what a great personality for the game and quite the player. In 1986 I tried to qualify for the British open at Western Gailes and Sam was sitting at the bar at 8am in the morning nursing a beer and when I returned at 2 after my round he was still sitting in the same spot. I am fairly certain he had not moved and quite sure it was not the same beer he was enjoying at 8am.Funny the things you remember

Sunday at the Belfry, at the 1985 Ryder Cup, best day of my golfing life. Even beats the 'Duel in the sun' at Turnberry. Both first time at the events.. I am soooo blessed.
