I am a 64 year old female who just started lifting two years ago. When I started I could not even do an air squat. I can now squat 60 pounds which I know seems pathetic but I worked really hard to get to this point and a big accomplishment for me. Wish I had started younger but better late than never. Thanks for inspiring me Brian!
I've learned so much from this guy. I've been running his programs for quite a while and they are no BS! They work. Brian speaks from his heart and his honesty makes him credible. Listen to this man and you will exceed your goals. Thanks for everything Brian. Keep putting out amazing content.
Brian is throwing all the hard to swallow pills at us this morning! I love it. I think this is my favorite video you have done. I would listen to a podcast
Hey Brian I got into powerlifting a few months ago thanks to your channel among alan thrall, Omar, etc. Thanks for this and your content. I was originally planning to be a run of the mill average trainer, but now im in school and will be studying to become a strength coach one day once my experience adds up and I get a few competitions under my belt. And it's all thanks to you and other great channels like yours. Keep at it man.
I am shaking in my hands while typing this. I wish I had someone tell me this when I was younger but Im glad I. Hearing it now thank you very much for your channel and your superpower of positivity.
Hey Mama Bear , You are an inspiration! I started lifting for power about 8 years ago ,I'm 60 now. My squat is over 400 and still climbing. I believe weight lifting will change your life in more ways than you can imagine. Physical and mental health, longevity, attractiveness, strength, quality of life are what you are probably already experiencing. Keep going !
100% want a podcast. I’ve already burned through every podcast where you were the guest. Now I’m just listening to all your “podcast soap box tangent” like videos while I wait till I am tired enough to sleep
You are one of the realest and most motivational people on TH-cam. You truly have a way of speaking harsh truths and making you think "you know what? I can't f-cking wait to apply this into my life".
After mixing some of Brian's programs and finding one that seems to suit me, I usually need to take at least 3 small intervals mid-training which are always followed by my gf asking: "are you gonne puke?". Needless to say that ... ... I'm loving it.
Brian, you are so very right! I'm 61, been lifting since I was 13. I know that strength does not happen overnight, that it takes really hard work to be really strong, and that you cannot miss too many workouts if you want to maintain/increase that strength. I am so very blessed and so very grateful that at my age I can still squat, bench, and deadlift with heavy weight, though I do take a bit longer to recover. Thanx so much for your videos. It's nice to be nice.
Got a personalized program from brian, it was a 3 month layout and I have followed it for 1 year now. My deadlift went from 170kg to 200kg squat 110kg to 150kg bench 110kg to 130kg and overhead strict press 70kg to 80kg.. I feel much fitter and stronger than ever. Cheers Brian!
Earlier I was talking to someone about scheduling and said, “then I have to go to the gym,” and they said “well, you don’t HAVE to,” and that made me think. The priority I hold for my training is at the same level as school or any other obligation and I realized not everyone who works out thinks that way. I know that I didn’t build that idea myself, but I subconsciously made it my philosophy. A podcast similar to the talk you had with Dave a while back would be quite enjoyable, I generally dig them because I can throw them on when I’m doing other things.
This is fantastic. Patience--Hard work-- Consistency. The three pillars of success in life. In today's world we want everything to happen instantly and that is not how life works. You have to put the time in and be consistent and have the patience to do this everyday over years. Thank you for this. This was anything but boring
I love it when the truths you share transcend the gym. That is why I tune in big fella. To lift the weights I wanna lift, the head, heart, and soul are just as important as the body. Much love and respect.
Brian, in my opinion, this is has been your best video so far. You are someone I respect and look to as a leader in this industry and I appreciate all you have done for strength sports! Keep pounding that message! #irongame
You inspire me a 16 year old to want world records, to be great, and be dangerous! 2019 New Years resolution? To meet YOU Brian! Thank you for inspiring me since day 1!
Since I found the channel a day hasnt gone by that I haven't referenced a video for inspiration or new ideas. A podcast would be crazy awesome and alot could benefit from it heavily. Funny enough I'm meal prepping right now
Would most definitely listen to a podcast from you as long as you make sure to have Uncle Nic, Coach Joe and Alan Thrall on at least one episode together. Guaranteed to be entertaining and quality content
My experience with giving advice is actually quite simple:don't give advice, people just want to be listened to. the worst vice is advice as they say. i see a lot of people doing wrong stuff but i know from my own point of view... i practiced going to the gym for two years not knowing what am i doing. and now(not that i am not significantly better than before) i learned that i had to do the mistake to learn the lesson. someone coming up and giving it to you can be a great thing but you'll never learn to examine yourself bc you know every detail of yourself, you can examine better as long as you know how. these three things can be useful and carry you for long but it take a lot of running just to stay in place if you know what I mean. its like everything in life. everyone can try it but its not for everyone. thanks for the advice its just that i need it to be on my wall or something just so i can be constantly remined of it.
Excellent. I definitely fall into the neurotic category right now. I had two moves across the country in little over a year (2018), and all of the stress, financial hardship, and logistical nightmares took their toll on me. I lost twenty-some pounds, going from 185lbs @6' and decently strong, to weak and nothing at 160-165lbs... I'm on the path to recovery, as I've reinvented my educational path (mechanical engineering / manufacturing), and am once again in a position to really feed myself, as well as invest into my own gym equipment for the basement. (I had gotten to a point just before leaving the Marines that I was really happy with, and I maintained that for a long time through 2017 to mid 2018). It's a slow process regaining a lot of lost ground, but I do not believe it is an option to not do it. It burns me that I even let myself falter, but I have to recognize that there wasn't an avenue of approach to rectify that issue during the calamity. All of that said, this is what I needed to hear. I have followed you for a long time (Since just before the Thrall Era. I also sent you the Washington State flag that's hanging in your gym), and I've executed your programs since that time, and have always made headway with them. Long winded, I know, but I appreciate you, Brian. I definitely need to remain patient, and treat every workout as another piece to a greater, stronger whole (and stop checking my scale. If I'm getting stronger, but not necessarily gaining weight, that's not necessarily an issue, right?) 2019's CNY's Strongest Competition is coming up in May, but that is a pipe-dream right now. 2020, however, I am determined to compete, and for the first time be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor, in a sport I've been trying to get into for sometime. As for your podcast, that would be great. I would certainly tune in.
Its funny you mention this because just recently realized going to the gym 2x/week was not getting me anywhere and actually ended up making me feel weaker when I got back in the gym. So I recently changed my schedule around to accommodate going 4x/week and have noticed a difference in my pump, mood, and progress
A few... Okay several years ago I decided to complete the reps no matter what. If I needed to rest a few seconds or even a minute I was going to finish that amount of reps in that set. if for some reason I absolutely cannot complete this that I drop the weight and add 2x the reps I couldn't do. I don't know if it has made me stronger physically, but it has helped me in other ways. Good use of the word pontificate!!!
+1 for the podcast, I never really watched your videos till today, and now I can’t believe what I’ve been missing, your mindset and your approach to training and life far exceed anyone else I’ve listened to, keep up the great work
Since hearing that your castle of gains lacks a porcelain throne, it's a ministry of discipline. Everyone is the sh*t, but truth is, everyone sh*ts too. Definitely the best channel I follow. P.S. sick book shelf.
This is some great advice man. I was thinking about my own experience when i was learning sign language...i was spending at least 3 hrs a week just associating with deaf people and other volunteers who signed, let alone the time i spent practicing and going through lessons. All those principals truly do apply to all parts of life. And i too would love to see you start a podcast
Absolutely do a podcast! Podcasts are how I get through my rolling sessions, and would love to hear one from you as I'm torturing myself. You're extremely informative and honestly inspiring. furthermore you're programs are great about to finish one 12 week up and email you for start another one, to get me through the rest of this deployment, exponential strength and conditioning gains.
Hey Brian! Great video as always! So i think a podcast is a great idea, BUT, the main concern is consistency, content, schedule. Do you want to have a freeform podcast where you cover whatever topic your guest brings up? That could be fun, but also means you would want to have a new guest every time in order to keep the topics fresh. (Think Joe Rogan Experience). Lots and lots of work and scheduling to make that happen. Do you want to make an educational podcast? It would be helpful just as your videos are, but it might also get old quickly. For my money, i would love for you to sit down with a guest and go over their life story. Any fitness icon or pro. One thing you share with the greats in any field is mindset. You could sit down with an ice skater one day and talk about their motivations, their backstory, the hours they put in, what they'll do when their body begins to fail, and how their motivation has translated to regular life outside of their sport. You could do this with anyone. Bodybuilder? Sure. Paraolympic contender? Definitely. Members of your own gym? They all seem to meet the prerequisites. A professional chess player even. Just an idea from a big fan of yours. If you use it i get 50% of the profits! ;-)
I think focus is really important. All my downs have happened when I've lost focus of my goals - I stop tracking my bw and lose a couple kgs, I stop tracking my lifts and stop progressing, etc. Life happens and if you are not paying attention, lifting suffers.
This is solid advice throughout the video, so here's some advice in return. Only start a podcast if you can make it a regular thing. I was overjoyed that Brian Shaw started a podcast, but it's stalled three episodes in and hasn't seen a new one in months. Oh and please put it on Spotify?
Hey Brian ~ thanks to your video on property breathing and bracing for heavy lifts, my DL went up for myself AND my son! You are THE MAN!!! Thank you! 😎👍
This was an awesome video. I was noticing some weak points in my lifts and have been consistently trying to fix them and I'll admit, I do get discouraged when I don't see the progress that I expect to see. But, nonetheless, I go back downstairs to my basement gym and grind it out. I'm a SAHM so it's easy for me to be consistent. I love the idea of going over the plan for the workout the day before, that struck me as gold!! Thanks Brian
I take one issue with what you say in this video though Brian. What you say applies also to those people who lift as a hobby and don't have great goals they're striving for. I know, I'm one of them. Started above 35 (am now 39), and only aim to Deadlift double my body weight and that kind of thing. No competing, no getting super duper big or strong, but improving what I can do and feeling good in my body (I feel younger now than I did 5 years ago if that makes sense). And the advice you give in this video applies to me just as well as to a guy who wants to get to the top of the game. Sure, goals are different, maybe intensity of the commitment is slightly different, but the general principles still apply. On my level it's making sure I get in the gym at least three times a week, and it's those tips you give that have allowed me to do so and make my progress, reaping all the expected benefits along the way. Don't downplay the importance of your advice by saying it only matters to the people shooting high, it applies to everybody, all the time.
Pod cast...yup! Your 3 points are solid advice. I specifically like the 1st...Patience. I have been in education for over 25 years and have seen a dramatic decrease in the patience levels of young people. Yes, kids have always been inpatient. It has, however, become more of a problem. Blame the internet, helicopter parenting, video games...whatever the causes may be if you want to succeed in ANYTHING you must be patient. So stop expecting intent results and, as the big guy says "Work Hard".
Very true brother, I often have to remind myself about the patience LOL. The podcast would awesome and I would definitely listen to it. When you do the podcast, you mind sharing the link?
Would love to see a podcast brian. You have unique perspective and experience when it comes to this lifting game, would appreciate more of your insights
Hey man! I would definitely listen to a podcast, especially if it was on iTunes! That being said, your videos are always so top-notch. I don't know what you would put on a podcast that you're not already doing a great job with in your videos, but if you think you've got something to say in that medium, then hell yes I'll listen.
Thank you for the deadlifting Q&A videos, I've heard you explain breathing and bracing so many times... However, it was during your explanation in part II that it really clicked mentally for me. Now I just have a lot of practice to do, thank you!
I do a fair amount of walking, around 8-10 miles a day, and I love a good podcast whilst I do it. Coach Joe's is very good and I'd be really interested to see what you do with the format
Hey Brian, great content. It’s important to teach people the value of hard work regardless as to what they are endeavoring to achieve. I make my son repeat “hard work pays off” several times a day everyday, hoping that by saying this over and over the message will sink in. Sadly our society has morphed into one whereby there is either a sense of entitlement, or the need for a shortcut. No one wants to actually work for anything. It’s good to see you imparting this life lesson to your viewers.
super informative and interesting as usual!! honestly sometimes i wonder why someone would be willing to put in that much effort in a free video ... i mean, there maybe income from youtube, but such great effort than Brian puts in his video is unbelievable
Believe me man, it is next to no money but that’s not why I do it. This entire thing is a record of how I lived my life. When I am dead and gone, the things I felt this strongly about will live on. That’s why I do it man
Brian Alsruhe i really can not be more grateful to you!!!! The effort you put in everything is just too much for a free video or even if there was a pay for it!!! Whole-hearted advice and genuine experience from a strong lifter and just great and honest man!!!respect 🙏please keep up the good work!!Thank you so much!!
Hey Brian, I'm so glad you addressed the key points you made. It's motivating to hear them out loud. Thanks bro! btw, I'm on week 5 of the program you sent me, loving it!
We need this podcast! Would be awesome. PS: one of the things I learned from your style of working out is to set a goal (reps, sets, time etc.) for every single workout, persevere the pain and go after it. I guess it will make me stronger in the long run, but it already improved my mindset. Thank you.
Awesome video, as ever. Again, seems to come at such a good time - I just recently decided to stop hyper analysing & tracking everything to the most minute detail, & just get on with things.
Congrats on your accomplishments!
Rafield corn Thank you!
Nothing pathetic about working hard and getting results, well done!
Craig Hall Thank you!
60 pound at your age? That’s great!
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard! Btw, a podcast would be awesome. Definitely would be interested!
That so awesome, thanks Johnny!
I would love a podcast, too!
I would definitely be interested in a Brian Alsruhe podcast!
Thanks man, I think I am going to try it!
Unless you're a really big fucking name, podcasts get shit views and often die out fast. Best of luck tho!
This would be OK
*Summary*

I've learned so much from this guy.
I've been running his programs for quite a while and they are no BS! They work.
Brian speaks from his heart and his honesty makes him credible.
Listen to this man and you will exceed your goals.
Thanks for everything Brian.
Keep putting out amazing content.
1 vote YES for you doing a podcast. Would you be able to do a video on training strongman without strongman equipment? Barbell alternatives, etc
Thanks man, I think I am going to try it! and I have a video about replicating Strongman Equipment in a commercial gym that might help?
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial sounds great, cant wait
Alan Thrall did a video about that subject, I think.
Brian is throwing all the hard to swallow pills at us this morning!
I love it. I think this is my favorite video you have done.
I would listen to a podcast
Thank you so much Tamm! That means a lot!
Man that is so awesome brother, I am so glad to hear that and I am humbled I could be a small part!
Maybe you forgot the Jeff Cavalliere. Haha
I am shaking in my hands while typing this. I wish I had someone tell me this when I was younger but Im glad I. Hearing it now thank you very much for your channel and your superpower of positivity.
This channel is very underrated.
Thank you so much for this Kevin, I really do appreciate the kind words!
Your most welcome

Thanks gerry!
Rise Woke up at the right time this morning. This is my favorite kind of content. I really enjoyed it. This is as Motivating as it gets and real!
Thank you so much Marc!
After mixing some of Brian's programs and finding one that seems to suit me, I usually need to take at least 3 small intervals mid-training which are always followed by my gf asking:
"are you gonne puke?". Needless to say that ...
... I'm loving it.
"Put your head down and work."... Finally... Real advice on TH-cam. Much Love Dude.

Yes, please! A podcast would be great and super helpful.
1) Patience
2) Hard Work In + Out of the Battlefield
3) Consistency

Papa Brian laying down the truth.
This is why i love this channel. Very much grateful for changing my mindset not only in the gym but also in life.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch them Apo!
I'd love a podcast! As long as it's on Spotify I'd subscribe in a heartbeat.
Thanks Ben, I think I am going to try it!
Every video you do is brilliant
Of course do a podcast man!! Would love it!!
100% for you doing a podcast!

Podcast Is a great idea. I'd sign up right now, and I love mindset videos like these.
Yes man make a podcast!!!!!
That is so awesome man, thank you for this!
Great, great video.
Podcast?
YES.
These truths are too true! Glad there's people like you on TH-cam Brian. You are a breath of fresh air!
Thanks so much Brother!
PREACH BROTHER!
super informative and interesting as usual!!
honestly sometimes i wonder why someone would be willing to put in that much effort in a free video ...
i mean, there maybe income from youtube, but such great effort than Brian puts in his video is unbelievable
I would definitely listen to a podcast!
5:30 - Nothing that trumps hard work !!!!
Would love to have your rants on a podcast!!!
I helped move a sofa up some stairs at work today, and for a moment I genuinely started to wonder what the antagonistic movement for that would be!
Did Brian just tell us to build a wall? Seriously though, great video, great lessons as always!
We need this podcast! Would be awesome.
PS: one of the things I learned from your style of working out is to set a goal (reps, sets, time etc.) for every single workout, persevere the pain and go after it. I guess it will make me stronger in the long run, but it already improved my mindset. Thank you.
I 100% agree Walther, thank you!
Nice One Brian👊👍
Yes please give me a podcast, and that Spanish analogy was Fuego.
That needs to be said and listened to. Great motivator, as always. 👌👍
Yay for the podcast
Thank you for this, I needed the reminder. Also, a podcast would be great!!
Awesome video, as ever. Again, seems to come at such a good time - I just recently decided to stop hyper analysing & tracking everything to the most minute detail, & just get on with things.
Yes podcast.
I would definitely listen to NeverCast
I really like your mindset videos. You're very mentally strong and that's admirable and inspiring. Thanks for sharing Brian.
