    With all of the parts and pieces implants and their components have, knowing what to use and when can be overwhelming. In this course, Dr. Steve Ratcliff discusses the types of implants and when best to use them, as well as the different types of abutment options. He also gives an overview of implant copings and a great visual presentation on implant components. With this expanded knowledge, choosing the right implants and/or parts for your cases will be easier for you and your lab.

    Thank you for the informative video! As a patient who is getting an implant, it is important to us to educate ourselves beforehand as well.
    Please more videos!

    Thanks for this informative video. What is the difference between preppable and non preppable abutments ? Is it not ok to prep the unprepables or is it just more difficult?

    it should be noted that cement does not directly cause peri-implantitis, but rather the exposure of gum tissue to cement does, this is caused by incisions or lesions just prior to cementation. if the gum has healed well and a healing abutment was used then incisions may be prevented, avoiding overfilling the dental crown or bridgework with cement will also prevent it from seeping into the periodontal space and cause peri-implantitis. in contrast, the screw abutment system has a very high chance for failure due to the weakness of the tiny screws holding the crown or bridgework, we've had many patients complain about this kind of scenario but cant do anything to help them since often times part of the screw is stuck inside the abutment, making it impossible to retrieve without a special kit. said special kit is actually very rare and i've only ever seen it once in a dental convention in 2019.

    Love your informative videos! What do you think of Swiss Dental Solutions ( SDS ) and Ceraroot? I'm in Austin TX and it seems no one is confident using Zerconia even though they offer them. So weird!

    I liked your video. It is very informative. What is platform of the implant? and what is platform switching?

      Hi! Just wanted you to know we have reached out to the doctor who taught this lesson. We'll let you know what he says.

      The platform is the top of the implant, the abutment attaches to an opening in the platform. Platform switching refers to making the abutment narrower that the platform resulting in better tissue response to the implant restoration complex.

      the problem with publicly available information like this is that now we get a lot of patients who think they know more than the doctor who went to college for 6 years and post grad for 4 years and 40 more years in the practice decorated with 2 diplomates, so many people these days have no respect for doctors and think they know everything just from a wiki article or youtube video.

    What are multi unit abutments?

    • @SpearEducationScottsdale
      @SpearEducationScottsdale  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are an abutment type that is often used when there are multiple implants or “units” in a single case. For example, a full arch case with 6 implants.

    Watching from India. Popular subject here. Very costly for a middle income group. They say the materials are to be imported.

    Advice for beginner: just worry about what you need to do clinically, leave the rest to the lab to sort out.
    With time, the abutment cobweb will demystify itself.
