album , 10CC took it to another level in 1975 for 'I'm not in love' , Enya deserves credit for producing most of this great track herself.

@@andreavoros-marky4203 That is so true , it is incredible what he achieved on his own using basic equipment , Enya was only 'pioneering' by recording hundreds of individual vocals , by the late 1980's multi layering had been around for at least 15 years & tape looping for decades !.

    • @mandylorien314
      @mandylorien314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think you will see from the comments below that the real pioneers were decades ahead of Enya's use. The Beatles used this technique and as has been said, read about 10cc's use in the song "I'm not in love". There are many electronic artists who also use the technique to build a greater sound than they could normally have produced with their limited equipment. But at least you did not use the my overused word on youtube "underrated". Enya and also Clannad produce some wonderful music.

I remember reading somewhere that she didn't want to do concerts because she didn't want to surrounded by a dozen tape players (since she did everything herself).
And for some reason, my mind just pictured her on stage with several water or fog screens showing her playing each of the instruments. It would be a band of her. If you could time some interactions between herselves, that would be even better. 🙂
Lota work on her part, though.

Same for me. I was 12, my mom was in America on her academic exchange. In a letter I wrote that "Orinoco flow" was at that time my favourite song on my personal chart. And she bought me a cassette with this single and brought home to PL. The very first "western" cassette I ever had. Layout was black and white, Enya was dressed elegantly. The songs engraved in my soul, more than just memories.

I'd be happy to hear the songs live though in any format. Even if they were stripped back or she used a choir for some backing. I don't think she has to replicate exactly how they sound in the studio. I'm sure even if it was just Enya and a piano people would flock to these shows. I live in hope that one day it will happen.

I heard it playing in the Fort Wainwright Post Exchange on some nice stereo systems and was blown away by the sound. When I was a kid someone gave my mom a copy of this tape. All it said was Enya Shepard's moon on both sides.
My mom used to play that tape every night to fall asleep to. My little brother and I would take our blankets to her room and lay on the floor and listen to this album and fall asleep to it.
I used to wait for this song to play.
Just wanted to edit and make clear that back then recorded tapes didn't always say the correct stuff on them..this song was from watermark but the tape someone made for my mom had watermark recorded on one side and Shepard's moon on the other side but they only wrote Enya Shepard's moon on both sides
It wasn't till I was an adult that I realized it was two albums on that tape and not one super long album.

My man. We gotta get you into some Clannad. That was the band she sang with back in the 80's with her kin and Maire Brennan. It's some straight up kinda irish an scots feeling pop folk. But it's more pretty much like this. They hit some popular movie soundtracks too, tho they're most known for the soundtrack they did for the TV Series, Robin of Sherwood. They also had one on the end of Last of the Mohicans. If you wanna hit Enya's first big solo effort, get a load of the album, "The Celts" which had some of its tracks used in the Steve Martin movie, "LA Story". But particularly, hit 'Aldebaran (Dedicated to Ridley Scott)' and 'I Want Tomorrow'.

Adore Enya. I could go to sleep listening to her every night. I hope you will do "Amarantine"... it's my favorite of hers. And here's a fascinating fact about this song and artist from Wikipedia: Leporinus enyae is a species of Leporinus fish discovered 2017 in the Orinoco River drainage area. It is named after the Irish singer Enya, whose major music hit "Orinoco Flow" deals with the Orinoco River, among others.

Enya's 'Book Of Days' is one of my favourite songs, which I first heard during an ad in 1993, and I totally fell in love.
'Orinoco flow' is also an incredible piece of music. It captures the flow and the motion of the water so beautifully! You can really get lost in the layers and her angelic vocal

She has no bad songs. I used to sit in a beanbag in my dorm room with the lights off and my eyes closed listening to her albums just to hear everything. "Storms in Africa" is one of my favorites and it's an instrumental. It's so beautiful that I have a video for the song constructed in my head.

Really happy to see you come back to Enya! She's one of my favorites -- her songs are so soothing, but also have some exciting moments with those drum beats! I have 6 of her songs in my perpetual playlist, among them "Book of Days" (from the Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman movie _Far_And_Away_), "Storms in Africa", "Caribbean Blue", "Anywhere Is", and "Only If." I'd recommend all of them!

Hard to overstate how huge this song was in the UK. #1 for 3 weeks and #18 in the full-year chart. I was 5 and loved the 'Sail away, sail away' parts and my parents loved the sweet vocals and everyone just loved it I think, even though 98% of people probably still think Sail Away is the title of the song.

Every time I go to see her I bring my portable JB3 and hook it up with my playlists and that li’l girl BOOGIES! It’s always the FIRST thing she wants to do as soon as I get there.
