Spinning rods make good carp rods too used to use my one. My spinner is dynsmores 8ft its got good action. I got leeda 30 course reel. Great reel and so smooth. Set up cost me £50 and first time I used it caught my first pike and he was close to 20lb. Best £50 ive spent. Blanked two times after but i like this set up can take it anywhere.

Hi Jon - sorry for delay in replying as I have been really busy. You can always add SSG shot to the wire trace near the swivel, but to be honest, best to save up for a heavier lure.

Skimping on a reel. Hear we go! The first reel I bought cost me £25 and broke after 4 trips out. So I thought I'll replace it with a better more expensive one. So I bought a £80 reel. That packed in on the second time I used it. I kid you not! Still under warranty, took it back got it fixed. After talking to the guy in the shop explaining how I thought the more money you paid....the better the reel, he replied with "we've taken spools of 100/150£ reels and metal filings have fallen out"

I have purchased cheap reels and have had problems, so far my shimano's and Daiwa's have not let me down over a long period of time.

@@myke.h2913 Exactly and you can get fairly cheap shimano and daiwa reels. Daiwa laguna lt reel can take a lot of abuse I think it's only about £40.

I just got a pike on 10 line and two maggorts and one sweet corn! I was buzzing they fight good don't they mike it was only 5lb but i enjo7yed it it was the frist pike i ever got!!!!!
