Hi Davie, This pattern is just umbelievable, it has produced a lot of trout and chub for me, it is a safe bet on any water with caddis coming of. Thank you very much Davie for sharing it with me and everyone else :D. I have used deer hair for the wing and put only 4 legs on it for a more delicate footprint. Hi, Dave. Have you tried a Tom Thumb pattern in the UK? We use it to tremendous effect here in British Columbia, Canada. It's a great all around caddis and mayfly imitation.
huh that's a pretty cool twist, I tied a couple the other day from a recipe I found on the net, just a dubbed body sans hackle and just a CDC feather as an under wing, I use 1 feather folded over into 3 thicknesses 'cause I'm a tightwad, seems to float fine in the water butt, so it should do well on the river, no hackle lets the body sit a bit lower in the water possibly giving the impression of an emerger or one that has got stuck in the surface tension... Tight lines!

As a novice tyer and fly angler, I'm wondering how you think is best to store dry flies like caddis patterns so that the hackle does not become crushed? I have a few nice boxes that are ideal for nymphs but I'm not sure how best to store my dry flies. Cheers - keep up the good work! Steve

I know that you meant an excellent color...however I have never seen that color Caddis and the wing color is usually quite similar to the body color; why two substantially different colors on this fly?
Hi Money Change, I used a Kamasan B170 size 12 which is a medium wire hook, any good dry fly hook will do for this fly...A Fulling Mill Short Shank Special has a wide gape and one that I like to use a lot as well... All the very best Davie...

Hi David Martin, What I do is to moisten my fingers then I wipe them dry so that I have a tiny bit of grip when I go to put on the dubbing, also to help this you have to make sure that the dubbing is well mixed..If you are still having problems mix in a finer dubbing like rabbit which will bind the coarser dubbing like seals fur or SLF a 50/50 is a good blend... Davie, I had a LAW vise. Now use a Jvice. Why do you tie with the jaw up at such an extreme angle???
Davie ,you seem to have no trouble putting the dubbing on......when I put the dubbing on the thread it doesnt stay on....how do I remedy that???

you can tie a fly on a larger hook without making the actual fly bigger. Just use the shank, the fish don't mind. All the best, Sean
