    • @MikeBrowne
      @MikeBrowne  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John. What goes on in the photographers mind is 90% more important than the kit they use in my opinion. How come my step-son Dominic was taking wondeful pics when he was only 8 years old and didn't own or had used a camera other than borrowing his mum's phone when he saw something that interested him? How did the old time masters take such inspiring images with the most basic of cameras? It's because of their thinking... MIKE

    I had an uncle who was a carpenter, but sadly drank too much which killed him in the end. He and his third wife spent every Christmas on Lanzarote for many years - something which I could never understand. Now seing the grey-black soil I understand it even less. What a dismal place!
    I love to see how you work with the light, though, trying to anticipate it and positioning yourself accordingly. But I don't think I'd like to visit the island myself. I'm sure your technique will apply very well to Danish weather too, although volcanos are rather few in this country (I'm glad to say).
    I just read that Lanzarote is actually a mispronunciation of Lancelot. Not the one from the British legend, but Lancelotto Malocello from Genova.

    Some favorite shots I've taken are backlit. Scurrying around an outcrop away from the nest of tripod legs, looking for micro landscapes. An ultrawide lens lives on my primary camera because that's my go-to for automotive photography and I tend to think the same way for landscapes. Up close on the foreground and crazy disproportionate backgrounds with gnarly light blasting through.

    happy new year mate.. done with my training so im back to photos. i have been thinking and was wondering if i should buy 6D Mark II and just one good lens with it. i dont remember who made a video talking about taking photos with just one lens to get to know the camera, the lens and it should help with you photos. since you are more comfortable and you start looking for different things when taking photos or something in that way... think it was you.

    Hi Mike, I follow your tuts for years and you have a big part of my successful results. Many thanks.
    In september I stayed for 11 days in Lanzarote. I know nearly all the locations you visited in your videos. Just one question: Do you know the spot where the camels pass the lava field on their way back home to Uga? In foreground the lava texture, behind the camels in one row, in background the volcanos of the national park. I know, it's not the best time cause they leaving "los camelos" round about 2pm. I guess the walk needs more than 1 h. I met them on my last day in Uga after 3pm.
    (Sorry, english ist not may first language) Best regards from Germany. Christoph

    Part of the beauty in shots like these or Vietnam is that we're not used to those scenes. So they seem stunning to us. I wonder if someone from this island were to be in the middle of the Turnpike near Newark, would their photos just as stunning?

    • @tectorama

      There is a lot of stunning countryside and coastal regions in the UK.

    • @MikeBrowne
      @MikeBrowne  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly JC. I think it's important to go see things that are different from the norm because it inspires us. A 121 client once showed me some of their pics they thought of as dull and boring, said where they lived had nothing worth shooting. But I loved them and wanted to go shoot there because it was completely different to my locality. So yes, I expect a photographer from Lanza would get all inspired in the middle of the Turnpike near Newark and shoot some interesting images... MIKE

      Hi @LibC Sunshade is like putting your hand over your eyes when facing the sun, it protects agains lens flare and damage (UV filters just degrade image quality so don't use one). They are scalloped shape so they don't vignette at different focal lengths... Hope that helped... MIKE

      Thanks Ken. This was back in March a few days after I lost my XT-1 by leaving it on the roof of the mini bus. My buddy Dave kindly lent me his Olympus. I've replaced the Fuji now... MIKE

    did you ever considered to open a work shop to Gran Canaria, the neighbour island?

    • @MikeBrowne
      @MikeBrowne  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have daniel, and other places. Problem is always finding a few weeks to go check the place out so i know locations, best time of day for the light, which work best in different weather conditions, places to do feedback and lightroom sessions etc. Can't be standing around on a workshop with paying clients and not know what to do. However I'm considering La Palma as possible location... MIKE :-)

      Hi Phil. There are 3 places left for Lanzarote next March if you fancy shooting this location on a workshop with me... I've got an XT-2. My buddy Dave kindly lent me his Olympus for a couple of days... MIKE

    Love to see you with a Sony A6300 show some pointers with it. I personally have the 6300 with a 50mm and a really sharp sigma 16mm. Would love to see you pull some old school magic with that setup 💫

      Thanks Kenny C. I don't do camera tips / comparison vids because i'm not interested in the tech or kit and hate trying different cameras. It was bad enough using my buddy dave's Olympus which he kindly lent me after i lost the Fuji. The man has the patience of a sait putting up with me calling him every 10 mins asking how to work it. A friend of mine has an A6300 and it's a great camera (as all cameras are these days) buy any review i did would end up with a lot of swearing and fumbling. maybe I should do it - might make folks laugh... MIKE :-)

    Good environment to get a tripod and shoot some HDR. Surprises me that you didn't

    • @MikeBrowne
      @MikeBrowne  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Merlin. All the sunset shots are HDR merges from shots bracketed by 1.5 stops. Didin't use the tripod, just hand held in burst, which on a mirrorless is so fast the camera doesn't move enough to be a problem. ... MIKE

    What about foreground and changing the normal perspective? Looks a little like lazy-people-photography. Sorry. Why did you decide against it? I think there must a good reason...

      Hi @@MikeBrowne
      I asked why you decided against using foreground and another perspective than the normal perspective. I see this at Thomas Heaton very often, too. Is this part of a documentary style or something? Why are you renouncing to depth and defamiliarization?
      Sorry if my english is not that good. I'm not from England...

      Hey no worries Ed... I think you're over-complicating things. I just chose some angles and compositions I liked and shot them as the light changed. No other reason... MIKE :-)
