I really enjoyed this game. I'd only want three things if there was a sequel: 1. A light and heavy attack in the air 2. Dynasty Warriors style combo system where doing a heavy attack after certain amounts of light attacks makes them perform a unique heavy attack 3. PVP mode that is basically like Power Stone from Capcom where you beat each other up in a small arena
I recently did a video covering this game myself, I bought it on release and enjoyed every bit of it. The developers said that they wanted this game to be an entry point for newcomers since the series went dormant for years. I think it accomplish it, even though the original games had a ton more depth I really found myself enjoying this one a lot more. I love the art style and also the gameplay has a simplistic Arcade like feel to it. The game sold really well so I believe they will step things up a bit more in a potential follow up.
What. A. Review. Very comprehensive, which reflects the time and dedication you put into playing this game. Thank you for the details. Very respectable work, sir.
Especially of you dont start doing house keeping on them immediately after they become available like I did. But ya it would have been nice to have the option to break down all of a certain type or upgrade.
@@jetssimeone4086 You can actually delete 10 at once. But there should've been a mass deletion option for ISO-8's that you haven't equipped any of the playable roster with.
Dude! I would love a remake of X-Men Legends. I know the licensing rights are all tied up right now. But Activision is just sitting on that IP for no good reason. Buy back the licensing rights for the X-Men, re-release those two games and announce a third. It'll go over like gangbusters!
Everyday is Midnight it will be awesome plus if they want they should also remake and re-release of the marvel ultimate alliance 1 and 2 I’m pretty sure Nintendo Switch will be the best game console of the decade
They’d be more likely to just make a new x-men or fantastic four game. The comics are in a different place so they would want to use less specific versions if the x-men or 90s x-men as they did here
I'm totally confused.... Remember when activision made that spiderman game on ps1? That was a fvckin classic!! Then x-men legends 2??? Classic wdf!! Activision stop playing around your loins are littered with unlimited potential goku like game developing prowess!!!! WHY ARE YOU TEASING US WITH MEDIOCRITY!
I feel like I played this game more than I was expecting to. I did like the RPG focus of the older games and I do recognize all its flaws and limitations, I think the combat needed a little more depth and less focus on stagger and synergies being so dominant, I think the leveling is a little bit of a conflict with drop in/out coop, like if someone arrives whos favorite character I have never touched, they can't really play with my maxed out favorite characters in a level appropriate stage. I think the coop camera needed some attention in certain stages. I think Iso management was a little clunky, but I actually did come to like them as items once the more powerful and impactful stats started dropping. But I just put in so many hours because it was the right game at the right time for me. I think it also helped because it felt like a return to games for the X-men, which seemed to have been downplayed for a time by previous marvel decision makers. But to be honest, the new Avengers game really highlighted why. Because that game is kind of souless in a way. Its just trying to do whats hot and profitable. Looting live service, realistic graphics ect. MUA3 felt in some ways like a throwback. One game, plus an expansion, thats it. I just played a bunch of the game and put it down when I was done. Its not being developed forever or having Christmas hat events you have to log in for, its still 4 player local coop. The content was just there when I felt like playing it. Its just a dense whistle-stop tour of marvel locations and characters, it doesn't take itself so seriously. It felt like someone with some marvel knowledge had a lot of fun planning out the pathway from space through the x mansion and beyond. Its has more of an early comic book feel than I would have expected from a licensed product when the MCU has had such influence in the modern era of these characters. Its bright and colorful and almost forced full of character appearances, which is my prevailing memory of the original Infinity gauntlet comic. That one brief cut scene in the last DLC of all the X-men running to the blackbird did more for me than the entirety of The Square enix Avengers, or almost any modern marvel game combined.
Yeah, I can tell you put a ton of work into this video. That itself deserves a like and a sub. Thanks my man. You was able to show me everything I needed to know about this game that other reviewers haven’t.
Doesn't bother me one bit, wouldn't you say Ua2 did the same by not following up on the Galactus swearing revenge on the people of Earth cliffhanger as well? Each entry is its own with small similarities here and there I'd say.
I just wish it was like the first ultimate alliance. Wish it looked more like the comics instead of the mcu. Would rather have the more realistic style. Actual good costumes in the base game with 4 to unlock or more. The teams you select being shouted. Characters having there own story missiins like alliance 1. And many more
i want to say thats how xmens legends was. I remember unlocking gambit finally late in the game, and i could barely use him because he was so weak lol.
I’m sorry but I still love this game after playing marvels avengers PS4 and also played Strike Force. There’s something charming about this game. I love it
Simplicity, it's a simple story with simple mechanics and simple gameplay, it just fun nothing more and nothing less that's the charm of this game to me
The only issue I had with this game was the fact that they labeled it as a sequel to Ultimate Alliance 2 when it was blatantly not connected at all. They didn't even reference if it was an alternate universe or not. They expected us to believe this was a direct sequel.
A lot of the characters in this game are inspired from the Marvel Heroes game. God I wish that game was still around. Even if it was just up until the last update...
Lego Wan Kenobi yeah man. Played it from day 1 to the actual time it shut down. So much fun. Really miss my psylocke and hulk on that game. Gonna buy this game though eventually. Looks really fun but just so many games i wanna play on switch .
The game kind of feels like marvel lost interest in funding it part way through, so team ninja got desperate and shopped it around to anyone they can. Nintendo eventually agreed to publish it, likely because they needed a big summer release.
I remember the day I bought this game. I picked up it right after work, had the next day off....and literally played from the time I got home around 4pm, till I went to sleep around 3 in the morning. I only stopped to eat and that was it. I was obsessed with progressing and unlocking new characters. This IMO is better than the first two, and Legends by miles.
This is what I did in my first playthrough to avoid any kind of boredom with the characters. When I get a new slew of characters, I usually try to pick the one I know I'll be staying with and keep them for as long as I can, swapping out the other three teammates with newer characters that appear and switching to them while keeping my one, go-to character in the party to level them up.
IMO this game is the perfect pick-up and play for 20 minutes then put down type game. It's fun with friends, it's fun alone, it's just fun. I bought the DLC and still haven't got to it, I just slowly chip away at the game, I know at some point I'll play the DLC but I haven't rushed into it yet, but I also don't regret it either.... I know I'll play it, and I'll play a lot of it. This game will be in rotation on my switch and within my life unironically probably for the next 5 to 10 years (I've been playing the game since day 1 just FYI, recently got the dlc). It's a ton of fun and the simple art style is easy on the eyes, a rare game I bought new and had no regrets about it, whatever the sequel is... I'll buy it new day 1 as long as it's the same devs.
Apart from X-men Legends 3 and another MUA, I would honestly love a Marvel Villainous Alliance. Same concept with the alliance/legends game, except it's with villains and maybe a few neutrals teaming up. Story could be simple, a few heroes suddenly turned evil by some mysterious force (Hint hint - Wanda having another breakdown and makes an AXIS 2.0) or some heroes go missing leaving the villains to wreak havoc. Obviously they'd realize something would be missing and it's the heroes. No Avengers, no X-men, No F4, No Defenders, you get it. Of course they do get back, but they're more evil, crueler than the villains (which would be a good concept to create original "evil" designs for the superheroes) Tony, Strange or Wanda would be great main villains in my head. Strange would be a strategist, summoning demons to slow down the team or Tony would be a the mad scientist creating mini bosses for the team, or Wanda would be altering realities for diverse levels/stages/locations and be the root of all the madness happening. As for the other heroes. I see Cap as a great commander for their army of minions and as a boss. He would send Falcon, Widow, Hawkeye to go after your team from time to time. Cap Marvel would be another commander and send the Guardians on your tail as well. You get the idea.
@@everydayismidnight5508 Despite the implied messages by Fox and Peter on "how did you not know it exsists." Its actually fairly obscure. There is a bio section called reports in the game located inthe gallery. You have to go to system settings on the main menu and select gallery. from there its selecting the report section. the bios and fluff bits are all told from the perspective of Rocket Racoon and the various Guardians.
@@topgun9686 Thanks for the reply. We eventually found it with digging. That thing is weirdly buried. We had no reason to revisit system settings after initial install so I'm not surprised we didn't find it. Kinda disappointing they're all from rocket's perspective.
I really liked the character models in this game and it got me thinking if they could use these character models for a new marvel vs capcom game, i know it take a lot of man hours to change the animation and finding a right balance for it but i think it might work heck you can even just make a new capcom fighting game with these models
I remember buying this game at launch and playing through the campaign 3 times. After that, I couldn't level most of the characters. The game felt too grindy, I got what I could from it and put it down. The artificial extension of this game is too prominent to ignore. I remember being excited for the DLC, eventually, when the DLC came it was too late, I played what I could in the campaign and put it down to play other games. I wish they included more characters like Mystique and Jessica Jones to be playable characters since their models are already created. You can't play as the defenders completely, etc.
The campaign only characters have always been present in this series, but I agree. Every characters should be unlockable. Perhaps after a chapter is completed or through challenges. I definitely have a wishlist for the 4th game.
The original Ultimate Alliance had the better story since it felt like you are actually going on an adventure. I also missed the hub worlds, dialogue conversations, and enemies' names in health bars.
This game is stupid fun. Definitely room for improvement, but have a blast playing it. Once you learn how to beat certain bosses, they’re bot as obnoxious. Looks like a lot of people in the comments just gave up after getting owned by a difficult boss, rather than learning how to defeat them. Guess they need a game that holds your hand through everything and do massive attacks through QTE.
Tip for all newcomers and old players that don’t like camera angles or if you feel like your characters are too small I honestly don’t know why the game doesn’t tell you but if you’re like me and feel like the camera is too far from the characters then try this but honestly I didn’t see any problem with camera angle just characters being too small it also looks a LOT more like the old ultimate alliance in this mode I honestly feel like this option alone that a lot of people don’t know about it would make the people love the game even more or at least hate it less go in camera options and change it from classic to heroic bro when I tell you it makes a difference I promise I’m not bullshitting you can even lock on targets with the right joystick if you press the button and it makes aiming abilities wayyy easier and it makes bosses a lot easier but I will say the only downside about this is you might not wanna use characters that fly cause it can be annoying since the camera doesn’t go down automatically it kinda looks weird but try it if you still play I promise you’ll like the game a lot more
I had a great time on my initial playthrough of this game, but still gotta say UA1 is still the best when it comes to story, character customization (actually had more than 4 abilities per character). They've effectively dumbed down each title since.
@@THE_BEAR_JEW I guess in terms of graphics. But I'm comparing overall content and ways to play. UA 01 had much more depth to the combat. There were three different combos (in UA 3 there's only one you have to spam the entire game)-a standard spam, one where you could stun, and one where you could trip the enemies. You could also grab enemies (you can't do this in UA 3), and there were tons of old beatemup-style weapons laying around (none in UA 3), which you could pick up and use. Also there were tons of character-specific quests you could embark on which would give you tons of lore (none in UA 3 apart from the crappy solo missions which tell you nothing about the characters). The alternate outfits were completely different design-wise from each other and offered separate movesets and perks (instead of palate swaps with no perks like in UA 3), and also it was nowhere near as hard or grindy, to the point of being monotonous like UA 3. And also the controls were better, more responsive. You could dodge-cancel out of combos instead of entering the inputs and being trapped in that animation while the enemy adapts and punishes you. Overall, I think all UA 3 has over the first game is graphics.
i still love many of the features that were introduced in X-MEN Legends 1 & specially on 2 also MUA1 over this game Is hard for me to describe but they removed and degraded many aspects from those games for instance the REMOVE features that allows go completely SOLO-NO TEAM in this games was the first things i noticed about MUA3 that really bugged me i just still have a lot of fun choosing one of my fav X-men and doing solo runs in games such X-men Legends 2 or original Ultimate alliance really disliked the whole Forced team mentality of 3 i don't know i feel like thorn between things that i love about 3 and things that i totally dislike is a love to hate situation for me this game could have been so much better in many aspects but since not really looking to do the longest comment here all i can say is that a reason for me to love this game is having X-men in it and the X-Mansion chapter was what it made me buy into the game before i played for myself Hard mode and starting to realize so many issues with it that nearly turned me off entirely from the game itself i was just disappointed with many of the stupid changes and waterdown mechanics also fuck the camera angles man
Haven't played it yet...but don't plan to for some of the reasons you mentioned. I'm a big lover of both XMen Legends and the firs two Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. This one just looks like a whole lot of bells and whistles with little substance. The camera angle SUCKS IMO and the power effects take up way too much of the screen space. You can barely see what's happening with all the effects going crazy simultaneously. Too many scenes look like nothing but a rapid explosion of colors and effects. XMen Legends and MUA 1 & 2 looked great when characters used their powers and you could tell what was happening with detail. Also, I don't like the heavy MCU influence...I'm more a fan of comic specific stories and looks. For instance, the original Ms Marvel looks far superior to MCU's Captain Marvel and is simply a more likeable character from costume to attitude.
Idk if you still play the game but I have a solution to you’re camera angle problem i honesty don’t know why the game doesn’t tell you but if you’re like me and feel like the camera is too far from the characters then try this but honestly I didn’t see any problem with camera angle just characters being too small it also looks a LOT more like the old ultimate alliance in this mode I honestly feel like this option alone that a lot of people don’t know about it would make the people love the game even more or at least hate it less go in camera options and change it from classic to heroic bro when I tell you it makes a difference I promise I’m not bullshitting you can even lock on targets with the right joystick if you press the button and it makes aiming abilities wayyy easier and it makes bosses a lot easier but I will say the only downside about this is you might not wanna use characters that fly cause it can be annoying since the camera doesn’t go down automatically it kinda looks weird but try it if you still play I promise you’ll like the game a lot more

i do appreciate it man and see what you mean, i still play the game occasionally cos i still love the care and love showed for my X-men in this games and do love playing Cyclops, psylocke, Nightcrawler etc i just honestly still love much X-MEN L,2 any day of the century if you haven't play them entirely ? 100% suggest you to find a way specially if you can play the PC version those still 2 of my personal dearest games of all times and truly always makes me wish that Ravensoft never have stop making them it is a crime that X-MEN LEGENDS 3 haven't happened yet but regarding the cam angles guess what i meant is that, they tend to give me serious disorienting reactions and is just like the man said in his other commentary that things looks perfectly neat and clear in those games but in MUA3 most of times things feels like a complete flashy disaster that makes it harder for me to focus in what am doing if anyone ask me it was X-LEGENDS 2 the one game that brought the highest bar and brought a nearly perfectly formula that should have NEVER be changed
Correction: the initial plan was to hide the infinity stones. They did not want to confront Thanos at all . Yeah, on my first play through strange was tough and perhaps so was wakanda... But, I didn't have to grind to win. Snipers are easy enough to dodge and not a problem, as long as you take them out first and dodge when they are about to shoot.
I have every X-Man at level 300, and everyone else between 100 and 200. I bought a Switch to get this game, and I wanted this game because it actually had X-Men. I did not have the same experience you had regarding leveling. Quite in contrast. Playing on Normal difficulty, a single group of characters will always out-level the content and be ahead of the curve. And every new character introduced would be ahead of the game level curve, so they could be hot-swapped in without any issue, provided you did it immediately. If you started on the Hard difficulty though, that would be entirely different. While I would definitely buy Ultimate Alliance 4, I think I would greatly prefer X-Men Legends 3.
As a fellow X-Men fan I would also prefer a sequel to X-Men Legends instead of an Ultimate Alliance 4. I'm curious, which was your favorite X-Men Legends/Ultimate Alliance game? And your least favorite? And where would you place MUA 3, it's the only one I haven't played since I have no Switch.
It is because of the grind is why I currently have logged in over 1135 hours on this game alone and I am still grinding my characters. The main reason is because I love the characters so much that I want level up all 52 characters to level 300.
If others enjoy the grind more than we did, more power to them. We logged 250 hours into the game and the fact nearly 1200 means the characters still aren't maxed out we're not sure that's incentive to keep playing.
That's where the iso 8 comes in. That white one that gives a 100% bonus to team xp. And since they stack, you can just fill every characters slot with them and pick an infinity rift with a lot of enemies. Max level characters in no time.
@@megablueflash1816 I know about these iso-8 and I have been using them. Unfortunately, I only have 3 white team xp boost and 4 blue individual xp boost and I don`t know how to get more.
@@makangwei In that case, do have any that increases your chances of picking up a white iso 8? If you're looking for more then that's probably the best way of doing it, just use as many of those as you have.
@@megablueflash1816 I wish there was a better way to search and manage the iso8s. I may have a couple, but browsing through all my iso8s is so time consuming and boring. I much rather play through the game with my favourite characters than stare at the iso8 screen for hours.
I agree with like everything in this video I did not play nearly as much as you did but I got more of the same feelings even though I loved playing this game
I’m just glad this exists because it gives my son a Marvel game he can play easily and for hours. The new Avengers was a tad too difficult for a 7 year old lol
I just bought this as it's currently on sale in the eshop. Watching the video was interesting for me because I play a lot of Warframe (PC and Switch with over 2000 hours on each) and some of the currencies and grinding had me thinking "So, it's like Warframe then..." Still, my main motivation for buying the game are the characters and the portability of it all. I have no desire whatsoever to invest in The Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy so MUA 3 seemed like a good alternative, considering the sale. Thanks for the video. It's appreciated.
bro the algorithm blessed me, been on a mua kick lately so went down the rabbit hole and found this video. felt like a video from a youtuber with 100k subs not less than 1k
Thank you very much for those video! I put 100+ hours into this game when it came out but fell out of the loop around the time the dlc came out and just never jumped back in it so I was hoping to find a review on the state of the game now. I feel similarly to the way you do, this is ALMOST an awesome game to me. I personally don’t mind repeating levels and the approach they took to an endgame experience since it isn’t an online only game like most of these types of games tend to be. The thing that’s always bummed me about it is the shallowness of the RPG side of things, healing characters don’t heal that much, buffing characters don’t buff that much (just like you went over) and it’s always made me feel like something as simple as raising the numbers of those abilities on the developer side of things is all that would be needed to take this game from a solid one to one of the greats.
I’m really glad someone had a more recent video of this game out there. It looked cool to me before launch, but after launch I didn’t hear much about it except that people here and there didn’t like it too much. Overall, it sounds like something I’d probably buy on sale. It’s funny, I had no idea Team Ninja made this, but it makes sense considering they have a habit of making the most divisive entry in every beloved series they get their hands on (DMC and Metroid: Other M). Anyway, that was a great, in-depth review. Hard to believe you don’t have a lot more subs with this level of quality
While the rosrer of X-Men included in the DLC may seem somewhat confusing at face value, it makes sense for an Ultimate Alliance game. Jean is the most obvious inclusion, as a founding X-Man and one of the most prevalent characters in that group, her inclusion is no suprise. Gambit was included both due to his popularity and his history with the X-Men legends and MUA franchise, appearing in every game and being playable in all but the first MUA (he was shown dead in a cutscene in that game). Iceman seems like a weird pick, but he’s actually one of only three characters to be playable in every port of every X-Men Legends and MUA game, the others being Wolverine and Storm, so he has a massive legacy with the franchise and his exclusion from the base roster was very weird. Cable is the most off-the-wall pick IMO, since his only playable appearances in the franchise were the PSP port of XML2 and the very hard to get a hold of DLC for MUA2, but he has been playable a couple times before. I think he was primarily chosen due to his recent popularity as a character in the second Deadpool movie.
I was too immersed in Pokemon late 2019 that I didn't start playing this heavily until the holiday season but in 2020 I've logged hundreds of hours into this and still going.
I got slightly over a minute in, and I disagree with you and the "this game tells you nothing about the characters" take because you always get a brief introduction cutscene for new characters you get, or unique dialog for having the characters with you, which let's the player get a brief glimpse at the character which, at least for me, gets players to look deeper into said characters Edit: OK I definitely agree with you about the levels, I absolutely LOVE the X-Mansion level
I think that this is a very fair review of the game. I still consider it good because the part that everyone came for is more or less intact. I still have lots of fun with playing the story mode as is. Most of the other content is uninteresting to me. The only alternative costumes that I wanted to unlock were; Extremis Iron Man, Ms Marvel Carol Danvers, and Iceman's yellow costume. All the other characters default costumes are fine with me (Jim Lee Cyclops is my favorite look for him) so I have no reason to continue getting the rest. I do agree that the ISO 8 is a serious flaw even if it's only a minor annoyance to me at the most. It would have been better if you stopped earning it from chests and elites and bosses when you are filled up with it but the game would still continue. I only got the dlc to play as the other characters and I did find them good for what was done with them. That's why as soon as I got them, I never touched gauntlet mode again because you are on point, they are tedious and frustrating. That being said I still consider it a good game because the frustrating stuff is for the most part completely optional. I beat the game at Superior difficulty and got all my characters up to level 60. I am pretty sure that they can handle themselves at that difficulty and I am not interested in going through nightmare mode because the difficulty is decided by random hazards like you said.
Not really. They're all told from the perspective of Rocket Raccoon, who (in this universe) has apparently never met most of these characters prior to the game's events and doesn't know much about them yet, so if there are any you're not too familiar with or have never heard of at all, it's best to look up information about them online.
@@christianwelch4206 I mean it’s Marvel and safe to assume that anyone playing the game would be at least somewhat aware of the Marvel Universe roster. I mean really the only unknown for most people is probably Elsa Bloodstone. And it should be Rocket to do the bios since he’s the “joke” character of Marvel and lightens the mood.
@@sconex8072 While Elsa is certainly the most obscure character in the game, she's definitely not the *_only_* unknown. Psylocke, for example, doesn't get a whole lot of time in the spotlight outside the comics. Not everyone reads the comics, and even those who do haven't read every single issue. If you're one of those people who became a fan of the X-Men thanks to the movies, cartoons, and/or video games, you won't know much about her other than her powers going into UA3, and by the time you're done, you won't learn much else. Another unknown, to me, at least, is Crystal. I've never read any of the comics she was in, nor have I watched or even intend to watch the Inhumans TV series, so I knew absolutely nothing about her prior to playing this game. Admittedly, it did succeed in teaching me a few things about her and Inhumans in general, but I'm still not exactly an expert. Speaking of Inhumans, I recall seeing a comment on this site posted by someone who, at the time, hadn't even heard of Kamala Khan. I don't remember this person's username or the video they commented on, but I do recall them being confused upon discovering that Carol Danvers has taken up the mantle of Captain Marvel and some random teenage girl is the new Ms. Marvel. TL;DR, some people are Marvel experts, and some aren't.
Mister Fields dang, never had that experience. I almost did buy the 2nd one for PSP but that was years past its release lmfao I almost felt embarrassed to ask Best Buy if they had a copy of it when I knew damn well they wouldn’t have an old-ass game like that in stock. 2nd one wasn’t even better than the first one.
I think what could been neat for Marvel ultimate alliance, if they remade/remake/recreate base on the marvel 90s beat em up games, but in the Ultimate alliance gameplay, that would been interesting and good. if they were like dlcs packs or just unlockable bonuses missions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America_and_The_Avengers en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_(1992_video_game) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_and_Venom:_Maximum_Carnage en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venom/Spider-Man:_Separation_Anxiety en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Super_Heroes_In_War_of_the_Gems And it seems if this game ever get a pc and other console ports it needs some re-balancing
It was the biggest love letter in the game. I love that chapter. I've played it more than any other.... well other than Asgard's Throne room but that was farming ISO-8s and credits. :)
@@apoxalypsewhen I started out playing portable always but now I play docked almost every day too. But that's because I sold my xbox and my ps4 broke so now my switch is my main system. If you have a xb1 or ps4 the lite isnt a bad option otherwise I'd say normal version.
I'm currently 60 hours into the game... I'm loving the game so far and play it with my brother and nephew. The real flaw for me is the camera. Aside from that, grinding is much more fun with others. Else, you just feel burned out which is how you sound halfway through the video. It is a good review though and I can see why you'd say such things about the game.
right, my first thought was, "why not just focus on the characters you like to use and ignore the rest?" I play a lot of Warframe, which also has a lot of currencies in it. Yet, I've had a much better time with it (over 2000 hours worth) because I'm not obsessive compulsive needing to get every Warframe, join every syndicate, and level up every weapon in the game. I'd bet the same here as I'm considering a purchase.
Good video, like you said theres potential here for MUA4, (iso8s need to be eradicated tho lol) perhaps bring back a gear system from X-Men legends? The fast action, button mashing synergy+extreme combat is all great, but more abilitys to customize superheros would be welcomed here. It's a mixed bag lol and all the menus+load times and the ridiculous grind to get AEP 🤦♂️ + non-destructible iso8s and a 1000 cap???? Come on test your games 🎮 Team Ninja 😡
I had the exact same issues with grinding when I first started playing and, on a whim, decided to switch difficulties down to “friendly”. And holy crap! It felt like that was supposed to be the normal mode. Still challenging to the point I needed to consider synergies and put effort into boss battles, but the grinding wasn’t nearly as incessant or frustrating. I actually felt like a super hero. And when you unlock heroes they feel like their level is scaled correctly. In short it was - fun! I seriously have a theory that Friendly mode is actually the “normal” difficulty and that Mighty is the “hard” difficulty. And that the game mislabeling them is one of the biggest mistakes it makes for new players. Or maybe I’m just making excuses for my bro and me playing on easy. 😂
@@everydayismidnight5508 I agree, it's a shame that it seems little thought was put into what actually makes a game challenging instead of tedious. I still enjoyed the game, but I do feel it could have been so much more.
Yep it's tedious to have to keep getting rid of ISO-8's that aren't you using. And it's made worse by the fact that if you ignore the warnings the game will crash at some point.
For some reason this game was just missing something, Even though all the characters play almost completely different their special abilities feel very samey sometimes. Idk I hope ultimate alliance 4 comes with some innovation. The endgame for this game was also trash and the only good thing about the dlc were the additional character and the epilogue chapter at the end.
This game is kinda shallow compared to the others i don't consider it part of the series. I thought they would do something better with more modern technology. Could have been sooo much cooler. Sure it's fun at times but it didn't make up for its flaws.
I honestly think IF Ninja Theory does another one that game will be better. The DLC characters by in large were better designed. But still much shallower than MUA1. So I'm hoping there's another one. And I'm hoping it's better. But I got some cynical thoughts that we're not getting another one and if we do they're contract out to some other company who will also fumble.
Man, that celestial part really got me angry until I looked it up. You weren’t kidding when you said people may not know that Thing makes it trivial, I never used Things moveset even tho I was rocking them as a team, so I had no clue.
I been on the fence about picking this game up and adding to my collection. Seeing all these beloved characters on the screen just seems so exciting and a lot of fun. But the grinding seems incredibly tidous I don’t think I’d be able to get past it. I would want to pick it up just for the fun of it to play with my friends and family. If that’s not present here, I’m afraid I won’t get it.
The grind is a huge part of this game. It can still be played in co-op. It just doesn't always feel great as a co-op game. I have nieces and nephews under the age of 10 and I wouldn't start a new game with them as many of the most popular characters can be a bit underwhelming (Spider-Man for example). I would just have them replay the campaign with my high level characters so they could enjoy the experience and be able to switch characters on the fly. A kid over 10 might have more time on their hands to really unlock everything and level up everyone. They might enjoy it. God knows I played enough grindy games growing up that I can't throw any shade on another kid doing the same now. If you like the characters and don't mind grinding it's a good game. I enjoyed it. But it's hard to recommend as a party game.
It's not that bad a lot of the criticism is about stuff everyone know was going to be poorly developed the ISO 8 is really annoying but me and my brothers had a blast with our first playthrough with only MODOK, the destroyer and Thanos being walls for us, and we felt amazing once we double lasered that purple genocide with Iron man and rocket...
This game is so weird. It tried being an exclusive sequel to a multiple platforms game. And since they choose nintendo, they more likely went to a more cartoony style of comics then the original one inspired the civil war comics with more details. So the people that came from the old games didn't feel motivated to buy a console for the game since I think MUA was never released on a nintendo platform before this, and even if they had. And nintendo players haven't played possibly any of the other games before and are wondering why bother? Especially when it's really heavy on the comic knowledge side of things. I'm really wondering what demographic was this made for? It is such a mess of trying to appeal to two quite different groups of players and failing on attracting them. Making this game be forgotten whilst the other ones (Mostly 2) are kept with high prestige due to nostalgia and overall good game mechanics and setting
having it as a multi console would have been better in the future, i get it, Nintendo needed an exclusive for their switch back then but if they would have added trivia's (they do have profiles you just have to dig deeper into the menu) tweak the difficulty simplify the iso 8 and have the benched characters level up like the last two games and it would have been great and hope they would release this on the PS5 and xbox series x(s) if it gets a re-release but with some fixes and improved difficulty, but hey MUA3 is a better game than Avengers 2020
RockerMike92 wayyyy bettter Marvels Avengers was made by people who don’t even know what type of game Marvels Avengers was even supposed to be they lack any care or enthusiasm towards the future of the game as it stands at least this game has more villains and fan favourite characters to play around with and way more end content..
As for the difficulty, what the hell did anyone expect from the makers of nioh and ninja gaiden. It’s actually a huge plus for me. I don’t think it’s artificial at all, if you are mentally prepared for dying dozens of times in order to beat something. This all said, my son owned this when he was like 9(?) and we beat it on mighty. Some of the boss fights were hectic but team ninja is really good at making it your own fault when you die, and this game is really no different than their other ip’s. I have beat it on mighty on my own but I can’t say if it is horribly unbalanced when in co op because it’s been a minute. I guess I’m biased as nioh(2) is in my top 3 games with bloodborne and monster hunter. When you compare this to avengers, which can be quite difficult on brutal, it really is putting that game to shame.
Bought this over xmas break since I was gifted my gf's old switch, they are brutal with any sales so I gave in finally. Had no idea what kind of grind I was in for until watching this. Wow. I'm only in my high 30's with 5-6 characters right now and it already feels kind of grindy, It's almost like this game was made for frustration monetization. I just did the sniper section in Wakanda and was wondering if high levels would mean anything with the snipers, now I know.
I think the number of unbreakables are limited in the game so that you can only get when about once at certain key story points, I could be wrong but I really hope I’m right because the idea of getting so many unbreakables that you can’t play anymore makes me shiver with cringe at how any developer could not think about this.
there are so many problems this game has that were non existent in the first game 15 years ago, it is really disheartening how much better that one was
I wish there were unlocks ke abilities different light and heavy attacks for each character to equip which would be similar abilities. Also a game mode where you fight other players online with your team of heroes would’ve been nice. More costumes should’ve been added or at least more alternate colors. The way this game is made it should’ve had several updates especially cosmetic ones like costumes. For example black widow. Her alternate costume yelena belova is great. However, the alternate color scheme sent the greatest. I know most of the alternate skins are based off other costumes heroes have worn but this wasn’t the best costume alternate they could’ve chosen. They should’ve turned the widows symbol red, removed her goggles, turned her hair red and made the suit completely black. It also wouldn’t have hurt to turn the batons black. She her unlockable abilities could’ve been a black widow takedown, her widows line, a sniper rifle similar to the ones on wakanda, she could’ve had electric bombs similar to her grenades, but instead of blowing them away it would shock them in place. All characters should’ve had a fast way to move black widow could’ve had used her widows line for faster speed much like webslinging or better a motorcycle. This game really should’ve have focused there characters on ISO 8s but on customizability. New game modes could’ve made this game less repetitive in modes like danger room and gauntlets. Infinity trials also should’ve had a solo for each character to unlock a special costume. Also there should’ve at least four alternate costumes all with at least three reskins. One last thing the game should’ve showed the costumes in story mode during cutscenes. If you had a certain character wearing a certain costume it would’ve been nice to see them wear it.
Also when abilities are upgraded to the Maximum it would be nice for them to have a great upgrade. For example when widow/gamora shoots they should be able to move around rather than stand in place when shooting once the ability is maxed out.
The janky mechanics, shallow uninspired combat, spongy super armor enemies, unreasonable amount of grinding, and severe overreliance on levels and RNG equips are what kills this game for me. I bought this game because I like beat-em-ups and I really loved the artistic direction the game took with the characters but aside from the aesthetics everything about this MUA3 is just awful.
While I thought the difficulty was a big wild for a light fun game such as this. I actually enjoyed the Hell outta this game and yeah it requires a bit of grinding but I enjoyed it enough to dig in and power my characters up to feel like a Real Avenger!
Did they remove the ability to increase your individual stats on the hexagon thing? like strength mastery durability etc. I only see Alliance enhancements now..
I loved this game the first play through but the leveling system really made me not want to replay it. They need to go back to the system of the original games.
Weird how different people have such different experiences with the game. I had none of the leveling complaints you did. Literally the only ones I still have are with iso8 management and the fact many of the datamined characters ended up not getting added. Well, and a few of the characters' balance could've been patched, that would've been nice. SW, DS, SM, DP, and R&G all could've used some love. Also confused about the X-Mansion being your high point of the story. Did you not finish it? Cuz the last chapter was easily the best part with all the boss fights and you're literally the first person I've heard mention the X-Men level lol
@@electric_meadows_racing I was about to ask like Thor's Godspeed in MUA1? No. Unfortunately. There is a slight exploit though with using light and heavy attacks while holding down your shield/guard button. It removes almost all end lag to the attack allowing you to get in a few light and heavy attacks much faster. But it's nothing like speed demon Thor in MUA.
Nintendo published the game, hence the exclusivity. Unless marvel has some crazy policy in the contract to release it on other platfotms in the future, you're out of luck.
Well that's the thing witj exclusive content... on one hand without the publisher the game could neve come to be, in the other i've never been able to play God of war, or Bloodborne because Sony has the exclusivity...
"Everything is the way it is in this game just to prolong it's run time.. once you unlock everything there's nothing else to do." Uhh, yes.. the "the game runs out of content" problem is solved by adding longevity and what's one of the most popular ways of doing that in games? Grind. Is it better to pay full price for a 15 hour game that's easy as hell and doesn't incentivize the player to actively replay it or a game that has some grinding but also gives you a reason to come back like 90+ hours after the first 14 you needed to beat the game? Same goes for ISO-8, is it a fantastic mechanic? No.. Would the game be better without it? No. If you don't like it, just ignore it.. You know.. some people actually like to have a reason to keep playing a game they like. This game also shits on every "super hero team game" in any current console, like.. it's not even funny how much better this is compared to Marvel's Avengers or Lego games. I don't know.. don't wanna be too combative in my argument but Team Ninja clearly put effort into this game and what's even more impressive is that they went all in with multiple game modes, characters to unlock, costumes, levels etc. This is so much more than a dev for a AAA current gen game is willing to put in their games. I also think your complaint about characters not being fun or viable at low levels is a bit too biased on the "hardcore gamer/min maxer" side of things. I say this because, when you first played the game with these characters, did you felt this way? Or did you just had fun? I played this game with my girlfriend who isn't a gamer at all, selecting characters based on what we wanted to play at the time and every character felt viable, powerful and fun. This complaint is kinda like saying "well after leveling my Diablo 3 character to 90 and fully equipping him I feel like creating a new character at level 1 feels very underpowered and not fun". Well obviously you do. You sound like you didn't need this game to be as big as it is... but since it has an endgame, a lot of grind and content you want to play it. So, if you ever read this answer this question. If you stopped playing this game after the credits rolled roughly at the 14 hour mark, would you have a higher or a lower opining on this game compared to purposefully suffering through countless hours of grinding?
It's disappointing how many unplayable characters are in the game. The only funny example is Deadpool is both an NPC and a playable character so he can actually talk to himself.

I really enjoyed this game. I'd only want three things if there was a sequel:
1. A light and heavy attack in the air
2. Dynasty Warriors style combo system where doing a heavy attack after certain amounts of light attacks makes them perform a unique heavy attack
3. PVP mode that is basically like Power Stone from Capcom where you beat each other up in a small arena
More characters

So you want Ultimate Alliance 2?
Breaking down Iso-8s is easily the most annoying thing about this game.
Agreed.
Basically why I stopped playing.
Why they couldn’t just have select as many as you want to delete
Especially of you dont start doing house keeping on them immediately after they become available like I did. But ya it would have been nice to have the option to break down all of a certain type or upgrade.
@@jetssimeone4086 You can actually delete 10 at once. But there should've been a mass deletion option for ISO-8's that you haven't equipped any of the playable roster with.
They should remake the X-men legends 1 and 2 hopefully they bring it on the Nintendo Switch
Stupid licensing rights... its because of those we dont see more xmen games...
By far the most detailed MUA3 video I’ve seen.
Yeah, I can tell you put a ton of work into this video. That itself deserves a like and a sub. Thanks my man. You was able to show me everything I needed to know about this game that other reviewers haven’t.

You want dlc and spend ton of money in microtransactions go play that garbage marvel avenger!👎🤣😂😂
Agreed.
Absolutely!
Of course they do get back, but they're more evil, crueler than the villains (which would be a good concept to create original "evil" designs for the superheroes)
Tony, Strange or Wanda would be great main villains in my head.

MUA3 is a FANTASTIC game. It's just not for everyone. I love it.

I had a great time on my initial playthrough of this game, but still gotta say UA1 is still the best when it comes to story, character customization (actually had more than 4 abilities per character).
They've effectively dumbed down each title since.
This is why I just want a UA1 remaster
Facts
This game feels like a triple A version of marvel future fight
The best UA was the first one hands down. Best mechanics, better response, not just a bloddy stunlock buffet. And tons of story.
I played it shortly before the release of UA3 and I must say the original didn't age well. The latest entry is the best by far.
I mainly keep Wolverine in my team for 2 reasons: his ferocious attacks and his healing factor

i was just disappointed with many of the stupid changes and waterdown mechanics
also fuck the camera angles man
Haven't played it yet...but don't plan to for some of the reasons you mentioned.

@@Israel-nb7ip talking about X-men legends when I say slow animations
i do appreciate it man and see what you mean, i still play the game occasionally cos i still love the care and love showed for my X-men in this games and do love playing Cyclops, psylocke, Nightcrawler etc
i just honestly still love much X-MEN L,2 any day of the century
if you haven't play them entirely ? 100% suggest you to find a way specially if you can play the PC version
those still 2 of my personal dearest games of all times and truly always makes me wish that Ravensoft never have stop making them
it is a crime that X-MEN LEGENDS 3 haven't happened yet
but regarding the cam angles guess what i meant is that, they tend to give me serious disorienting reactions
and is just like the man said in his other commentary
that things looks perfectly neat and clear in those games
but in MUA3 most of times things feels like a complete flashy disaster that makes it harder for me to focus in what am doing
if anyone ask me it was X-LEGENDS 2 the one game that brought the highest bar
and brought a nearly perfectly formula that should have NEVER be changed
Correction: the initial plan was to hide the infinity stones. They did not want to confront Thanos at all .
Yeah, on my first play through strange was tough and perhaps so was wakanda...
But, I didn't have to grind to win. Snipers are easy enough to dodge and not a problem, as long as you take them out first and dodge when they are about to shoot.
I like to ru straigth to them with Black panter and have them focus fire on me while my brother runs to take cover
I agree with like everything in this video
I did not play nearly as much as you did but I got more of the same feelings even though I loved playing this game
I’m just glad this exists because it gives my son a Marvel game he can play easily and for hours. The new Avengers was a tad too difficult for a 7 year old lol
We need an Ultimate Alliance game for Playstation and X Box
Agreed.
In mua they even has a simulation mission where a character gives a bio and face their iconic rival.
I remember ISO-8's were used in contest of champions, the ftp phone game, tedious then, tedious now.
I just did the same. Also wanted a game I could play with a friend or my daughter is they're around.
bro the algorithm blessed me, been on a mua kick lately so went down the rabbit hole and found this video. felt like a video from a youtuber with 100k subs not less than 1k
That was a really good and thorough review. Well done sir! 👏
Thank you sir.
I got slightly over a minute in, and I disagree with you and the "this game tells you nothing about the characters" take because you always get a brief introduction cutscene for new characters you get, or unique dialog for having the characters with you, which let's the player get a brief glimpse at the character which, at least for me, gets players to look deeper into said characters
Edit: OK I definitely agree with you about the levels, I absolutely LOVE the X-Mansion level
I am pretty sure that they can handle themselves at that difficulty and I am not interested in going through nightmare mode because the difficulty is decided by random hazards like you said.
my guy you deserve more subs. Great video
Kit Fisto TRUE
Appreciate that. Coming up on our 1 year. Trying to break a thousand subs by the end of the year.
Just found your channel. Really enjoying it so far 😊 keep it up mate
Thanks my man!
Wait you said you couldn’t learn much about the heroes? Then what about their bios in the gallery section? That’s gotta count for something right?
lol!
Lmao your right
For real we need a remaster of X-Men Legends or a 3rd installment of the first two.
3rd one please
You can borrow my copy for original xbox
Mister Fields dang, never had that experience. I almost did buy the 2nd one for PSP but that was years past its release lmfao I almost felt embarrassed to ask Best Buy if they had a copy of it when I knew damn well they wouldn’t have an old-ass game like that in stock. 2nd one wasn’t even better than the first one.
Both would be fine.
I think what could been neat for Marvel ultimate alliance,
if they remade/remake/recreate base on the marvel 90s beat em up games,
but in the Ultimate alliance gameplay, that would been interesting and good.
if they were like dlcs packs or just unlockable bonuses missions.

I completely geeked out when the X-men were introduced ^_^
It was the biggest love letter in the game. I love that chapter. I've played it more than any other.... well other than Asgard's Throne room but that was farming ISO-8s and credits. :)
Lol at the beginning of this video I was considering buying the game. But now not so much. What a bummer 😞
This game is the only reason I'm getting a switch
Same here, but then I started exploring the nintendo store and now there's so many gems on the switch, some old and new😂
Get Zelda BotW. Trust me! Also some other good games that are cheaper and great for switch- Dead Cells, Celeste, SteamWorld Dig 2 and The Messenger.
this was my only reason, but a fell in love for other games.
@@TheLuckyShepherd i cant décide whether to buy a switch or a switch lite

I had an idea about an Ultimate Alliance 4 that has you going through the previous games to assemble the team.
You can change the camera to be directly behind you
I wish Winter Soldier, Green Goblin and Beast had been added to the game.
You and me both, man.
I literally spent zero time grinding. I found the characters I liked and fed them up cubes if they needed to he leveled up.
Same
You have to grind to get your characters damage output up especially with all the difficulty increases
right, my first thought was, "why not just focus on the characters you like to use and ignore the rest?" I play a lot of Warframe, which also has a lot of currencies in it.
You have no idea how frustrating that corridor is in the last DLC, and all you needed was the thing? Holy moley
Could be. Higher difficulties should add more challenge rather than frustration though.
@@everydayismidnight5508 I agree, it's a shame that it seems little thought was put into what actually makes a game challenging instead of tedious. I still enjoyed the game, but I do feel it could have been so much more.
The ISO-8's are the main reason I stopped playing. If they fixed the storage cap, then I would play 24/7.
Seriously. Hitting at least 950 ISOs is so easy to reach especially when you're farming for team exp ISOs. The storage warning is extremely annoying.
This game felt absolutely nothing like X-Men Legends or Ultimate Alliance.
This one is not a dungeon crawler, that's the main diference
It'sJustGus Luna it’s just wasn’t such an interesting game overall, it felt so basic
But it's hard to recommend as a party game.
you may as well get the first or second game. way better than what they made here. first one is my fav
Sad cheat codes are gone from the game :P
Excellent review, very comprehensive!!
having it as a multi console would have been better in the future, i get it, Nintendo needed an exclusive for their switch back then but if they would have added trivia's (they do have profiles you just have to dig deeper into the menu) tweak the difficulty simplify the iso 8 and have the benched characters level up like the last two games and it would have been great and hope they would release this on the PS5 and xbox series x(s) if it gets a re-release but with some fixes and improved difficulty, but hey MUA3 is a better game than Avengers 2020
Avenged Decay not to mention the controversial Spider-Man dlc for PlayStation
I think the complaints are not about the developer specifically, but more about how this franchise had a more casual bent to it. But I see your point.
Wakanda is brutal at low levels. Good luck, dude.
I think the number of unbreakables are limited in the game so that you can only get when about once at certain key story points, I could be wrong but I really hope I’m right because the idea of getting so many unbreakables that you can’t play anymore makes me shiver with cringe at how any developer could not think about this.
Ms marvel and mr fantastic do a lot of stagger damage spin to win
I love to put Ironman, and rocket to just blast everyone with the laser attack, it's so much fun
there are so many problems this game has that were non existent in the first game 15 years ago, it is really disheartening how much better that one was
Almost forgot this came out
I wish there were unlocks ke abilities different light and heavy attacks for each character to equip which would be similar abilities.
One small nick pick the physics in this game werent the best specifically cape and hair physics.
You deserve way more recognition!!!
Thanks bud!

Thanks dude. Slowly but surely we're getting there.
I wish they'd keep adding to the game
Do any characters have a special to temporarily speed them up as far as punch speed
like thor in ultimate alliance 1
@@electric_meadows_racing I was about to ask like Thor's Godspeed in MUA1?
No. Unfortunately. There is a slight exploit though with using light and heavy attacks while holding down your shield/guard button. It removes almost all end lag to the attack allowing you to get in a few light and heavy attacks much faster.
But it's nothing like speed demon Thor in MUA.
Seeing the X-mansion stage only makes me long for X-men Legends 3 so much more, if only Raven weren't stuck on cod for the last decade
The stats rpg tedium in this was so off putting compared to the 1st and 2nd game.
You are awesome. Everyday is midnight. Don't you ever change.
Thanks bud. You too.
It anger's me that this is a switch exclusive I want to play this so much.
Nintendo published the game, hence the exclusivity. Unless marvel has some crazy policy in the contract to release it on other platfotms in the future, you're out of luck.

Nintendo owners can say the same about the avengers game.
Well that's the thing witj exclusive content... on one hand without the publisher the game could neve come to be, in the other i've never been able to play God of war, or Bloodborne because Sony has the exclusivity...
"Everything is the way it is in this game just to prolong it's run time.. once you unlock everything there's nothing else to do."
Uhh, yes.. the "the game runs out of content" problem is solved by adding longevity and what's one of the most popular ways of doing that in games?
2:22 “counting npcs and boss fights” well that crushed me, I thought you meant 90 playable characters
It's disappointing how many unplayable characters are in the game. The only funny example is Deadpool is both an NPC and a playable character so he can actually talk to himself.
There's actually 86 playable characters either way
