    What a great problem to have…I’ve got a VStrom 1000XT and a WR250R to choose from. Your choice is much harder unless you plan on doing a more difficult unpaved route. Your Alaska videos are my favorite motorcycle videos of the hundreds I’ve watched. My future Alaska trip has also been getting pushed. Fortunately the western US provides many great routes that I haven’t done. Thank you for the great videos and information. You’ve helped me tremendously!

      V Track, You're right, I'd have a tough ride on a more difficult off road track on either the V or the AT. I wouldn't even try it. I think there are an endless amount of possible rides here in the US...thankfully! And thank you, that is a great compliment. I can't tell you how much I truly appreciate it. Hopefully we'll be on the road north soon! Thanks for watching.

    Yes! Been waiting for this one. Nice to see you ride it and the in-depth review of the AT. And you are right about the angle. I dropped mine twice when i, due to a ankle injury, had to get off the bike on the right side. Just one touch too much and the bike drops to the ground. My ankle is healed and i never dropped the bike when getting off on the left side. I was wondering which mode you are riding in ? I ride mine in sport mode 3. My experience is, from 1-20 km/h it stays in 1 then goes to 2 till i hit 45 km/h, then 3 till 60 km/h, 4 till 75 km/h and finally 6 when i reach 90 km/h. When going down i let it brake on the engine, i rarely use the manual brakes. Thanks for taking the time Terry. Can't wait to ride it in 4,5 months (if everything goes well ofcourse). That will be the first test as i will ride 6000 miles or so on this bike.

      Thanks Erik. I would have figured you'd have the shifting pattern all figured out! Wonder if the kickstand is an issue with other AT's and not just ours??? The Twin will be waiting for you when you get here. Then a quick turnaround to Tuktoyaktuk shortly after! Thanks for watching...as usual.

  • @kennyb7883
    @kennyb7883 ปีที่แล้ว

    ya do know theres different modes of shifting and you can manually shift it at any time in any mode just by hitting the + or - button.

    • @TilTheRoadEnds
      @TilTheRoadEnds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kenny. Yes I do realize that. I was really curious on this first off road ride to see how the AT handled the shifting on it's own. I really appreciate your input on this though. Any other bits of information you may have would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks so much for watching.

    Good video. Ride in S2 and you will have a whole new bike. Drive mode likes the 2,000 rpm which is irritating at times when off road or in slow road traffic.
    I never had any issue with the bike tilt and I also have a foot extender. Maybe your sag is too high up..

    Hey, I’m keen to watch this video and hear what you have to say…. but I had to stop because I’m finding the volume of the music that cuts in in-between your voice is quite loud compared to your narrative, I had to turn it down, but now your voice is a bit low. May I politely suggest that you could improve/lessen the difference in levels in future videos. Ok… I’ll try to get back to watching.

    • @TilTheRoadEnds
      @TilTheRoadEnds  ปีที่แล้ว

      DECOY, I appreciate the info and understand what you mean. I have three TV's at home and two of them sound fine when I play TH-cam videos, but one of them is insanely loud when I play a TH-cam video. I have to DIVE for the remote to turn it down. When I upload my videos I actually lower the master volume in editing to help compensate for that. But I'm also currently tweaking volume levels with every new video I upload to hopefully eliminate that problem.
      Thanks for sticking with the video and I appreciate you watching.

      @@TilTheRoadEnds it's pretty simple - on the shifter on the right hand side, there's the D button, and keep hitting it and it will cycle through Drive, Sport 1, Sport 2, and Sport 3. Almost everyone likes S2 the most, and the regular Drive mode is universally known to short-shift like crazy. So generally, instead of pushing D once, you push it twice? (i don't have it in front of me...) But the Sport options change shift points (generally), and change the character of how the DCT shifts. Also, i've watched all your videos, and love em. I was excited to see this one! I ride an AT, not far down the road in ABQ, NM....

    I really enjoy your videos and have gotten a lot of useful information from them, I was wondering with do you prefer the v Strom our the AT my youngest brother has a AT and I've thinking about going with a 2018 V Strom with low mile mainly because how good of reviews I've read on them. Looking forward to your next adventure

    • @TilTheRoadEnds
      @TilTheRoadEnds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Daniel, first, Thank you very much for the compliment. I really do appreciate it. I can't say a bad thing about either bike at this point. I've had the 2014 V Strom for nearly 10 years (bought it new) and have had nothing go wrong with it, other than expected maintenance requirements. Chain, sprockets, tires etc. I've only had the 2018 AT for about 3 years now and same results. They both seem to be bullet proof.
      I would say the AT is probably set up a little better for off road, but the V has been everywhere the AT has been with no trouble at all. I do know there have been many design changes with the V since 2014, so I can't speak for any one of them after 2014. I can say mine has been a rock over the years. I'm partial to my V for that very reason. Hope that helps a little bit in your decision. I don't think you'll regret deciding on either bike.
      Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment. Best of luck to you!

      @@TilTheRoadEnds one more question for you you said that you sent your seat off to Astech seats in Indiana (I live in Indiana) was you happy with the way it turn out? it seams like every bike I get I go through about 3 or 4 after market seats before I find one I can live with and that get rather expensive

    • @TilTheRoadEnds
      @TilTheRoadEnds  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daniellivers5538 I did send it to Astech. They did fulfill their promise and did what they said they would do, however, it seemed to help a little but wasn't what I was looking for. I was still getting fatigued. I have to admit, the Seat Concepts seat on the Africa Twin is the most comfortable seat I've ridden on so far. But, I haven't ridden more than about 250 miles at a time so far on that seat, so it really hasn't been put to the full test yet in my mind. But it feels promising.
      I do use an Airhawk seat pad on the V and I can go all day riding on it with no issues.
      Hope this help a little. Thanks Daniel.

    • @daniellivers5538
      @daniellivers5538 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TilTheRoadEnds Thanks for the response I don't think I will be sending my seat to them, it sound like I could probably use airhawk on stock seat and get the same results, most comfortable seats I found has been day-long but they don't work real good on adventure style bikes for me. I guess I will keep researching hopefully I will find a aftermarket that I like on the first try. Looking forward to watching your next video.
