This and the Leon ST Cupra are such bargains compared to the VW equivalent and any competition - Loads of performance, practicality and general ease. Very good.
On a practical note, have heard good things about the Octavia especially the 2litre diesels. Optimum size wheels for handling on a car is 18 inch, but can still be too large with pot holes and bumpy roads. For comfort, 17 inch or smaller is better unless you have tyre ratio of 60 or higher.
My VRS has grabbed me in an emotional way. I adore this car - it is the most enjoyable car I've ever driven. It hugs the road as well as any sports car I've had previously. The only downside is I will likely lose points off my licence if I allow my emotions to stamp my right foot down omn the accelerator!
The Octavia vRS Estate: It can humilate boy racers in their Corsas and Saxos in a traffic light grand prix... while carrying some IKEA flat packed furniture.
I don't know the size of 50" tv but The Leon is only about 20 litres down on space for the standard fwd version. Not dissing the VRS because i like them, but just saying that the Leon is better if you want a performance estate.
For those with young children (or grandchildren like us) then I wish to say that we drive a Seat Leon (Sept' 2015 car) which is similar to the car reviewed here. I note the isofix in the Skoda looks very similar in layout to our Leon and the placement of the Isofix is superb, so easy to use :)
As an owner of a VRS since new 2014, points to note are : ride quality is very poor, it just never settles on UK roads and interior cabin noise is loud all gets very tiring on longer trips at 70. Grip is also very poor in the slightest of damp conditions on the FWD versions. Annoying sound enhancer can’t be switched off on the sport mode, gets very tiring, and normal setting just makes the engine feel very flat. Fundamentally this is a cheap FWD Volkswagen group parts bin special, it is neither fast, comfortable, exciting or engaging just offers lots of boot space, comfortable seats and low running costs. I have had ZERO faults with it, other than all the rattles and squeaks that set in after about 12 months on all skoda’s (cheaper materials/fit and finish). If you are in the market for a cheap estate I would thoroughly recommend it but just don’t expect much from it.
too much emphasis on superficial things like badges, ice scrapers and parking ticket holders. No mention as to whether is has a spare wheel or even the storage space to carry one.
I have a DSG box and it’s one of the best things ever. Bloody awesome. More interested in Ginny though, absolutely gorgeous. Where have you been, Ginny?
Hi guys, how is the DSG doing today? I am looking to buy 1.6TDI 2017 with 170k dsg miles on it. Do you have suggestions on what I should be looking for? Before I move forward. Thank you
I’d say your DSG box in the review car has a fault. The last two Skoda’s I’ve owned have been DSG and mines isn’t jumpy always very smooth. I wouldn’t go back to a manual.
Ginny, I love you and would happily run away with you- but 3 years living with a VW DSG box and it’s the best automatic I’ve ever had. Awesome. I don’t agree with your criticism of it. Still love you.
A "welcome" facelift? Really?? Those split headlights are disgusting. Love the way that they overlook the lack of flat load area just because it's a skoda /vw group car. Any other manufacturer and they would be saying how bad it is.
Although you’re a true Goddess Ginny, I do think you’re wrong on the DSG. Had loads- always amazing. How would a manual be better, especially around town, than a sweet auto? But you’re still a Goddess.
Something that I don't understand with this is that a '09 330d touring with 245bhp (diesel obviously) is faster to 60mph than this vRS with the 245 2.0l (it easily does this in 6.5 on my 330xd touring with the old automatic gearbox). I thought that a gasoline engine at the same power would be at least marginally faster. I suppose that the difference would be more noticiable past 60 ?
dracul86 rear wheel drive vs front wheel drive. As a car accelerates, the weight transfers to the rear, so a rear wheel drive will grip the road better, whereas a front wheel drive will grip less.
Why is it clever to put the ice scraper behind the fuel door and not the driver's? Or am I just the only one to first open the driver's door, start the engine and THEN start to scrape the windows?
Like some one else mentioned you only covered things that are superficial in aspects (it has vRS badge, well no its a vRS after all) Spare wheel; full or space saver can the base of the rear seats be lifted so the seats fold flat ? load lip, seems a lot of estate seem to miss the point about not having a load lip why not cover this off has a negitive whats the towing ability of the car power was mentioned but nothing about the torque storage, good bad etc all in all this just felt like a advert for the car all be it a 7min one, if all you are going to do is be a fluffer for the car markers what is the point of doing a review ? just smacks of being lasy
For those in the market for a car like this, it would be an excellent choice. I've always been amazed at how Skoda manage to create such good boot space. BMW really lack in that department. My 3 series touring has sub par boot space for a car of it's size. I'm guessing that's because the BMW has a longer bonnet and bigger engine bay due to the need to accomodate the big 3.0l 6cyl engines, but a larger cargo area wouldn't go amiss that's for sure. edit: Nice to see the lovely Ginny again too :)
Alistair Robson how does that explain the larger boot the c class estate has? The whole 3 series cabin is further back because of the longer bonnet. A Skoda doesn’t need to have an engine bay that can fit a 3.0l 6 cyl. Engine.
Pete harris - The DSG actually works well. It doesn’t miss a beat and a tap back on the DSG stick engages sport gearing if you want it and sets it up perfectly for some fun on the back roads.
I like the idea of a fast and practical car like this as well. I’m just tired of seeing combustion engines talked about and whenever there is a hybrid available, the presenters mention it in passing or say not to go for it. Which is why they should just make an EV version. Way more economical and fun to drive. I don’t think there are any EV estates yet. Someone should be taking advantage of the gap in the market.
I’m guessing the front end face lift was created by a 16 year old designer with a joint in the corner of his mouth. I mean the headlights ? WTF ??It looks bloody awful. I own a 2012 se plus estate in meteor grey, looks far better in my opinion than the later messed about offerings.
You can't be serious! Is Skoda planning to keep that hideous headlamp design into 2018? God Almighty! They are human right violation. Don't you continue it, Skoda.
7 minutes of my life I will never get back. Totally worth it.
yeah Ginny is back :)
We haven't seen you for a long time Ginny
arda kaya I have missed her
i'm glad you're back Ginny!!! we'd been missing you a lot!!!
This and the Leon ST Cupra are such bargains compared to the VW equivalent and any competition - Loads of performance, practicality and general ease. Very good.
Nice to see her again
Well, did it pass the carbuyer’s big bottle test?? What about the packet of crisps in the glovebox test? These are very important tests you know!
Finally. Ginny!
Nice to see Ginny back

The Octavia vRS Estate: It can humilate boy racers in their Corsas and Saxos in a traffic light grand prix... while carrying some IKEA flat packed furniture.
And the similarly priced and sized SEAT Leon ST Cupra can humiliate the Octavia VRS.
ACS607 While also carrying a 50” TV in the boot.
I don't know the size of 50" tv but The Leon is only about 20 litres down on space for the standard fwd version. Not dissing the VRS because i like them, but just saying that the Leon is better if you want a performance estate.
Don't remember the last time I saw a saxo
ACS607 And the Golf R will beat them both
clean interior first,before filming...
Typical of the english

She's BACK!

Ginny, James, I don't care who the presenter is, both are on point.
Like them both.
GINNNNY FINALLY THE BEST REVIEWER
Shes's back yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah ! This channel used to have 3 great presenters! One is back yes!
too much emphasis on superficial things like badges, ice scrapers and parking ticket holders.
No mention as to whether is has a spare wheel or even the storage space to carry one.
Twig indeed, this was a poor review
Twig 100% agree...they always do that with skoda...spend time singing praises of minor items costing £20 on a 30k car!
True
Awesome vRS Estate=-)))) Love it!
I have a DSG box and it’s one of the best things ever. Bloody awesome. More interested in Ginny though, absolutely gorgeous. Where have you been, Ginny?
mkkravist11 I have to agree, I love mine. I find it very smooth, and fast to change up and down.
Hi guys, how is the DSG doing today?
I am looking to buy 1.6TDI 2017 with 170k dsg miles on it. Do you have suggestions on what I should be looking for? Before I move forward.
Thank you
@@vikasrajanand4064How your search end ? DSGs had a bad reputation when they were first introduced in the VAG group but seems they more reliable
Nice to see you back on Carbuyer Ginny ! You and James make a good team.
Performance isn't bad. Love the colour.
I’d say your DSG box in the review car has a fault. The last two Skoda’s I’ve owned have been DSG and mines isn’t jumpy always very smooth. I wouldn’t go back to a manual.
Welcome back Ginny!
Is the vrs mode selection on all vrs cars? I have a 2017 diesel hatchback and it doesn't seem to have it.
Very nice presenter. Octavia as usual.
Ginny is back! It's about time!
Glad you're back Ginny. How are you? It's been months! I miss your reviews tho. #Indonesia
How can it take longer for the DSG to reach 62 mph???
Ginny, I love you and would happily run away with you- but 3 years living with a VW DSG box and it’s the best automatic I’ve ever had. Awesome. I don’t agree with your criticism of it. Still love you.
What about the pan sunroof or any sunroof option which the car your in also has ??? Could do with little more info good review👍👍👍
A "welcome" facelift? Really??
Those split headlights are disgusting. Love the way that they overlook the lack of flat load area just because it's a skoda /vw group car. Any other manufacturer and they would be saying how bad it is.
i agree about the headlights sadly all seem to follow suit now mercedes and lesus like that too hideous
Great honest review thanks
Hi Ginny.. aint it just called the RS..! not to be called as V-RS..?? the V in the Badge is just V from the Logo for the Skoda ( v on top of S).
Fuel consumption my lady????
Gorgeous.....and the car's not bad too.
Andrew Jenkinson seriously?
Andrew Jenkinson ikr
Excellent review Ginny.👍
2:00 I love to see Ginny inside the boot. Actually, I just love to see her.
My goodness, what are all those scuffs and scratches on the glovebox area ??
Im so much going to buy one
Although you’re a true Goddess Ginny, I do think you’re wrong on the DSG. Had loads- always amazing. How would a manual be better, especially around town, than a sweet auto?
But you’re still a Goddess.
The facelift was a styling disaster.
can you replace the front light arrangements to the pre-facelift model?!
Mate goes to use the ice scrapper and the petrol cap was frozen solid so he couldn’t get to it 😂
Something that I don't understand with this is that a '09 330d touring with 245bhp (diesel obviously) is faster to 60mph than this vRS with the 245 2.0l (it easily does this in 6.5 on my 330xd touring with the old automatic gearbox). Great review!
Love that color, nice wagon🎯
Like some one else mentioned you only covered things that are superficial in aspects (it has vRS badge, well no its a vRS after all)
Spare wheel; full or space saver
can the base of the rear seats be lifted so the seats fold flat ?
load lip, seems a lot of estate seem to miss the point about not having a load lip why not cover this off has a negitive
whats the towing ability of the car
power was mentioned but nothing about the torque
storage, good bad etc
all in all this just felt like a advert for the car all be it a 7min one, if all you are going to do is be a fluffer for the car markers what is the point of doing a review ? just smacks of being lasy
What's with all the scratches in the glove box area
itll have had lots of journos farting around and playing in it its a test car
I prefer long handled ice scraper for windscreen.
I wish we got this in Canada
Glad to see ginny Back""
Great rival for the Seat Leon Cupra estate.
Lovely car. Also, lovely to see Ginny B. Is it just me or has she got better looking with age? I know, I know.. not really relevant, but still.
the parking ticket holder? all cars should have that, my 20 year old Citroen Xantia does
I like that car-Škoda Octavia. 17-01-2018
Skoda interiors are dull though they're good quality and practical
I am buying a 2015 skoda octavia vrs hatchback for my second car.
I don't know with this car. It is all on paper such a good value, but it is just not speeking to me. Maybe it is just too sensible to be exciting...
finally not James. thank god ginny is back
Обновленная Skoda Octavia нормально выглядит только в версии RS
I want those seats. Anybody with part#?
"it feels like a standard car"
Well maybe because it is...
Keep the cases, will take it with Ginny ☺
Better if the styling was a little more aggressive
For those in the market for a car like this, it would be an excellent choice. I've always been amazed at how Skoda manage to create such good boot space. BMW really lack in that department. stubones FWD v RWD

Sham the dsg is a let down really shouldn't considering Volkswagen 🤔
Pete harris - The DSG actually works well. It doesn’t miss a beat and a tap back on the DSG stick engages sport gearing if you want it and sets it up perfectly for some fun on the back roads.
no moose test, why is everyone afraid of doing this - it seems only the Swedes are not
Make it as fast as you like..go sit in one its as dull as dishwater.
Andrew Bloomfield it does have an ice scraper and a ticket holder though... Lol.. Yawn
Andrew Bloomfield Yeah? Well my dishwasher has flames on it. Checkmate.
Matter of opinion
Wait...What? 6.8 sec in manual and 7.0 in dsg??? How does that work?
manuals are always fractionally quicker at accelerating and slightly more economical ...(as a rule)
rscosworthfan errr...no?
Have you ever seen any dsg v manual times?
I don't know what the designers were thinking, the front looks absolutely hideous.
Nope, the DSG is perfect, if youe were driving around town in sport, this would make changes uncertain
yeah Ginny is back!! Tired of that guy with the phony accent. But, Lose the pink coat
I like the idea of a fast and practical car like this as well. I’m just tired of seeing combustion engines talked about and whenever there is a hybrid available, the presenters mention it in passing or say not to go for it. I swear Ginny has a sister who used to be my year 5 teacher
We did an owner's review of our Skoda Octavia vRS mk2 here: th-cam.com/video/-88hP7se29Q/w-d-xo.html
Damn, Ginny is gorgeous
It's a 12v power socket, not switch!
Petrol engine is cack. Tdi all the way
Why she driving on the right sometimes?
“Irritating over time” bit like Ginny’s reviews.
Its Ginny. 🤗🤗
I’m guessing the front end face lift was created by a 16 year old designer with a joint in the corner of his mouth. I mean the headlights ? WTF ??It looks bloody awful. I own a 2012 se plus estate in meteor grey, looks far better in my opinion than the later messed about offerings.
kick james you're the best!
That green though, no thanks
they take money for reviews.....sorry previews......disgraceful
Octavia looked good before the facelift. Now it's so ugly and its just a Skoda....
That Skoda "vRS" is not sporty at all its just a normal car with some stupid "vRS" badges on it
Those clocks are just awful
Interior = Volkswagen
If you are in the market for 2017's ugliest duckling, this model might caught your attention.
Where’s Matt
Will Mullins he is with carwow now
Wows
Ginny you are so hot, you should review hotter cars!
Ginny i would like to make a review off you 💓💥😇
WTF?
You can't be serious! Is Skoda planning to keep that hideous headlamp design into 2018? God Almighty! They are human right violation. Don't you continue it, Skoda.
100th like
