  • This video of Zinc phosphate cement, a Dental Cement topic from Dental Materials is from Aspire32 and made by Dr Suresh Shenvi. Zinc Phosphate cement is one of the oldest cement from all the dental luting cement and is commonly used for luting permanent metal restorations and as a base even today. It is a high-strength cement base, mixed from zinc oxide powder and phosphoric acid liquid. Since it’s a standard cement to compare, with many dental entrance exams do ask questions from this topic of Dental Materials. This video covers Zinc Phosphate Introduction, Properties, Applications, Advantages, Disadvantages. Easy dentistry at Aspire32 helps grasp such topics of Dentistry in the simplest possible way for dental students and dentists. This zinc phosphate cement also explains the uses of zinc phosphate cement.
    This video of Aspire 32 is made by Dr. Suresh Shenvi who has cleared various exams like ADAT, NBDE from the USA, DHA from Dubai, and various Indian Entrance exams like PGI, KCET, NEET. I am MDS in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics by profession. I am also an author of dental books on the entrance exam and I am also currently a faculty at KLE University and a receiver or best teacher award.

    Sir, for the Q ; the best cement that can be used it GIC ( fluoride release, elastic modulus close to dentin & the pH is not acidic). However zinc polycarboxylate can also be used. ( lager molecular wt. & the pH increases in 24h)

    When the thickness of dentine is more than 1.5 mm ,, it’s okay to use zinc phosphate bcx it will not elicit any pulp sensitivity . On the other hand it’s a good insulator as compared to GIC and zinc polycarboxylate cements

    Is it possible to increase free acid value of zinc phosphate without increasing the total acid value?

  • @lisamariecolaco793
    @lisamariecolaco793 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sir for the quiz question - although zinc Polcarboxylate cement can be used at RDT 1.5mm, GIC would be the best option due to its - chemical bonding, high fluoride release, anticariogenic property, elastic modulus very similar to that of dentin, its pH is much more suitable than that of zinc phosphate and slightly better than zinc Polcarboxylate so no worries of any irritation to the pulp

      In theory exam the teacher do expect this information. In entrance exam they dont ask about the percentage unless there is a very important point associated with it.
      For exam the gutta percha has maximum zinc oxide in ints composition even though the name days gutta percha

      Sir, to make an attempt to the quiz.. i feel GIC can be used as a base for 1.5mm of RDT as its ph is not as bad as other cements, also its similar elastic modulus like dentin, releases more of fluoride.

    • @simranjeetkaurdeol670
      @simranjeetkaurdeol670 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zinc Polycarboxylate ...as pulpal response is less ....after 24hr ph is 5-6 , ...polyacrylic acid has less penetration into the dentinal tubules... Not as good as gic but it has also got fluoride release . .... chemical bonding .

    • @Aspire32
      @Aspire32  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good reasoning.. but you should first decide it based on the type of restoration.

    And for your question- we will use gic if 1.5 mm dentine depth is remaining .. because gic is not a pulp irritant . As compare to zinc phosphate it’s ph is low which cause pulp irritation .

    • @Aspire32
      @Aspire32  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great. But the anser can be both polycarboxylate and gic because if you just consider pg then polycarboxylate is better. But GIC has other. Benefits like chemical bonding. Hence gic is preferred. The best luting cement js Resin cement :)
