Fun fact: In the movie gladiator, in the opening battle, the tactics were so inaccurate that the real Romans would've been demolished if they tried them.

What are you talking about. The opening formations where the Romans lined up with onagers and scorpions with a trench line was exactly how the Romans liked to fight. It was one of the key reason for why they lost during the barbarian wars in 100 bc. They spent hours setting and forming up, and the barbarians just bumrushed them before they were properly formed. But given enough time, then the Romans would line up exactly as we see in Gladiator.
