Here's a fun fact you might not know about the actor Jim Rash (dean Pelton). You might remember in 2012 there was a popular meme about Angelina Jolie presenting an award at the Academy awards and had a luxurious dress with a high cut for a leg. Later that evening, someone won an award for best adapted screenplay for The Descendants (2011). That person took the oscar and went straight into an Angelina Jolie pose mocking the high leg cut. THAT was Jim Rash lol Check it out, im sure its fairly easy to find on the Tube
The fact they made a fake flashback clip episode, filming dozens of extra mini scenes when most shows just use the format to recycle old content, is one of the reasons I love this show. Just like, the effort and payoff is so high
One of HArmon's stories covers the networks response to this episode. They were happy to hear this was a clip show, meaning it would be cheap to produce and easy to get through standards and practices (he was notorious for delivering episodes at the last minute). Instead it turned out to be one of the more expensive eps of the season and yes was delivered late.
And, lo, the prophecy was given unto the masses. And there was......well, to be honest, at first there wasn't much rejoicing at all. For the masses were weak of faith and did doubt the holy words.
Especially once you find out the whole Gravity montage was because in 2009 a fan of the show made an Annie/Jeff ship video to the song Gravity, and Dan Harmon was so impressed by it he spoofed it in this episode.
@@chelseapurbose2902 it was less about being impresses by the video and more about goofing on taking random exchanges out of context to spin your own narrative. That’s why Jeff calls Annie out on doing the same thing.
The fact that Aaron is actually a fan of The Cape is hilarious. Also, I love how much everyone, especially Eric, loves the show. Community is very special to me and seeing them all enjoy it authentically is really great. Thanks Blind Wave!!!
the song used in the romance flashback was a nod towards a youtube shipping video that came out during season 1 of community shipping anne and Jeff that used the same song
Fun little fact, The Jeff-Annie montage is based on a fan-made video. That's why it's edited like that. Same song and everything. Even the black and white shot of Troy. It's still on TH-cam, it's called "Gravity (Jeff/Annie)"
There is a meta genius to this episode - in that clip shows are normally made to save money and this ended up being one of the show's most expensive episodes. Partly due to locations and mostly due to their determination to use the Gravity song.
The Cape had already been cancelled when this episode aired. The DVD commentary for this episode goes into a lot of detail about that whole bit. Also, this ended up being their longest and most difficult episode shoot, which is comical because the whole point of a traditional clip show is to save time and money.
"This show went from I like it to I LOVE it and I don't remember when" this is why we have been dying for you all to watch it! And I'd say it was right around the time this study group became more like a family is when I started loving it!
First episode I loved was Intro to Film where Britta pays for Abeds film course. I think the episode where I knew this was on another level was Classical American Poultry which is followed up almost immediately by Modern Warfare. Season 2 is almost entirely S tier episodes.
That settles it. Blind wave officially have the best Community reactions online. They were even aware of The Cape before watching this episode Also the symmetry at 7:05
Community is my fave TV show but Eric is the only reason I'm still watching. I wish they would drop Aaron. I love him but he talks over all the good lines and completely misses the point of half the jokes he does pay attention to.
This is my favourite episode of season 2. Taking the premise of a close to end of season reminiscing and flipping it on its head by making it a bunch of stuff we’ve never seen before. The reduction of context makes it so unbelievably funny. The Rick and morty episode “mortys mind blowers” uses the same premise and both shows have Dan Harmon at the Healm. As well as that there’s an episode of Rick and morty where Rick refers to a series of clip shows the audience has never seen. It’s just really good comedy.
Yeah, a ton of the jokes in Rick and Morty are just reused from Community. It amuses me how few people realize it watching Rick and Morty because they never saw Community.
This episode reminded me why I love watching this with Blindwave. I laughed harder and had more fun watching this (an episode I've seen half a dozen times), than I ever have. Their genuine laughter and response to it made me burst out laughing and enjoy the jokes more. Much love to you guys and thanks for sharing your enjoyment. Also, Pierce taking flu shots yelling, "I'LL BE A LIVING GOD!" always gets me. Always.
I don’t think that’s enough Keith David, frankly. What if that show had him narrate an episode, say, three seasons before his addition to the main cast, as well?
The bottle episode earlier in the season, where we first saw Annie's Boobs steal the pen(s), foreshadowed the Jeff/Britta reveal in this episode. When the gang strips down to their underwear, Britta asks Jeff, "Don't you usually wear that [super elite, luxurious type]?" and Abed mumbles, "What does she mean 'usually'?" Even back then, he was receiving the data that they were hooking up, even if he wasn't interpreting it. Oh, and there was also when they made out in the back of the car literally on top of Abed during Troy's birthday.
Easily the best spin I've seen on a clip show. I think of this episode every time a show I've seen does a lame clip show. It's very smart, well written and a great spin.
I loves this episode cause normally a clip show is just stuff we’ve actually seen before on the show with maybe some extended scenes but, they just shot new random clips❤
I loved the Cape too. Also the six seasons and a movie is a thing that became such a big deal fans have actually finally willed the movie into existence.

In the commentary on the DVD they talk about how it was a loving tribute to the fan who made that original video, man freakin LOVE this show.
They filmed this episode at Universal Studios, and apparently during the "Habitat for Humanity" bit, which was filmed in the War of the Worlds set, the ride would go off every few minutes and they had to wait for it to stop in order to get a good take.

I can't make it. Well, tell your disappointment to suck it, I'm doing a bottle episode!" and then he threw the phone down, but he visibly didn't actually dial or hang up? Fun Fact about Jim Rash, the Dean's Actor, is that he won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for writing the Descendants in 2012 and was nominated for an Emmy in 2014 for his documentary series The Writer's Room
Always loved that they skipped a season of will they/won't they love interest plot and just showed they had been having sex behind everyone's back the whole season.
The play on flashback episodes is so good - it's like a lovely treat for everyone who's been enjoying the show and delights in all the corners that Community simply refuses to cut.

Dan Harmon payed lik3 30K of his own money to use that specific song, because they had used up the seasons music budget already since what with the Abba songs on the Zombie episode. It was a tribute to a fan made video of Annie and Jeff that he saw and he said it was the first time he realized people cared about the show.
Troy said his uncle put his finger in his plop-plop. He didn't say his uncle touched his no-no. In Troyspeak, no-no juice is wine. No-no juice would be something else entirely the other way.
He uses the term "plop-plop" when he's confessing to the class that he made it up. When he interrupts Vicky to initially make the claim, he uses "no-no"
