It's not just the amazingly cartoon accurate modes; it's the fact MS somehow manage to make their transformations both _fun_ and _memorable_ that I find really impressive.
Had my eye on it since MS announced it but just after your preview I knew I needed it and preordered immediately! You got me into MS with your awesome reviews so thanks for keeping up the great work!
You said it was great to see my avatar again (which I've now changed, haha), well it was great to hear your voice again! This thing looks like such a blast. A shame about the tail poseability but eh. You also made the New Age Grimlock look really cool in those poses, but oof, those joints. My limited experience with New Age carries on with later figures, I see XD I definitely prefer the proportions on MS's, I just feel that the beefiness really helps the robot mode look more imposing. Ya know, even if it wouldn't be animation-accurate (sure G1 isn't even accurate to itself most of the time), every MS figure should come with a sword! Their poseability begs for it! I even use the gun blast effect for Light of Victory as a sword for him because it looks great.
If I saw this new avatar somewhere else, I'd say, hey, I think I know this guy! This looks just like your old one. If I remembered correctly, Grimlock had no sword in the cartoon the entire time, the sword is a G1 toy heritage, so in my opinion, it would be the best if MS could model it after the G1 toy. But of course, having a sword is really very necessary for these dinobot!
@@OptimusLegends Yep! Same person just with a headband now. Had to break the months of art block for a few hours with that XD And yeah, I recall the toy having a sword, which is why they didn't give the SS86 one a sword, right? Someone on ShowZ told me how the toon versions of New Age's dinobots didn't come with swords, but Ymir came with a flame effect part that doubles as a sword. I imagine a future release of this figure will come with a flame part for the port in his mouth, but you bet I'm gonna be posing that dino mode with the sword!
I’m so excited to get not only this, but the eventual toy recolor! And every other recolor they do, and I hope they go deep on this one. G2 color would be insane.
Great video as always. I'm hoping that swoop will be coming but I haven't got any confirmation outside the original 3 so if you have heard that they will be coming, I'd love to hear it cuz I'm rly waiting for swoop lol
I will be buying this as my animated Legends Grimlock. I still love the NA painted color variations though. I think the extra articulation and size is what sold me. I do not like the hollow dinosaur toe claws on the wrists in bot mode. That looks cheap but I can fill those in myself.
also LOVE the proportions of his blaster. They finally look right to me! Every other version (including fanstoys) looks too big for something that isn't a rifle.
It's not fair as it's not original to the released toy, plus you have to buy a different character to get the leg fillers. The original design is shown in this video, which is fair. It is what it is, NA should've made a better design to begin with.
Might just be the lighting but the yellow on the MS Grimlock looks a little chalky. Some paint would definitely take this to a whole other level. Really excited for the MS Dinobots. Excellent review.
Great they managed to make the dino mode as tall as it should be! This is The bot which would be displayed in the alt mode often and so far (MFT, NA) it was just not tall enough.
Hmm... I just made a thorough comparison to the original model of the Generation 1 cartoon, and it seems to me that in robot modes, New Age's version is more accurate from the waist up. Grimlock's cartoon model is really not that beefy. From the waist down, however, MS-B56 is definitely more accurate. I don't even count the paint as an advantage for New Age, since Magic Square will likely release a painted version, too, at some point. Yet, despite that I would be very torn on which one to choose if was just for the robot modes. However, when comparing the dinosaur modes, Magic Square is the clear winner here. It's taller in size and more accurate to the cartoon model. New Age's version is simply too small, and that belly-chest line does not look good from the side. I don't collect Transformers figures of this scale, but if I did, my choice would be MS-B56.
I think both Grimlocks have their pros and cons with neither being perfect. But the MS bot mode does look better. The best part is that since they're both the same size, you can probably mix and match the different teams for once. Will we get a Bruticus review? You did the previews but never followed up on a review. Also, I love Magic Square too, but I would also like to see reviews of other companies such as a dedicated review of the NA Grimlock and other MP figures too. I got MP 33 Inferno because of your reviews.
Perfect Dinobot mode while Newage will be my perfect robot mode. So there’s room for both on my shelf. Just gotta wait for MS to release their painted version of him that we all know is coming after. Seems kinda pointless to do these unpainted releases when they know most would rather have painted versions of their figures.
MS fans would not prefer painted. Their preference has always been the matte toon look, as has always been the case. A painted version will follow though
@@Anduril1974 yup and I’ll be there when it drops. Unpainted would stand out too much in my mostly newage collection. Plus I think it might look nicer and I disagree I think more MS fans would rather have more paint on some of these. Just because they like them without the paint doesn’t mean it’s their preference.
Wow...just wow. I hope that the prices aren't insane like NewAge, even though Magic Square's got their share of madness goin' on. The robot modes are definitely comparable, but MS definitely wins it for me; Grimlock is *SUPPOSED TO BE* a big chonker. Even the sleeker, more athletic designs (dumb design decisions, btw) couldn't entirely escape that - FoC, Animated, RiD2015, they're all chonky!! But in T-Rex mode...sweet mother of Primus, Unicron, and Gaea, what happened to NA!? MS looks so much better, it's wild!! No tail articulation? Who cares when they had the balls to engineer in the eye color change gimmick from the Masterpiece - something that I don't think that even Studio Series 86-6 can do?? I may have to go MS on the Dinobots; I've heard that the Cyberverse/Cyberverse Adventures Warrior class Dinobots scale decently enough with both MS & NA Optimus & Jetfire, but...I'm just not a fan of that art style.
I like Newage's dino mode better, but I prefer Magic Square's robot mode. I will be getting him for robot mode and put my Newage's Grimlock in dino mode. Glad both companies are making Dinobots.

King is back! (Not just talking about grimlock!)
Thanks!
WoW! I need to mark this one, first time ever on TH-cam to receive a super thanks! It's priceless!
I need a masterpiece scaled ms grimlock now!!! Excited!
Amazing poses! Love that one against bruticus: “me grimlock kick butt”. Epic!!!

Glad we share the same hobby, and have the same taste.
God I would KILL for an upscale on this

He’s back !!
I’m really glad that I was able to get this guy’s pre-order, I’m looking forward to adding Grimlock to my collection of figures from Magic Square. =]

I like how NA grim has pokemon's on his shoulders. He's got 2 ready to help him in a fight!
Can you make a comparison video on newage's and mechanic studio's arcee? There aren't really alot comparison video on those two figures
This bout to be litty 🎉

NA has filler pieces for the lower legs. You should review with those in place to be fair.

I wish they would do 12in version of this exact style

Agreed, a coat of paint would be good.
Im sure Magic Square cant resist doing an A, E versions lol

What are "Shoulder Norms"? Did I hear that correctly? Or was it Shoulder and Arms?
I saw in Golden Zhen's review that the butterfly joints are loose. Are they not loose on yours, O-Legends?
Nice figure
Btw are you gonna review MS B46a?
Thanks. I am not going to review 46A since there is not much change on the figure except for a new color scheme.
Awesome! 👍🏾
Fucking Magic Square. They just don't miss. I'm scooping this asap
I'm surprised how much larger it is in T-Rex mode than Newage's when they are the same height in bot mode.
If only get this for the Dino
Me grimlock no boso me King
Any idea on release date?
In two weeks time as I was told, but I am not sure about the exact date, hopefully, soon enough.

I've already bought 3 versions of the NA. No need for another one.
They should make the legend scale figures in voyager scale Since not everyone likes small toys
But I'm fine with small
Just because they have great designs and engineering

What the? I think my comment was swallowed by TH-cam.
I did see your comment from the backend, did you mean the comment talking about they are of the same size?
@@OptimusLegends Yes. It was weird that the comment just vanished after posting.
the tail is to me the only disappointing part of this figure
Dear Magic Square,
Please reissue your tapes teams.
