      @@what_valerie_makes Ponte is so easy to work with. It doesn't stretch like other types of jersey fabrics. It's great too for colour blocking. :)

    Another great video. I too have ordered fabric online and when it arrived it wasn’t as heavy as I wanted. I used some for a lining on the Stanton hoodie & made a heavyweight turtleneck for my sister. I was happy to put it to good use. FYI twill is a weave and many fibers can be woven that way. Denim is the popular but I’ve been seeing a lot more viscose & rayon twills- very drapey and fluid but look sturdier than a regular viscose or rayon fabric. Good luck with your makes and enjoy the “spirited” coffee- great choice there too! 😂

      Thank you for watching! I just finished a dress with that fabric and will be sharing it soon! We could be twins!! Also, I did see that Whitney has a sew along for those pants and that's kind of why I want to make them because I'm such a visual learner that style arc patterns are sometimes tricky with their lack of instructions.

    For the jumpsuit you should try a medium weight cotton poplin with some amount of stretch if you can find, or, some stretch 9/10 ounce denim.
    Most bottom weight fabrics will be fine.
    Happy sewing

    If I can give a little bit of advice: when I order online I read the description but I especially look for it saying what the fabric could be used for. I order from a website that says it's great to make a skirt, blazer, trousers and that way I know it will have more structure.

    • @what_valerie_makes
      @what_valerie_makes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mood Fabrics has little graphics to tell you what the fabric is good for and it does say that the black jersey would be good for bottoms but for me it seems a little light weight for a jumpsuit, but that's just my preference I guess...this is a great tip though! Thanks for sharing :)

    Hi Valerie. I use a lot of Style Arc patterns. Parker pants are nice but I'd leave off the cuff unless you want to taper the leg. (don't forget to adjust the cuff if you do) I put the cuffs but I'm thinking to remove them because they end up being a bit floppy in ponte. You can easily make them more high waisted by adding to the top of the front and back pieces. Style Arc pants are really great on the fit for most.

    Check out the Urban Pants collection from pattern emporium. Three styles of knit pants, different rise options, great instructions. If your ponte has enough stretch, it could work. My issue with style arc is that you only get a few sizes. If you do go for those, tomkat stitchery is doing a sew along for the ponte pants on yt. Great video!

    • @what_valerie_makes
      @what_valerie_makes  ปีที่แล้ว

    I find it really difficult tell how fabric on line will look and feel. Like you, I usually have something in mind for the fabric and have been disappointed too. I really need to feel and see the colors up close, but shopping on line is so easy and fun. I will continue to shop on line. I just ordered two fabrics from Blackbird, or was it Bluebird, that you mentioned in your first video I'm really looking forward to getting them. Love to hear about new fabric retailers, thanks Valerie!

    Hi Valerie! Sometimes your plans for a specific pattern or fabric just ends up in something completely else.. That's okay! I understand if you want to make the Sirocco jumpsuit but if you really want to make a black jumpsuit using that black jersey maybe the Nasima jumpsuit by Sew over it would be a good choice with that kind of drapey jersey fabric. Very beautiful fabrics!

    Love your choices.Unsolicited advice: maybe start noting the weight (gsm) of the fabrics you have and keep samples so you can have something to reference when considering potential purchases. It is definitely a learning journey and buying online is full of surprises.

    Question, what is a ponte pant? I’ve heard of ponte fabric!? Though that fabric is nice, love the color! The last fabric you showed will definitely be fine for your jumpsuit!! I’ve made several with the same fabric in other colors!

    • @what_valerie_makes
      @what_valerie_makes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gina, great question. I'm talking about any pants pattern that is suited for ponte fabric. I know that some people have made them and really enjoy wearing them so I thought I'd give it a try! Still don't know what pattern I'm going to go with yet...we will see :) Also, I think you are right about the black jersey. Even though it is a little lighter than I was expecting it will probably be fine.

    A suggestion to make your sewing easier. Don't use universal needles. They are neither here nor there needles. Sharps for wovens, of a size suitable for the weight of the fabric, will cause less problems and make a more enjoyable experience. Use stretch or ball point needles for all jersey or knit fabrics. These move the fibres apart and don't cause runs in the fabric that universal needles can. For heavy fabric such as denim, use a heavier needle. There are specific needles for all types of fabrics including leather. Sorry for the lecture but the correct needle really makes a difference

    • @what_valerie_makes
      @what_valerie_makes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a great tip Annette. I for sure use different needles for different fabrics, but I find that for cottons and cotton blends the universal needles work great for me. I have a pretty good stash of ball point needles and heavy duty needles I was just out of universal. Totally agree that they make a difference :)
