  • Is Ibiza's Glory Fading? In this video, I'm here to give you a glimpse of what's currently unfolding in Ibiza. We kick off by exploring the extensive construction underway, particularly in San Antonio, showcasing the changing landscape. Additionally, we'll take a tour of Privilege Ibiza, which has come under the management of Ushuaia and Hi Ibiza, marking a shift in the latest nightclub scene on the island.
Privilege Ibiza is presently undergoing renovations following its acquisition by the same owners as Ushuaia Ibiza and Hi Ibiza. With a significant multi-million-euro refurbishment underway, the club is set for an exciting grand reopening in 2025.

The trouble with Ibiza is simple. It’s now full of people who are more concerned with letting the whole world know they are in Ibiza via their phone rather than actually enjoying and losing themselves for the weekend/week

Everything is changing / has changed.
    Sadly, not for the better.
I hate to be the Debbie Downer here, but our societies have undergone a dramatic downfall.
The monetary system is on its last legs and unfortunately, money does make the world go 'round.
Everything is changing because everything is connected.
This is what happens when you allow bankers, central bankers, corrupt politicians and the investor class to rule the world.

I went to Ibiza in 2007. I was lucky enough to experience a Cream Amnesia closing party. If I remember correctly Paul Van Dyke and Ferry Corsten were headlining it. It was amazing. But even in 2007 I felt like Ibiza was past its prime. The golden era seemed to be more around 1995 to 2003.

    • @straightouttacornwall
      @straightouttacornwall 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

The golden time was the 80's. The place went downhill when the program Ibiza Uncovered came out. It attracted beer drinkers to the island and not the hippies and free parties that made the island magical. Today its a just rip off and full of people who don't know any better.

I was there at that same time and same club night! And I agree, it felt the magic was gone (from what I heard, not my own previous experiences, I’ve had magical experiences other places in the world tho). There was still some good years after that in Ibiza town and the shift to slightly different genres from what I heard.

So earlier on this year when I was out in September I noticed it's lost its magic a little.. I've been going out to the white isle for the past 22 year only missed 2 seasons because of covid.
I've experienced some of the best times of my life from meeting Grace Jones & Ronaldo in pacha 20 year ago to having the opportunity of spinning at Carl Cox night at manumission just 7 year ago.. But I have also experienced the worse from having our villa broken into and having valuable and personal documents stolen to being ripped off aswell however it's never once put me off coming back.❤
What has put me off the island now is the heart has been ripped out it with overrated venues expecting ridiculous admission fees then to be robbed silly at the bar.
I've came from the days in ibiza, when it wasn't like that I've got a good freind who help build the mambo brand with Javier before there was a sunset strip and even back then it was all about the nature and the vibe of the island... Unfortunately nowadays it's all about the VIP and it's leaked all over which in my eyes has stole a bit if not alot of the true ibiza spirit of the island 😢

It is all about supply and demand. There is not enough young people coming through in Europe to sustain such markets. The Birth rate in the Germany, Spain and Italy fell of a cliff 25 years ago and now it is starting to show. The German workforce is now dominated by 60 year olds with no replacement generation.

I had my honeymoon in Ibiza and stayed in a 5star hotel on the outskirts of San Antonio and it was the best holiday I've ever had! I don't remember seeing a single crane but this was back in 2001 and I will always remember sitting in cafe del mar and a couple sat down at our table and we started chatting to them and they looked familiar to me and I thought that they were probably guests where we were staying and loads of beautiful women dressed up as judges with skimpy outfits and began dancing to the music and handing out flyers for a club promoting a new weekly night at Eden called judgement Sunday and I said to the couple that we were thinking of going and I asked them if they were going and they laughed and said that they had to go or else the night will be cancelled!! Being confused I asked them why and they said that they had organised and paid for everything and that's when the man introduced himself and his wife and I felt so stupid that I hadn't recognised them and no wonder they looked familiar as it was only judge Jules and his wife was riding high in the charts with castles in the sky!! We got free VIP tickets and got to stand next to him as he played his set!! it's something I will never forget!! Sorry for going on and on.... just a special story of being in the right place at the right time!!🤪🎶😉🎵😲🤣❤️💪👌👍

My personal opinion doesn't really matter but here it goes. Yes, Ibiza has become way overpriced and it is by design. They are tailoring it towards the rich and famous. No more Joe and Jane Sixpack. That is their goal. Mallorca has very similar things to offer but much bigger and even more developed. Is Ibiza still special? I don't think so. The fun of paying overpriced cocktails at Cafe Del Mar or Cafe Mambo goes away very fast when you contemplate that you can watch the same sunsets with the same music over at Mallorca at any given place that is at a minimum 40% less expensive. The cost of living is just not worth the enjoyment in my unimportant opinion. I do enjoy your vlogs but maybe go and visit Mallorca for a while. Don't go to Magaluf though :D

First and only time I visited Ibiza was in '96.
Stayed in San Antonio during the Euros and I had one of the best holidays.
Know that was nearly 30yrs ago and Ibiza was riding high off the club scene and Ibiza Uncovered but the place was packed and the atmosphere was second to none.
Hardly slept, was a two week bender of dance, music and football.
Seeing it look so quiet and different is bittersweet but like anything, change is never far away.
Thanks for posting this, it brought back so many fantastic memories.

Been to Ibiza 4 times, 1st was 1999 & was lucky enough to be in Cream, Amnesia when Kevin & Perry was being filmed. Last went in 2009 & could see the change to the Las Vegas style of beach/pool clubs & VIP heavy venues with the addition of Ushuaia & places like free entry Bora Bora being phased out. Then Space went & turned into Hi! Now I see in this vid that Privilege is under the same ownership as those clubs, I dread to think what they will do to one of the original Ibiza clubs. Having said that, since the heyday of Manumission, filling Privilege has been a problem for years, so maybe it’s time for a change. Thank god DC-10 is still there & hasn’t given up its underground style & as expensive as Pacha is, it’s still got that charm & roof terrace. Maybe I’m out of touch & there are still places to go, but there will never be another Space terrace. Having said all that, I’m desperate to go back, even now I’m in my mid 40s.

Great vlog. I went to San Antonio with my work mate for the one and only time in 1993. It was booked on a whim in a travel agent (remember them?) with a redundancy cheque in my hand. Flights only, we stayed in a motel for £2 a night (£1 each) just off West End strip. One sink in our room and shared shower with rest of the motel and we used the party pool by day in the hotel next to us. It was all meant to happen that way and I've cherished the memory ever since. The clubs , the music, the spirituality and the people made it the most incredible, impulsive week of my life and I've never been back for that very reason.

Coming in January, June and September in 2024. Have only missed one year since 2000 and that was 2020 for obvious reasons. I still think, although prices have gone up (haven’t they everywhere?) that Ibiza is as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. Personally, we don’t go to bars or restaurants that charge silly prices. For instance, we paid €17 in a tapas bar in Santa Eulalia in September for six beers, and a large sangria with three rounds of tapas thrown in. It was packed with locals. Our sort of place.

There's no new underground scene, club or DJ coming through anywhere in Europe or the UK that could set the Island aflame once more; could be a post Covid effect. Before the virus of unspecified origin, I'd argue that from the mid 90s to just before the pandemic, we've had an incredible era of dance music, But many of the party people have since gone to places like Dubai. Plus...and I hate to say this. we get older.

With the focus on “cleaning up” parts of the island and San Antonio in particular, you’d have thought it would encourage/promote family tourism. But the new and refurbished hotels, establishments and prices feel even less catered to families. They should really focus on making the bay a family friendly resort, otherwise they’ll lose that clientele completely.

It is an expensive place and as long as it doesn’t go to far and stays manageable for the average person then that’s fine but if it goes the other way any prices people out then it will lose the hedonistic party life that is Ibiza full stop. Is it worth visiting if you're into soul, jazz funk with a bit of bruk and West London thrown in? Any clubs there play music other than what you get in the enormous clubs? And do you like living there or is it just like a party scene all the time? Thanks in advance and good job on the video.

All this 5 star rubbish, with Lio's and the designer stores... seriously. That's not Ibiza. Some people are making lots of money approving all of that building work! Seems like it's a strategic play to keep out what some people may perceive as riff raff? It's horrible as it'll end up only affordable by the super wealthy. Where's the fun in that. Ibiza to me is always about the mix of amazing people. Now it'll just be one dimensional. Sad times!

Keep the memories mate as it's not the same now.
The clubs are still good but the culture has changed. Dance has now become swaying gently from side to side holding your phone in the air and filming the DJ so you can brag to your friends on social media that you're in Ibiza.
I feel sorry for the youth of today who will never know what it's like to get off your face for 48 hours, lose yourself and have a mad one, they just can't because someone would film them and upload it to the Internet. There's a price to be paid for living life through a lense.
It's still a very special place but it's not Ibiza of the 90s anymore.

Our first holiday was in Cala Llonga - can't remember the name of the hotel. We always had a wonderful 2 weeks there every summer. I have great memories of Il Divino, before the area became too expensive for most. Seeing all the construction is good but only if the places are not too exclusive, which seems to be the trend. I was over there last month and was horrified to find many of my old haunts replaced by venues out of my comfort range.
I used to visit 3 times a year, pre my health problems. This year was my first for three years but I'm hoping for 2 or 3 visits next year. If I can still afford it.

@@jamiewilliams685 If that was happening, it wouldn't be good but the majority of the construction is in already urbanised locations, not on greenbelt. Replacing one hotel or club with another is not urbanisation.
However, it is an issue if everything being built is exclusive and expensive because of errors made by the Spanish government's review of the star rating system and the trend towards attracting top end clients.

Great vlog Dwayne, can you give any tips on solo travelling for a non driver, I am going in April (been going to Ibiza for 40 years) and staying around Port de Torrent fod a restful week. I hate the way the beaches have changed with beach clubs encroaching for the ‘beautiful people’ and the ordinary hard working all year round people who want to relax, sunbathe and appreciate their one holiday of the year on this beautiful island are being forced away due to overpricing and now it seems over populating with holiday makers. The road to Port de Torrent was barren with places being closed since Covid when we went last year but more and more apartments and hotels are being built so surely putting a strain on the restaurants and bars left?

I came 3 consecutive years 05,06,07 (absolutely loved it) and came again recently in June 23 (You may remember me). Yes it is getting more expensive, but thats kind of everywhere. I was disappointed with the "super clubs". Now with the DJ being the focal point I feel the energy of the clubs have changed e.g. Pacha 1/2 the dance floor is taken up by the DJ booth/entourage. Not to mention packing you in like sardines making it feel more like a mosh pit at a Metallica concert. However for me the day/beach clubs were the best. We went to the ones you mentioned in your guide book and they were the highlights. We also treated ourselves to fine dining at La Gaia. Not something I would usually do, but hey when in Rome! ;) When I come again I might go to 1 big club and hit you up for table/tix, then stick to beach bars! Great stuff btw.

In Santa Eulalia it's the same thing - always quite a working class town with some tourism, but there's a ton of construction of expensive apartment blocks starting at €350k which is totally out of reach for residents, so it's obvious who they're targeting - the people who spend a few weeks a year here and then price everyone else out.

Ibiza will in time want to dedicate it's tourism to just rich people looking for a quiet holiday or to live. Once the Maldives goes underwater someday Ibiza is a next best thing almost for those exlusive resorts. The club scene won't last forever because of the problems with drugs etc it brings. Ibiza rightly so isn't a fan of the black market over there.

I like the randomness of the vlogs like this tbh - pricing wise they're capitalising on the islands popularity but soon everyone bar the rich will be priced out - who wants to hang around with the same people all the time?? You need variety to keep it interesting otherwise it just becomes a group of the same faces. Plus it should stay open year round - I'd spend winter in Ibiza hands down given the option but because of the cost I go to southern Spain instead where you still got the temps and the sun - but it's not the island 🏝️
