another journey by train and sinking are in my top too I'd put play for today, the bassline i played the most probably in my life as when i was learning to play 25 years ago i was obsessed with it. Also love How Beautiful you are and charlotte sometimes.
Very glad for the video, but man... Other Voices HAS to be on the list of best Cure bass lines and I'd put The Holy Hour up there. Other Voices is easily top 3 for me. Possibly my very favorite.
For that Peter Hook and Simon Gallup sound, do I go for a p bass or a j bass. I love both basses, but if I could have JUST ONE, which one do i go for??
@@djpage7 he writes all the lyrics and a lot of the music but many of the songs start out as instrumental demos by other band members, in particular Simon. if you look at the deluxe editions of their albums, there are a bunch of "RS home demo" versions, where we can assume Robert wrote all of the music. with some others they've explicitly been noted as Simon's ideas, e.g. Lovesong, High, Mint Car, The Perfect Girl, Same Deep Water and Untitled too, I think.
Obviously, you can't include them all, and it's subjective. But I would've expected to see 'From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea', that has a pretty ingenious progression (compared to the very plain, albeit catchy "Just Like Heaven")
There are 2 bassists that I would like your take/review of: 1. Adam Clayton of U2. Even though I am not a huge U2 fan (do like their main hits), I just want your evaluation of him and ways to make the bass-lines more interesting to play. 2. Dusty Hill of ZZ Top. Although his lines are also fairly straight-forward, I find his to be more fun to play..Yes, I like them a lot more for many reasons.
Top 10 The Cure bass lines and no "Close to You"!?! Solid list overall, but IMO "Close to You", especially the "Mixed Up" version, has to be one of the band's most iconic songs which the bass lays the foundation for with keys and drums.
@@donalmaguire6099 That's incorrect. Lovesong for example was formed around Simon's bassline. Homesick was created by Lol before he was kicked out of the band. Simon and Lol contribute a lot to the Cure's song writing process. During the creation of Faith for example both Lol and Simon contributed to the lyrics. Lol - "All Cats Are Grey" for example. During Disintegration the instrumentation was developed by all members of the band. People tend to forget about the other members and only focus on Robert.
I am a simple man. I hear a cure bass line, I like and I comment.

No Lovesong? That's really, really unexpected. After all it's the best bassline ever.
Nope! Not even close :P
Not even close.
Lovesong bassline is very nice
Maybe not the best, but pretty damned good.
I would add Grinding Halt, fantastic bass line
The Cure had killer bass lines
"have"
Very glad for the video, but man... Other Voices HAS to be on the list of best Cure bass lines and I'd put The Holy Hour up there. Other Voices is easily top 3 for me. Possibly my very favorite.
Definitely. The bass tone alone in that song should land it on this list.
Everything on Faith has pretty cool basslines
Absolutely. Incredibly disappointing to not see any faith here.
Correct on all accounts!!!
I like the hanging garden basslines💥
Icing Sugar and Man In My Mouth(B-side) would be great additions. Well done, and I enjoyed your playing and choice! Cheers from AZ!
Could you do a Lullaby bass play along?
“Watching Me Fall” is an awesome bassline
Simon Gallup along with Hunter Bergan from AFI are the reasons i have played the bass for 20+ years.
You make that look so eeeeeeazy!! xx well done and God I love that band
For that Peter Hook and Simon Gallup sound, do I go for a p bass or a j bass. I love both basses, but if I could have JUST ONE, which one do i go for??
Probably a p bass as they have a more distinct bite
Круто!!! Coooool!!!!
"Out of this world" for me the best bass line for the cure
Do a top 10 The Cure bass lines is a tuff one! I couldn't choose... There are too many great songs based on the bassline to choose from
Love the bass
Great covers to bro
The bassline in Mint Car is amazing…
Other Voices is one that always stood out to me.
Very nice tone!
grinding halt, 10:15 saturday night, fire in cairo
Very strong list! The Cure are incredible!
Sinking looks really fun to play
Indeed it is. One of Simon's best bass lines.
Всё чётко и ритмично. Супер!🤘

Very professional.... O. K.
A forest ❤❤❤ necesito volver a tocar
I agree with most of these, except might have swapped "lullaby" for "burn" off the crow soundtrack. Would love to heat that isolated bass riff!
cool video. What drums did you use? Is this some kind of vst plugin?
I assume that the riffs were written by Robert Smith. One thing to note, is that they are some killer bass riffs.
Every bass line in this video was written and played by Simon.
What's the basis of your assumption? You just threw something like and 21 people agreed with you?
@@dinghao8541 Smith is the principal songwriter, most of the songs are his ideas.

Nice tone, you nailed it!
Son demasiadas!
LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOVE!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Oui et avez vous remarqué la basse dans la chanson 17seconds, rien à voir à priori avec les accords de guitare, et pourtant...
Let's Go To Bed is NOT in this list???? HOW??? That might be their BEST bassline!!!
Or Lovecats. Thinking about it, the video would have been very long if he played every Gallup's awesome bassline.
its his top, make yours if you dont like hahahaha
@@cine.delmundo good idea
@@bedroomstudios2614 Well, all of the Japanese Whispers era tracks were when Simon was out of the band, so those are technically Robert basslines.
cosmic m8 good job
Instant Subscribe! Can you do a Bass Habits Episode about Peter Hook, pretty please?
Damn you have great tone in this video! What gear are you using?
Now how to sound like Paul Del Bello! lml
Mint car is wicked!
100% awesome!!!
I hope one day I would see them play sinking on the stage~
Playing sinking like I used to. Three notes instead of two at the end.
Simon inégalable

Brill
primary? that song and the album in general is all about the bass
Where is love cats?
Other Voices is missing.
No open?
Is Tom Peterson form cheap trick worth a video?
What distortion did you use on Screw?
Ampeg SVT VR classic plugin
surprised not to hear Secrets and Close To Me
What pickup are you using more? bridge or neck?

Disintegration well represented 👍
did robert write those? I believe he wrote the bulk of the music for disintegration by himself.
