    I noticed the installers didn’t put sealant on the thru bolts or behind the plates in the inside of the transom .
    My thoughts are if you have opportunity to get sealant everywhere you can the get’r done.

    I love your channel Capt. I’m probably a few years away from purchasing a boat but this series has shed a lot of light on how boats are built and things to look for in a quality build. I had never heard of Latitude boats but I’m definitely adding them to my list of potential builders because of this series. I hope they appreciate the light you are shinning on their company! I’m sure it’s going to bring them a lot of business.

    Hope you have better luck with your Suzuki 350 than I have. I have mine on a 25 bay boat and at 51.3 hours the lower unit failed. This occurred on Aug. 8 which was a Saturday. I spoke to my dealer this morning and he informed me that rather than replace the lower unit Suzuki has decided to repair it. Unit was full of metal shavings when they drained the lower unit oil. Lower unit was serviced at 20 hours per Suzuki specs. It took Suzuki 3 weeks to determine if it was a warranty claim. Now I'm waiting on parts with no date of when they will arrive.
    I'm a life time boater and this is my 6th boat in the last 35 years. It's the first Suzuki and actually the first time I've been left stranded on the water. I hope and pray it's just an isolated case but from what I read on boating forums (Hull Truth) I'm one of many. Good luck with that new boat!

    Mike, thank you for sharing the build with us. Your channel is one of the top channels on TH-cam!! You have always provided great, accurate information with tips and tricks that I can tell you use. PLUS, you even have me tossing pancakes ( well sort of ) after watching your net throwing videos. You even have me thinking about building a boat with these guys now. I am just having a hard time thinking about selling my Carolina Classic 25 with a diesel in it. She runs so cheap, I just wish it was faster when Im crossing over to the West End. Looking forward to the rest of the build and watching what you end up using for electronics.

    Great video! We love having the bracket on our 28’ Dusky. Brackets make the boat float more in the stern and I can always tell when I am not driving a boat with a bracket on it. Love the brackets all around for sure.

      Didn't see epoxy after the drill and 5300, shame that misstep will ruin all that work in short order. With today's composites I wonder why anyone would use wood anywhere on a boat build, especially in a bilge environment. Might as well put plastic thru-hull fittings on it while your at it. Oh well, looks pretty right?

    I have an 88 mako with a full transom and bracket. I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. You do have to be mindful of the wake when coming off plane as you said. Great build and keep the videos coming.

      @@Laspatoadv Pros: the engine being set back adds performance andthe enclosed transom adds safety from waves/wakes. Cons: be mindful of the wake when coming off plane so you don't swamp the engine.

    Awesome video! I have a 23ft cuddy with 225 Yamaha on a mother bracket. You're absolutely right...it rides really low in the water. Before I'm able to get up on a plain the water is almost up to the trim switch. It's kind of aggravating, and if the water is rough it dips really bad on the bottom of a swell. I'm actually thinking about getting rid of the motor mount and just mounting straight to the transom.

  • @destinypirate
    @destinypirate ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It appears that no one widens the holes, fills with expoxy, and redrills anymore? With the advent of the foam cores we may be forgetting something - Water intrusion will happen. That 5200 won't hold a perfect seal against the massive leverage and power forces. Water can still intrude, causing delamination of glass wicking towards transom mounted electrical (battery) connections etc. About 4 hours, $30, and a day of drying is worth preserving these great boats. Also might be worth showing how centering can be measured off the chines and how to determine motor height.

    What I have also noted that is not mentioned usually, when using a bracket with full transom, the motors tend to be quieter at speed than on transom mounted motors. That’s my experience. Some of the volume of noise is bouncing off the full transom height, to explain it. I went from a 20ft single 150 on transom, to a 25 with twin 200s on a bracket. All 2 stroke V6. Both Grady walk arounds. The twins were quieter than the single. Yes I am sitting further forward, but not by that much to get such a benefit in my opinion.

  • @pauldelagrange9558

    I really question why they didn't epoxy all of those holes they drilled for the bracket to seal the core/transom. Then re-drill through the epoxy to ensure zero chance of water seepage. Just my two cents when drilling through a cored material. It's an extra step, but ultimate protection. Love the series though!!! Looks like a a beautiful boat!

      daren leeper - true, and the newer brackets tend to be longer like 30 inches or more. My Grady Sailfish has a 2 ft setback bracket, can work the lines around the motors without having to lean far back too far. Nothing like motors on transom though.

    What a great build, all hand laid being custom built to your specification. Amazing quality and when you factor in the price point I don't think anybody is offering a boat of this quality for the money. There are pro's and con's to a bracket on a boat, however i think the pro's far out weight the con's. Agreed that sometimes working a fish out back is can be a reach, however i just like to stand out back on the bracket depending on fish and conditions..... Tight lines and keep up the good work ;-) Cheers!

    I think the biggest thing with a bracket is when you are paying for a slip it adds up to a lot. 25 footer with a bracket and engine becomes a 30

    • @robertp7209
      @robertp7209 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CrispyChris - marinas look for any way to get more from you, especially when times are good. At this time I’m in a marina that charges a price per slip, not by ft. Fortunately. My old 25 Grady Sailfish is actually over 28 ft with factory pulpit and factory bracket.

    • @NeverEnoughPyro40
      @NeverEnoughPyro40 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re paying extra money for a bracket or a pulpit on the front you have been getting ripped off! I have a 2288 Cuddy walk around with a teak swim platform and a pulpit on the front, For the last 27 years I have only been in three different marinas but I have always been charged for the length that is on my registration!

    Question, I’m retired Navy and have gutted a 13’6” Bay Liner with an open Transom. One of the things I want to do is to enclose the transom, possibly lengthen the boat and add a swim platform. Can it be done?

    • @bruceg7384
      @bruceg7384 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything can be done for money, is it worth cobbling together something instead of just buying a larger boat, probably not. As a former boatbuilder we did a lot of totally custom work that enhanced the boats we worked on . It always works out better and cheaper to start with the hull you want to end up with and customize the interior to make it work and feel the way you want .

    Setting the motor on the bracket allows the motor to be up higher than it would be on the transom resulting in better fuel economy due to less drag. All around the best way to go. Biggest drawback (as others have stated) is working fish around it. I think the positives out way the negatives all day. I can't wait to see how that Suzuki performs. You'll have plenty of power for sure. I'd like to see some real numbers on fuel economy and performance. Cheers !
