Literally happened with me, back a few months ago when seeing him for the first time in Hollow Zero I wasn't impressed by him at all much, then Virtual Revenge came and he became my second favorite character, and now with patch 1.4 he is my favorite character alongside Billy now. XD
yeah considering we knew pretty much nothing of him started 1.3 i didnt like his guts thinking he faked a lot to get to be lazy. 1.3 really didnt tell us much about him to get us invested since lighter was the second part
I really love the symbolism for this. Asaba's corruption leaves him feeling that no one will accept him for how he is, but at the end he finds other cats (Section 6) that accept him regardless of what he looks like. Genuinely well done.
section 6 heals each other so much and i love it, they mean so much to each other. how yanagi feels worthless, when she can't resolve something, but the others always believe in her. how they all protect soukaku. how miyabi is scared to hurt them/lose them because of her curse. and... how harumasa scared of them not accepting him, but they do accept him. they accept each other as they are🥹

Between this and his agent story, harumasa is a very well written character. Might have been the best written in the game so far with the subjects that were tackled in that.
For real. I think so far Harumasa is the most complex character in ZZZ. I especially love how we never know for sure how much of what he told us is truth, lie, or just bravado. We know he has a serious side behind his happy and mischievous exterior. We know his illness is real, but we also know he likes to play it up as jokes. So every time he is being optimistic, we don’t know if he’s just lying to not worry others, or simply coping, or that he’s just really positive. I also love how he embraces both the good and the bad, and always keeps an open mind to look at controversial matters from multiple points of view.

He doesn't want to sour the mood, he doesn't want his team to be sad, that's why he pretends to fake sick and creating this laid-back image. Turning back into black cat is to stop pretending. But they still treat him as before, they accepted it, and most importantly - they are going to be alright, so he has nothing to worry about. Play his story and trust events/encounters, and you will realize his drive is love for others, not fear for himself.
The animation timing the hourglass sand running out with the line "The rest of my life will surely stay this way. I wanted to believe these times would never end.", with "I wanted to believe" stressed in the vocals at the exact time he transforms back... was SO PERFECT. It feels so tragic and conveys so much in just a few seconds. The end page matching the object placement on his desk is clever too. His medicine is the potion, which is keeping him in "normal" cat form. However,I feel sad that he still chooses to transform to look like a normal cat in the end. But I mean, the reality would be him turning into an ethereal. No amount of acceptance can let him stay in society if that happens. The lyrics of the song are so perfectly tailored for the animation and the story.

Y'know this only means that Section 6 has their third artist. Soukaku obviously draws a lot, Miyabi draws the seeing-eye spirit of her blade and plays tick tack toe with herself And then Harumasa drops an entire picture book as "some sketches" Again our boi, too humble.
What i love about this ep is this kinda shows a bit of the dynamic asaba has with his crew. Harumasa and Soukaku have a clear sibling dynamic, where she is always happy to spend time with him, even giving him some if her sweets, with him mostlikely denying, unless they are bitter. With Yanagi, its what you expect, she pretty much nags him to do his job, when we have seen that she does bail him out a lot, much more than normal leaves would allow. And then there's Miyabi, who it seems they are sparring partners, which is interesting, and it might be why she sees Harumasa in such high regards when it comes to fighting. Theres also the proxy siblings, to which he befriends no matter who you pick. But another thing i like is that even if his facade is broken and the group figures out his truth, he wishes they all remain his friends, that's how much he likes them.
Harumasa 🥺 glad you found people that accept you for who you are. May you live a long happy and healthy life with them. “Kitty… don’t be scared. Everyone loves you” 😭 and his smile afterwards 2:55 . Section 6 really have a close bond, they’re like family
I'm a Japanese whose English is not very good, but let me leave a comment here. I watched this EP again after seeing his agent story. No matter what he looks like, he has irreplaceable friends who love him. I almost cry when I see him enjoying himself with his friends.
This is such an adorable and heartwarming music video for Harumasa and Section 6! Everyone looks so cute in their cat forms and I love the story they told with the animations and music! I honestly got teary-eyed from this video. If you ever felt lonely, theres no feeling like being lonely and an outcast for something out of your control and there’s no greater relief finding people who accept you for who you are! Harumasa and the little kitty being afraid of being alone again and finding people that accept them for who they are is such a powerful emotion and message! I’m so happy Harumasa had more to his character than just a lazy guy who used sick days from his first impression and that they gave him to us for free! Everyone in Section 6 are amazing and are one big happy family, not by blood but by choice! 🥰🐈❤️

im gonna cry this is sooo cute 😭😭 i finished his agent story today and wow. it was such an emotional rollercoaster and i loved it. i wanted to cry so many times and i'm just glad that we as phaethan get to comfort harumasa. especially near the end when he asks to promise us that if he ever turns to an ethereal, that we would put him out of his misery so that he wouldn't roam around hollow zero forever as an ethereal. i didn't know if i was going to like him a lot, but i do. i love him actually ngl i only played consistently again for lighter and i didn't even know if i would like any more new characters but now that i caught up on the story, man i just love the season 1 characters we have rn. i didn't even expect to like section 6 so much, i was content with never knowing them, but the special episode with yanagi changed my mind so hard.

im gonna cry this is sooo cute 😭😭 i finished his agent story today and wow. it was such an emotional rollercoaster and i loved it. i wanted to cry so many times and i'm just glad that we as phaethan get to comfort harumasa. especially near the end when he asks to promise us that if he ever turns to an ethereal, that we would put him out of his misery so that he wouldn't roam around hollow zero forever as an ethereal. i didn't know if i was going to like him a lot, but i do. i love him actually
ngl i only played consistently again for lighter and i didn't even know if i would like any more new characters but now that i caught up on the story, man i just love the season 1 characters we have rn. i didn't even expect to like section 6 so much, i was content with never knowing them, but the special episode with yanagi changed my mind so hard.

Well.. I really did not care about Harumasa. But now I do. Didn’t expect to wake up to *this* and start the day shedding tears. Gotta play his Agent Story soon.
