My grandson Jacob is 16 or 17 years old. He's very respectful, a good student and does what he's mother ask him to do.
I think Jacob deserves a good bow that he can learn how to prepare himself for honoring also respect for the bow. I honestly believe he would take very good care of it.
I'm a disabled veteran from Vietnam with illness of that war. I don't think I have much time left and I'd really love to lealeave him something to remember his grandfather by.

Have you ever seen"The Backyard Bowyer" Channel? he teaches how to make nearly any kind of bow or crossbow with PVC pipe. , I made a re-curve bow that is about a 40 pound draw with a nice fast flying shot. It's easy only requires a heat source and a short piece of board . I made in in less than an hour.
A heat gun is not available for be , can I use ordinary charcoal?

My very first bow was made using instructions from Nick, the Backyard Bowyer, over 5 years ago. It was the 70 Pound No Heat PVC Longbow that used the bundle of orange fiberglass rods inside for all the action. It was pretty good for what it was but it has outlived its usefulness. I just placed an order for this bow and I cant wait to start shooting it.

I've owned two of these since January. They are perfect low cost recurve bows.
You're the 2nd person I've heard recommend the black hunter bow. I've only been a self-bow shooter and only for the last 4 months. But this looks like something I could try out.

Just ordered one. Thanks for the heads up on a good bow. Edit: Got the bow, shoots great, trying a few arrows. It pulls heavy, ordered a #50 @28in, and it is pulling #56 at my draw of 27in. Easy enough for me to shoot, really enjoying the bow.

You give good advice! I am an old archer and still enjoy watching other archers.
Typical American Indian bow used to kill buffalo was 40-60 lbs. You don't need a massive bow or draw weight to be effective. 25-30 lb is perfect for someone starting so they can develop proper technique. You don't start doing pushups with a 150 lb weighted vest, and you don't need an 80lb bow to start archery either.
I've been shooting the 30# longbow version of the black hunter for three months now. It's a bit small for my draw length, but I've loved shooting with it from the day I got it. The grip too a while to get used to, and it's really noisy, but it's a fun bow.
I have every intention of buying the recurve version... was tempted to just get the limbs, but it's so cheap I may as well get an entire new bow.

Yep, the black hunter is one of the rare good bows you can get for around 100 bucks. Its a simple bow and although it doesn't have all the features a samick sage has, it performs perfectly and looks extremely slick.
I'd even pick this over my blackwolf now that I own it
Thanks for the review. I would buy this bow, if I wasn't just making my first own one, based on your poplar bow video (but mine is made of oak). I was just be able to put on the "real" string (ordered from you) on it first time today... gosh it was scary... thought it will break, but it didn't! So I am relieved now, guess it will be bow at the end and not just scrap wood :)

I started on this bow, at 35#. I still use it when I want to drop back to shooting lighter weights and it still performs. I totally recommend it.

I bought the Longbow version of this and it is amazing! I've been doing archery for over 25 years I've had very nostalgic bows in this is one of my favorites just my opinion you can also buy bamboo limbs for this which is amazing have not yet got any yet but want to. All I'm saying is with your beginner or intermediate or Advanced Expo cannot go wrong for a hundred and something dollars
@Brian Perkins you will definitely get a little more power from a recurve but the Longbow is a reflex deflex so you'll get good power out of it the Longbow is a little smoother to draw but the good thing about the limbs is that they are interchangeable with a riser so you could get a longbow and buy recurve limbs they will fit the Longbow riser and vice versa
He gets so excited about this bow that he gets emotional as seen @1:32 you can see the tear drops on the grip of the bow.

A feel a little called out by that "beginners mistake" XD I totally did that
I personally own 2 black hunter longbow reflex/deflex. They are some sweat shooter, nice and quiet. After 3 years shooting them there is a small flaw that need to mention. Shooting 3 under slowly break the bow. The wood on the riser compress a lot over time and break the tiller. Nice review again ! keep up the good work !

This is my how of choice, been shooting it for 2 years now.
I have both the longbow and Recurve limbs. Both good Recurve limbs are better.
I've tried bows that cost 3x the price i paid for my Black Hunter, and I prefer my Black Hunter.

@@danielreardon6453 Sure, the Recurve limbs simply throw the arrows faster. I have 2 sets of recurve limbs 30lb & 40lb and one set of longbow limbs at 40lb.
My gaps are very similar when comparing the 30lb recurve limbs to the 40lb longbow limbs (obviously the 40lb limbs are faster), I can pull less on the fingers and get nearly the same performance. When comparing both 40lb limbs sets, the recurves always show better performance.
The advantage the longbow limbs have is that they are far quieter, I don't silence my bows because I'm more interested in raw performance, but there is no doubt, all things being equal the longbow limbs are quieter to shoot. I also find that any wild shots I have with the longbow limbs are less crazy than when I mess up with the recurve limbs, so I guess the longbow limbs are a little more forgiving.
Up to 30-40 yards the difference isn't massive, but I find when shooting longer distanced having the extra speed from the recurves really helps with longer shots.
I like both and have two black hunters so I can have both limb styles set up ready to shoot, but if I had to choose only one, personally I'd go for the recurve limbs.
@@tjj4lab Fair enough.... That seems strange how the 30lb and 40lb are similar, would you have any theory on why that might be the case?...... Btw if you want performance of kinetic energy, try shooting heavy arrows.
I've had a Black Hunter with recurve limbs for about 18 months , I would be interested in getting some longbow limbs.
Can you recommend somewhere in the UK who can supply the limbs or is it only available from the USA ?
@@110adventures7 Sorry, can't help with a uk supplier, I buy my black hunter stuff direct from China (where they are all made, even if you buy from USA).
You can pay anywhere between £45-60 for a set of limbs usually, I use four sources, Ebay, & AliExpress and Mandarin Duck. Never had a problem with any of them, although Mandarin Duck is more expensive than the other options.
It's up to you, but personally I always look for Bamboo core limbs, they make the limbs out of bamboo or maple cores but I really like bamboo limbs. I'll pay more for the same limbs if it gets me bamboo over maple.
I think there is one seller in the uk selling black hunters, but I think they only sell complete bows not just limbs and they call them something else (sorry can't remember who sells them or what they call them)
I completely agree with this review, our club bought some of these bows in the 25-40# range (recurve and hybrid versions) and they are absolutely awesome. *However, here's the thing* : They have some problems in the higher poundage range. I bought one because I wanted a cheaper bow to train up to higher poundages. So I ordered mine at 55# when I could comfortably shoot 50#. Measuring it, it was about 57#, which was a little uncomfortable at first, but I got used to it reasonable quickly. But then the upper limb developed a fault and I had to order a replacement. To the credit of the seller, they replaced these limbs free of charge. But on arrival, they actually weighed in at close to 65#! That is 10# more than it should be, and it is really, really uncomfortable to shoot for me (as with what Kramer said: I can draw it back, but it's not fun). This may have been just bad luck for me, but I've heard from other people as well that the actual draw weight can substantially diverge from what is advertised, especially in the higher poundage range. Just something to be aware of. Also, the bow is quite loud at that poundage even at a quite high brace height (8'').
Is the 45# be okay?
@@GraniteGorilla Funny story actually: I have a 45# one and i've been using it for years without problems. However, that was also supposed to be a 55# replacement for the one that was 10# over, and now it's 10# under! So, either I've been extremely unlucky, or it's basically just a gamble with these limbs if they are 10# over or under the advertised strength.

This is so cool. Everyone talks out there bows over 1k. And not all of us are experience or pro target archers. Ppl start buy mega expensive bows and after few months... you don't use/enjoy archery. i've bought two of 'em. .contact twig archery to get the reverse limb model called the spitfire. .the longbow black hunter @ 60# is easier to draw than the recurve black hunter @ 60# and, the limb fit system on all of these is perfect and simple. .bamboo cores, fast f.p.s., light, compact, extremely efficient since the risers are only 15" but the limbs are long. .plus plus all three of these, order from u.s. suppliers tho', from china it'll take months. .risers are c.n.c. diamondwood and, perfection!!
I bought one of these for my first bow (except for the one that came with my house). Mine is the SinoArt Black Hunter with 60# limbs. I recently picked up some 40# limbs for it and use it a lot more now. I too would recommend it, it's an awesome bow. I read on a forum that the Black Hunter is actually made by Junxing and is the F171 in their lineup. It is then supplied to SinoArt, Mandarin Duck and others for resale under their brand names. There are 2 different limb lengths that I know of, my 60# limbs are shorter than my 40# limbs and provide 58" and 60" respectively (overall length). I wish my 60# limbs were longer to reduce the "stacking".

in the Original it is a Junxing F171 (the Longbow-Version is the Junxing F172)

What arrow specs did you choose
@@stretchnuts4661 600 spine/29.5" for the 40# limbs using carbon arrows. Wooden arrows - 55 lb or so. 350 spine for the 60# limbs but I don't use them anymore.
Great bow! Bought this bow for my daughter in 25lbs. I was surprised how well it's made. Even the Bamboo limb core is tapered to the end. Very enjoyable bow, although draw weight was a little high (27 lbs@28inch). But this is always the problem with this weak bows.

i'am still using my 1972 Indian Archery Bighorn #50 recurve.Bought it when i was a teen,and grew into it lol.I have a Self flat bow similar to the ones you build, LOVE those videos by the way.

What kind of people would you recommend for this bow? And also what targets, what time of year, what time .. Lol, any arrows, this is a regular bow .. It shoots anything that looks like an arrow, if the pull is less than 45 pounds, any arrows will do if the bow is 60 pounds of force, soft arrows can break and stick in your hand ..
I bought one of these and another one called the “Deer Hunter,” which is a 58” version. I really loved it for the price range, but I ended up selling it so I could get a traditional ILF. But even then, I ended saving up for a Bear Takedown.
But this bow is amazing to shoot. Only thing to be aware of is that there is a bamboo core and a maple core version. The bamboo shoots so much better than the maple one.

I have a 56 inch takedown recurve 45 lb draw. Mine came with just the bow, stringer, cheap little arrow rest and basic hardware. It’s a too archery bow that was branded under gonex. I paid 81 bucks. Everything was even on it. It was a basic metal riser, fiber glass/wood core. I think it’s pretty decent. Shoots straight, does what it’s supposed too.

Bought this bow based on your video and enthusiastic review. I’m new to bows since breaking bones in both forearms and wrist due to an accident. Took it out and shot 50 arrows through it and the Black Hunter did better than I expected for me. Like you I love this bow, although, I believe a better string would make it off the chart for the price. Thanks, for the video and I will be looking at the strings you offer.
Ammons, may I suggest to correct your head position when you shoot the bow? Try not to fall asleep and rest your head on the string, but pull it back to your face instead. The idea is to keep your shoulders in a "T" position and the head straight. BTW, I love your comments on the Black Hunter. I teach archery and most of my students bought and love the bow as I do.

@@ericwilliams7374 Yes, from my own experience and that of friends that had other bows, find this one to be the best bow and none of us are beginners. Several new archers are raving about it as well. I'm sure you will be happy with it. I' will be using it to hunt, tho I have a compound bow as well.
@@SymbiosisAndre that's actually really great to hear, I want this bow but I feel like it will be hard to find limbs for it, that's why I'm kind of leaning toward getting an ILF fitted bow so I can find limbs easier, I want my girlfriend to be able to shoot and I want to increase the weight for hunting but lower it for target practice and I'm worried this bow will limit me in finding other limbs
@@hailsithis2246 I don't know ILF fitted bow so I can't comment on it, however, I did order two different draw weight sets and there was no problem. I now have a 40#, 45# and the 50# limbs for the Black Hunter. China doesn't have a patenting law and that allows different manufacturers to produce the same limbs for that bow. Good luck and check it out on Ebay as well.
@@SymbiosisAndre I am just about to buy this bow in a few different draw weights, perhaps 25 and 35. Would you still recommend this bow, or has something else come along and replaced it in its class? Would you recommend the recurve or the longbow? Many reviews claim the longbow version is smoother and more forgiving.
Been watching this chanel for a while and love the content! But honestly really disappointed you didn't address the multiple limb failures with this bow. Literally bought this bow 3 weeks ago and it already broke on me while shooting it.

Mine finally came in from Mandarin Duck. My 45 lbs $150 Black Hunter is...amazing, to say the least. Such a smooth draw and fluid release. I'm still getting used to "free hand" shooting off the riser without a site and this unsureness has got me itching to keep shooting and improving my skill. Love this damn bow.
Glad you did a review on this bow, I've had mine a while now and love it. I take it with me when I go Adventure riding and is the reason I use your strings. One thing you didn't mention in your review is how small it breaks down into. Amazon sells a great carrying case (SAS take down recurve case) that fits the bow with enough space for extra limbs, broad heads, arm guard and 6 breakdown arrows that's not much bigger then a briefcase. You should check it out.

I have one of these 30lb dw. I really like it! It's not as flashy as my other bows but it's just so nice to use. Add the silencers to it and it's difficult to put down. 😊
I have the same bow and have I hunt with it for about a year. Great quality and super nice to shoot.
I have had a very bad experience with the reflex longbow limbs on this bow. They ended up splitting and delaminating around the limb bolt on one limb. This might be a issue with my particular bow, but proceed with cation when buying this bow you might get what you pay for.
Same here. My longbow limb split apart then snapped in half when I drawed back.
What draw weight did you buy? I'm trying to decide between the recurve and the longbow.
These are excellent bows, but sometimes hard to find in left handed.
I haven't managed to find one for the 'correct side' (left handed) yet. :(

I purchased a 50# Black Hunter with bamboo limbs about a year and a half ago. It has been an excellent bow. I had an expensive factory longbow that did not perform as well in my hands.
I purchased this bow from "Twig Archery" in a ready to shoot configuration. Smooth, maneuverable, and consistent. It is now my go to hunting bow.

I loved my bow when I was 10. I was a great shot...I just purchased the bow that you reviewed based upon your review. I am 60 years old now...and my eyes aren't as good...but I can comfortably pull a 40 lb. For entry level, in a backyard where my longest shot will be about 50 feet (until I get some practice)...I need to know what arrow to shoot, and what target to shoot at! Any recommendations? I also will need an arm guard because the string always hits my arm, and a simple designed finger guard to draw and release smoothly. I like your style, I like your videos, and I want to shoot again!
40 lb bow usually requires a 600 spine arrow. To really get the right arrow you have to bareshaft test them to that particular bow. I like American Leather armguards but they sure went up in price. Ew bateman finger tabs are good and not expensive

I've got the 45# black hunter long bow and love it. It's very forgiving to natural arrow variances and groups exceptionally well. Already have the 65# limbs for eventual hunting.

Lol a had same trouble buy some arrow lube dip points in just slide out but before mine arrived a dipped the arrows in to hot candle wax works fine but definitely worth investing in some arrow lube
The Black Hunter is a wonderful bow; I have the recurve version in #40 and a longbow in #35 ; I love them. However, it is worth to point out that several factories are making BHs in China, all same except the finish. I recommend getting BH from Mandarin Duck or Obert; my recurve is Obert from Amazon USA and my longbow from Amazon Mexico was sent from China, I do not how made it; finish is very poor, performance is amazing as the BH design is almost perfect.

First determine if you SHOULD be shooting left handed. Just because you are left handed in day to day things, doesn't mean you'll shoot that way. It's about eye dominance, not handedness.

I personally really love my Samick Sage, which is around the same price point.
I average between 400-500 shots per 4 hour archery session with my 55# limbs, but I also have a set of 30# limbs for days I just want to go easy or introduce friends to the sport. I've had my Sage for about 10 years now, and have probably put around 20K-30K shots through it. It's held up very well, and with my 3" overdraw, I'm pushin' more around 60-ish pounds with the 55# limbs.
Archery is a fantastic sport, and you know what is manly? Archer's shoulders and back. Practice both right and left-handed shooting, and you will have shoulders like mine where your girl can't help herself around you, constantly feeling up those rock-hard muscles. It's funny, because like you, I don't look muscular, but when I draw my bow, suddenly my back and shoulders look Herculean. You also want to start with a light draw (I originally started on 15#) and work your way up, just like if you were to weight lift. Also, if you do weight lift like some of my friends, like them, you might find that archery uses a totally different set of muscles than you're likely routinely working out. I have friends with arms as thick as my legs, and they were struggling to draw my 55# bow, shaky draw, and doing that cringe thing where they aim at the sky to draw back, then level off. If you have to aim at the sky to draw, your bow is way too heavy for you. Your draw should be level, straight back, elbow up-up-up. Yes, chicken-winging is bad when shooting guns, but pretty much required for bows to engage the correct muscle groups. Your arms should never be tired, even after a 4 hour shooting session. Again, if they are, you're doing something wrong.
I’m a pretty strong guy, think I’ll be okay using the 60#? I have insane back muscles and can do one arms pull ups etc

Watched this and ordered a 40lbs @28”. I’ve had it about a week now. I had an accident a few years ago and with this bow, healed broken wrist bones and all, this bow works great for me. It shouts well and let’s me shout well too. Thanks for the video!

Arrows are not based on bows. They are based on draw length and poundage.
I just ordered a 65lb recurve because of your reviews my first bow I can't wait to get it thank you. I think I may go a horsebow next even maybe a longbow limb set for the hunter too. I'm a big guy I can do a big bow as I need it for hunting. Cheers man!

I shot archery 'semi-professionally' (in college) and it's super fascinating to see how much your shooting has improved, and to see how your form has actually gotten better! I was watching one of your archery reviews, and thought to myself: "oof, that form is rough." But watching this video I can see that you've gotten so much more consistent with your follow through and your groupings show just that.

There are some knock off 'Black hunter' which are bad in quality. Try to buy 'Mandarin duck black hunter' from Mandarin duck website.
Actually, it started a bit more expensive. Went down when lancaster got it and rebranded it. I have 2 of these, long bow and recurve limbs.
