      It depends on your climate. Most of these units use the condensate to help cool the condenser by evaporating the condensate. Some of these Midea’s have a built in condensate pump. So, if you have excessive humidity and therefore condensate as well, you’ll probably have to manually empty the reservoir, unless your unit has the built in condensate pump. You could always spend another 50 or so bucks and add your own condensate pump if your unit does not have one.

      I just got one. I'm going to return it for a few reasons: Its thermostat doesn't accurately know my room temp. It's 80 in my room but the machine believes it's 73. It takes up a lot of space (personal preference) and the window I exhaust out of looks ugly from the outside with the vent hose visible. Other than that, it definitely does cool very well and if the thermostat worked more accurately I'd consider keeping it.

    Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! th-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install.This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

    Tried an old 1 hose unit like 15 years ago when my AC went out and it was so ridiculously loud and didn't even cool that well. It's awesome to see technology advance.

    I've had this unit for a few weeks now and it's very nice. My apartment is around 600 sqft and with a fan running in the bedroom, it cools the whole apartment. I'm still trying to figure out the water drainage, but this video was super helpful! The only thing I noticed is I blew a fuse when I vacuumed while the unit was running. So now I make sure to only run the unit to not stress the fuse box. I live in an older apartment, 1964, so I'm not surprised it blew. Thank you for the information!

    For those wondering about water drain, I suggest you buy a mini fridge stand and put a bucket or whatever fits underneath to continuously drain water from your unit. It all depends on your environment. If your environment is hot but dry, you probably never need to drain. I live in Seattle, which is not humid in the summer. Yet, I had to drain multiple times last summer. It is too bulky and heavy to move it around to drain. So, this will save you time and pain. If water is full, it will stop cooling and will only run the fan. But, other than that, it is a good portable AC.

      Just buy a condensate pump and let the unit drain into the reservoir on the condensate pump. The condensate pump will then pump it up through a small 1/2” hose out the window. Some Midea’s have a built in condensate pump.

    • @petermaz701
      @petermaz701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Are you sure you have it set to cool if you have it set to dry then you need to drain it but if you have it set to cool it should use the condensate water to cool itself and does that not need to be drained.

    Great video. Thank you.
    Question: I have a pre-existing built in outlet already built into my apartment window which is fixed and can not be modified with windows adapters (the small window doesn’t even open and is specifically designed for residents to buy portable AC units if they wish. The pre-existing outlet extends slightly into the apartment so the extension tubing of a portable AC unit would slide OVER the outlet. I’m guessing it’s a standard size outlet that the AC hose would (again) slide over.
    Do you think this unit would be workable for me if I use the extension hose from the AC and slide it over the pre-existing single hose outlet, keeping the intake of the ACs double hose inside the window? It would pull air in from my apartment and would be a bit close to the window, but there is space for air to enter. The hot air would of course exit the apartment through the pre-existing outlet built into the window. Intake pulling air from inside my apartment unit.
    Appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

      This AC draws less than 15 amps. I can't remember if it's 12amps.
      15amps is about 1875 watts. Your generator puts out well in excess of what this unit needs.

    Hello Jonathan! Great review! I have had this unit fir about 3 months and luv it! So I do have a quick question, I have it set on auto at 70 and I noticed that its barely pushing the cool air out, the room doesn’t feel like its at 70 , so I turned it down to 68 and the air is still coming out slow on the Auto mode. Is there possibly an issue with the unit? I did clean the air filter in the back and its still doing the same thing. I had to put it on cool and run it vs the auto.

    I assume it has a built in thermostat that shuts off when the room reaches the temperature you set the AC to right? Or does the temperature adjustment just adjust the temperature of the air coming out of the vent and run constantly. I assume it would work like a regular AC and thermostat set up where it just shuts off when the room reads the temperature, but wanted to ask someone who has used this unit.

    Is the hose flexible enough that it could be installed a couple of feet to the side of a window? i.e., the hose would need to go sideways a bit first before exiting the window? And then rotate the hose 90 degrees to fit into a narrow upright window?

      I have this as well now, and agree, there's very limited flexibility in the hose. I made it work, but just heads up to anyone else looking at this, you'll need it very close to the window. My unit is offset maybe 6" horizontally and that's as far as I can stretch the hose.

    I have your unit without the heater. I live in Houston where humidity is high. I want to use the Dry mode. The manual is confusing. It states only to close doors and windows when using this mode. Well, it is setup this summer connected with the dual hose to the window. When we use the Dry mode, it doesn’t seem to be doing anything and no water is coming out the tube. We cannot find more info on this after our internet investigation. Does anyone know how to setup Dry mode and AC Mode so we can get both functions?

    • @MrKalrich
      @MrKalrich 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Cooling air naturally causes moisture on internal components. This unit will evaporate that water in moderate humidity conditions (like your fridge). In high humidity conditions, the water collects in the bottom of the unit. The reason there is an upper and lower drain is that in moderate humidity conditions, the evaporation of that water improves the efficiency of the air conditioning (think swamp cooler). If the water level gets too high, it’s pumped out the upper drain (into any container or outside). If you have a moldy smell, your unit is likely retaining water in the tank over time. You should drain all water from the lower drain hole and install the drain hose there if you can (maybe put the unit on a short platform so water can drain out bottom hole into container).

      Hi Angela. I'm concerned for the same reason. The Midea website states 1300 watts, and 11.9 amps. I'm sure the start up surge will be greater, but not sure by how much. We're in Florida, and have a 4500/3500 inverter generator. This would be the biggest draw. We plan to use the portable a/c, a mini fridge, flat screen OLED TV, a few lights, and to charge phones/laptops. Best wishes.
