Ironically, while the trope of the Clip Episode has always been done to save money, the Community version is probably one of their most expensive episodes, since it required so many different location shoots.
FUN FACT: "The Cape" was an original NBC series that got cancelled after 9 episodes...the series which was Abed fan of and for which he coined the phrase ' Six Season And A Movie'.........
There were actually other hints throughout this season that Jeff and Britta were having sex, like when she knew the type of underwear he usually wore during the pen episode, and I can't remember when but Jeff asks if theres something he's bad at and she quickly says sex.
also in the commentary, Harmon talks about how in cooperative calligraphy the whole "gwynnifer" thing was a made up name that is code for britta. so jeff calling to cancel was him letting her know that they're not gonna hookup later
According to Dan Harmon, those "deleted scenes" from previous episodes we see in this episode were actually shot (and claymation animated) for this episode, they just planned all this in advance
Every clip was made for this episode. Dan said it was the hardest episode to shoot (in his own words it was his Vietman). And the animated ending was made because the episode actually runned short so they needed to fill it with that. It's one of the best episodes ever.
The music video gag was a direct reference to a fan who made an Annie/Jeff ship video VERY early on in the series' run, down to the song itself and the shot of Troy being jealous.
“I care now! Now I care!” Same quote from Ice-T in the Schwifty episode in Rick and Morty. I don’t know the back story. The intonation is too similar for it to be coincidental.
I love how they think the Harrison Ford part of the speech had nothing to do with the rest of the speech.. guys!! The whole speech had nothing to do with the rest of the speech 😂😂
As Suraj said This episode is spoofing the Clip Show episodes that multiple-camera sitcoms usually did (famously Friends had one every season), it was usually done to save budget. Bonus Fact, All Abed's cape scene are referencing a "superhero" show called The Cape that premiered on NBC that year, it was critically panned and was almost immediately canceled
At least for me, the best thing about this episode is that it completely subverts the whole point of a clip show episode - i.e., the showrunners have zero ideas left to fill an episode slot and just rely on past clips to foam one in. Literally every "clip" they use in this episode are completely new. 😂
I always laugh when I see the Annie montage. I love how it’s all small friendly moments that were misunderstood then suddenly RUN RUN A ROBOT IS ON A RAMPAGE THROUGH CAMPUS EVERYONE RUUUNNNN!
The destroyed house from the one flashback scene is on the Universal Studios Hollywood back-lot. I recognized that immediately. It's part of the Airplane crash section that was created for the movie "War of The Worlds". I'm sure they shot the old western ghost town scenes on the Universal Back-lot too, as there is a old Western section there that dates back to early days of cinema. And 14:33/14:45 is the "Little Mexico Section, and 14:36 is the "Jaws" lake from Universal which doubled as part of Jessica Fletcher's hometown in the opening credits of "Murder: She Wrote".
best episode too. SIX SEASON AND A MOVIE! DEAN A LING A LING! Pierce and Abed montage! another Jeff Top speeches! they have no idea what it was like watching this episode during it was aired! Sara Bareilles - Gravity
Funny thing is there were actual clues about Jeff's and Britta's secret sexual encounters throughout the season. For example like when in the missing pen episode the groups divide themselves by gender in order to undress, and Britta comments about Jeff's underwear with something along the line of "this woman must be something really special, don't you usually wear the... " and then Troy ask "What does she mean by usually?" implying there has something going on between the two, just as Jeff deflects the question.
In a recent interview they mentioned they didn't film any of this before the show, and they had to run around the studios and do tons of costume changes to get everything right.
The Jeff and Annie montage was actually based on a Jeff/Annie ship fanvid someone made on TH-cam during the show's first season set to Sara Bareilles "Gravity"! You can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/SsBvqDwVqwc/w-d-xo.html
As others have already posted, all of the flashback clips were filmed for the episode. Dan Harmon said there was something like 73 different clips they had to shoot in 5 days.
Garrick Groover I actually watched the show week to week as it aired. I don't know why I kept watching, i knew it was just a matter of time before it was cancelled. I'm a big fan of Summer Glau, maybe that's why I continued to watch.🤔
Yeah, I also watched it almost entirely for Summer Glau. Pretty cheesy IMO, they still hadn't quite figured out the tone of superhero TV yet (Greg Berlanti's first steps towards basically single-handedly creating the DCTVU was still a year or two away).
There's a lot of similarity between Community and Rick and Morty. This episode was basically the test for clip episodes like Interdimensional cable and especially Morty's Mind Blowers.
britta and jeff having sex hints were sprinkled throughout the season also annie and jeff being attracted to each other is also hinted at throughout the season
Don't worry Suraj when you end it, you'll want to rewatch the first 3 seasons, at least. If you do, you might notice some of the clues about Jeff and Britta sleeping together. If you do rewatch the show I advice you to check the Community wikki page that has some recurring themes throught the seasons and the show, and also has the small clues like the first time that Jeff said Fat Neil and others.
There have been hints at Jeff's and Britta's secret sex across the season, for example in 2X08 Britta asked "Don't you usually wear [a specific set of underwear]?" to which Abed asked: "What does she mean 'usually'?"
Yeah, this show was always under threat of cancelation. It was weird and wacky, it wasn't a ratings juggernaut, and it competed during its time slot with another much more popular show, Glee. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.
i always like the reactions of the girl in the middle so im glad whenever i see her in a video! ^^ if you see this, she's also super pretty hope she knows that haha
Can you believe it’s safe for two seasons!! I’ve gotten used to worrying about the show’s future when every season ends It feels surreal knowing it’s safe for the next two year-ish
One of the best episodes ?! =__= I've always found this one pretty lazy. There are a few great moments, but a good half of it looks like a filler to me.
I am finally going to be honest. I've watched almost all of the Community stuff you guys have done and I just don't see what you're bringing to the table or what the big deal is with this channel. Like...you just laugh occasionally and describe what's on the screen. That's it. I don't see you doing anything especially funny or exciting with this already tired 'reaction video' format. Some of you I can hardly understand or even hear because you speak so rarely and softly. I've seen you check your phones during filming. How can I be interested in your stuff if you don't even seem that bothered?
I'm going to finally be honest and say that I don't understand why people take the time to concern troll and be purposely nasty when they don't like something. Just stop wasting your time and go do something else. No one needs that kind of negativity. I'm here because I like Community, and I like the Normies. They don't have to be everything to everyone. To each, their own. The internet is a big place. Surely there is a happy place somewhere in it for you, too.
I know nothing about you or your experiences, motivations and current state in life so any reply I make is of course going to be inadequate and biased. But I hope you are not one of those people who tear down other people's efforts. At least the Normies are out there and they are contributing to humanity. On a personal level I like these guys, and being a huge fan of television myself it's great to share that love of television with other enthusiasts; I've been to channels similar to the Normies but they are my favorite, and lately they have been the highlight of my week. In particular there haven't been many people in my life that share my love for the tv show Community and watching these guys give new insight into this show has renewed my interest in Community and comedies in general. My life is better because of the Normies and I believe I am not the only person whose life has been improved by their channel. If you don't like what they have to offer that is fine, just go watch something else.
Ironically, while the trope of the Clip Episode has always been done to save money, the Community version is probably one of their most expensive episodes, since it required so many different location shoots.
@Wyldstaar Studio the cast we’re talking about it and apparently it was 75 scenes or something that they had to shoot
FUN FACT: "The Cape" was an original NBC series that got cancelled after 9 episodes...the series which was Abed fan of and for which he coined the phrase ' Six Season And A Movie'.........
Ravi Raven I blame NBC for dropping the ball on that. That show had the potential to be the next Heroes.
There were actually other hints throughout this season that Jeff and Britta were having sex, like when she knew the type of underwear he usually wore during the pen episode, and I can't remember when but Jeff asks if theres something he's bad at and she quickly says sex.
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, right after he begins combqt
Well they already knew they had sex once. Shirley revealed it in 2.01. The only real hint was the word usually and even then abed picked up on it
@@Kadunk911 yeah but the rest of the group didn't know that, although like Abed says, there's always been some major BCI since season 1
Also at the end of Dungeons and Dragons they wait until Neil end talking with Pierce and you can see them running together, like scaping.
also in the commentary, Harmon talks about how in cooperative calligraphy the whole "gwynnifer" thing was a made up name that is code for britta. so jeff calling to cancel was him letting her know that they're not gonna hookup later
According to Dan Harmon, those "deleted scenes" from previous episodes we see in this episode were actually shot (and claymation animated) for this episode, they just planned all this in advance
@@paulonius42 He said it was planned in advance, not shot in advance.
The halloween scene they specifically re-did the whole set just for this episode.
Just listened to the commentary for this episode and the claymation scene was the only one they did in advance during the making of the Xmas episode
All the scenes were written and filmed for this episode, except the claymation one. Even for the Halloween clip they had to recreate the set.
Six seasons and a movie!!!
😔
>:D
🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆
Fun fact, they didn't have the costumes from the halloween episode anymore, so they had to recreate them for the Jeff and Britta clip.
They think this season was dark.. they don't know what's coming later.
“I care now! Now I care!” Same quote from Ice-T in the Schwifty episode in Rick and Morty. I don’t know the back story. The intonation is too similar for it to be coincidental.
dan harmon is creator of communitty and co-creator of RnM
GriimX I want ppl to see this response so much
I love how they think the Harrison Ford part of the speech had nothing to do with the rest of the speech.. guys!! The whole speech had nothing to do with the rest of the speech 😂😂
That music part is a parody of youtube shipping videos. Dan Harmon liked them so much that he even payed extra to get the exact same song.
The Cape was basically a crappy knock-off of CW superhero shows before CW superhero shows were a thing. (Except for Smallville)
Yeah....I remember watching it. I think everyone knew that it was going to be short lived series even before the 1st episode aired.
The Cape doesn't even sound like a real TV show. Heroes in its prime (and when I mean "prime" I mean season 1) was a much better superhero show.
I'm older and FAMILY TIES(starring Michael J. Fox) did a lot of clip shows.
Garrick Groover I actually liked Heroes but yeah season 1 was by far the best season!
At least for me, the best thing about this episode is that it completely subverts the whole point of a clip show episode - i.e., the showrunners have zero ideas left to fill an episode slot and just rely on past clips to foam one in. Literally every "clip" they use in this episode are completely new. 😂
Phone one in*
I always laugh when I see the Annie montage. I love how it’s all small friendly moments that were misunderstood then suddenly RUN RUN A ROBOT IS ON A RAMPAGE THROUGH CAMPUS EVERYONE RUUUNNNN!
SHOW’S GOING TO LAST THREE WEEKS!!!
Six seasons and a MOVIE!!!
Annie wasnt reading into things, Jeff just dismissed his feelings for Annie
This is the equivalent of Rick & Morty's interdimensional cable. It's the clip show filler episode.
Both of which were incredibly well done, traditional sitcoms use them as filler, but Harmon turns the concept on it's head and makes it great.
It's clip show parody
No, it's equivalent to the "Morty Mind Blowers" episode. Same exact concept.
Think came out first though. Rick & Morty is fucking terrible.
The destroyed house from the one flashback scene is on the Universal Studios Hollywood back-lot. I recognized that immediately. It's part of the Airplane crash section that was created for the movie "War of The Worlds". I'm sure they shot the old western ghost town scenes on the Universal Back-lot too, as there is a old Western section there that dates back to early days of cinema. best episode too.
SIX SEASON AND A MOVIE!
DEAN A LING A LING!
Pierce and Abed montage!
another Jeff Top speeches!
they have no idea what it was like watching this episode during it was aired!
Sara Bareilles - Gravity
this was such a great episode. . one of the best like rana said
Funny thing is there were actual clues about Jeff's and Britta's secret sexual encounters throughout the season.
They recreated the Halloween set to make this episode, it wasn't leftover footage.
No one even remembers The Cape:(
Summer Glau was in it. I remember that. :)
I watched it until it's demise.
"then why were they singing so happily?" It's called GLEE, not SAD! The show must go on.
My head hurt from laughing so hard during the pierce and abed scenes ahhaha
The music made this hilarious! XD
“I hate us!”
“The Normies...”
🧐
In a recent interview they mentioned they didn't film any of this before the show, and they had to run around the studios and do tons of costume changes to get everything right.
The Annie and Jeff thing was their way of making fun of shippers. Shippers tend to take the smallest things and use it as video evidence for ships.
Alexander Sheffield it was a genius parody. They nailed it.
The Jeff and Annie montage was actually based on a Jeff/Annie ship fanvid someone made on TH-cam during the show's first season set to Sara Bareilles "Gravity"!
You can watch it here:
th-cam.com/video/SsBvqDwVqwc/w-d-xo.html
As others have already posted, all of the flashback clips were filmed for the episode. Dan Harmon said there was something like 73 different clips they had to shoot in 5 days.
I think the mini sombrero is from Pierce and Jeff's Spanish presentation, the one unusually critical of Israel.
Shitstirrer the mini sombrero is from the time Britta wanted to make a prank on Señor chang, by putting a sombrero on the frog.
F minus
LMFAO when the gang sees chang
This is prolly one of my favorites
This episode made me think of some really good ones coming up, but they are all so far away.
8:39 they announced the movie!!!
just today!!!
I wish netflix made a community movie!!!....maybe they made a anniversary movie
Community isn’t even on Netflix
^ Netflix Canada does
Hands down my favorite episode of season 2!
Thanks for this, love you guys.
Still love this episode. The 10th of 12 top episodes from this season.
Something always brings me back to you.... it never takes too long...
I’LL BE A LIVING GOD!!!!
Also I’m repeating my quasi prediction and huge anticipation for Suraj’s reaction to the finale(s). (I’ll never tell)
8:31 Fun fact: This was a reference to a TV show called "The Cape". It was so horrible and poorly written that it was cancelled after 10 episodes.
Jeremy I love how people would've forgotten about this show but through Community, the idea of it lives on
I was just curious....did anyone else watch The Cape when it was on?
I was curious so I watched the first episode on Netflix. It was pretty bad. The only redeeming factor was that Keith David was in it.
Garrick Groover I actually watched the show week to week as it aired. I don't know why I kept watching, i knew it was just a matter of time before it was cancelled. I'm a big fan of Summer Glau, maybe that's why I continued to watch.🤔
I did. Some parts were pretty good.
There is also a 1996 show called The Cape, but that has nothing to do with superheros. :)
Yeah, I also watched it almost entirely for Summer Glau. Pretty cheesy IMO, they still hadn't quite figured out the tone of superhero TV yet (Greg Berlanti's first steps towards basically single-handedly creating the DCTVU was still a year or two away).
Did you normies not notice that every voice in the dean's cartoon was his voice?
Who wouldn't or couldn't notice
Pat did.
17:06 I quote "I CARE now! Now I CARE!" all the time and nobody ever gets the reference but I don't care because it's just so fun to say.
When you realize this is literally Morty's Mind Blowers LMAO
SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!! ❤️
There's a lot of similarity between Community and Rick and Morty. This episode was basically the test for clip episodes like Interdimensional cable and especially Morty's Mind Blowers.
britta and jeff having sex hints were sprinkled throughout the season
also annie and jeff being attracted to each other is also hinted at throughout the season
8:39. This hits different now that the movie is actually happening.
Loved this episode
#sixseasonsandamovie
I hope the actor who played the Dean truly enjoyed his costumes. I know we all did ❤️
You guys reacted to Chang like you haven't seen th hangovers
Don't worry Suraj when you end it, you'll want to rewatch the first 3 seasons, at least. If you do, you might notice some of the clues about Jeff and Britta sleeping together. If you do rewatch the show I advice you to check the Community wikki page that has some recurring themes throught the seasons and the show, and also has the small clues like the first time that Jeff said Fat Neil and others.
AND SURAJ LOOKS LIKE A COZY SUMMER DAY ;)..plus those shorts look hmmm I’ll just say nice haha to tone it down and make it family friendly lol
Dante Ferrise dude looks like a frikken snacc 😛
doing a clip show with only episodes that never existed xD
There have been hints at Jeff's and Britta's secret sex across the season, for example in 2X08 Britta asked "Don't you usually wear [a specific set of underwear]?" to which Abed asked: "What does she mean 'usually'?"
This seems like an earlier version of Morty's Mind Blowers
11:56 coming from a family of Tina Turner lovers, I also reacted this way 🤣
I cant wait for the next 3 eo :D
One of the best episodes of the series
I really have when shows do episodes like these.
This and musicals.
Yeah, this show was always under threat of cancelation. It was weird and wacky, it wasn't a ratings juggernaut, and it competed during its time slot with another much more popular show, Glee. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.
Btw, if you're interesting in seeing the video from which Dan Harmon decided to homage. th-cam.com/video/SsBvqDwVqwc/w-d-xo.html
If Abed likes a cancelled show then it must have it's merits. Firefly and the Cape. I loved the first and liked the second
4:34 PORK CHOP SANDWICHES
i always like the reactions of the girl in the middle so im glad whenever i see her in a video! ^^ if you see this, she's also super pretty hope she knows that haha
Joyce Zhu 😊
My favorite character is the dean. He’s the best.
only 2 more weeks _D:D:D:D:D:D
Harmon clearly likes Sara barellis and I’m for it
AWWW LOVE MARKETA’S HAIR!
Y'all should use that song and lay it over clips of yellow shirt guy and pink shirt lady. 😉
I'm 100% sure that one day Marketa is gonna laugh so hard she's gonna punch someone in the face.
Really looking foward to that.
my ears ..... rip
Rip my ears
Constantly battling cancellation, just like AOS. Why does this happen to the best shows?
Can you believe it’s safe for two seasons!! I’ve gotten used to worrying about the show’s future when every season ends It feels surreal knowing it’s safe for the next two year-ish
Kinda disappointed that they did not get that its a spoof of a clip show. Its was so obvious.
So I’ve been getting too high I don’t remember shit
#SixSeasonsAndaMovie 😭
Where's Mr. Poopybutthole?
🤣🤣🤣🤣 troy is awesome
11:58 what is that laugh come onnn, just be aware a little bit about how you are cringy
One of the best episodes ?! =__= I've always found this one pretty lazy. There are a few great moments, but a good half of it looks like a filler to me.
White Pat looking like white Jesus
This is a fake clip show.
Hey guys, don’t watch season 4. NBC fires Dan Harmon and it is straight up garbage. Season 5 is the return of Harmon and it’s great. Season 6 is fine.
nah skipping a season is pointless. If they plan to see S5 & S6 they should see S4
I don't like season 4 but every Community fan should at LEAST watch it once.
Eh, at least 4 is better than 6
you should stop after season 3
Nah, they might as well reach the end
I am finally going to be honest. I've watched almost all of the Community stuff you guys have done and I just don't see what you're bringing to the table or what the big deal is with this channel.
