    The first technique establishing half guard is one of my staple mount escapes, especially against bigger training partners. That deep half escape is great though! Its always amazing to me when a new twist to a familiar technique can add new and and effective options to your game. Appreciate the knowledge!

    A good tip is also to straighten your bottom leg out in order to more snuggly hold onto the 1/4 guard. Once that leg is snug, go belly up. It's almost as if you're shrimping under the opponent's knee.

    I was watching this. I was in this position a few times today both top and bottom.
    When I was in bottom, framing hips, trying to position my own hips, he just reached down and grabbed my neck, rolled me over and went rear naked.
    I was on top and two times gift wrapped and went to rear naked. Half guard is tricky.

  • @ZymixProductions

    Is there a way to do this, but protecting yourself as much as you can from strikes? Thank you Sir!

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep moving. An opponent without balance cant strike. Although realistically, an upa escape is more practical on the street although you shouldn't be mounted on the street lol. (-: Tom Davey

    • @ZymixProductions
      @ZymixProductions 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGrapplingAcademy My dream would be that all streets are turned into mats. Knuckle drags would be less harsher.

  • @htetgyaw2192
    @htetgyaw2192 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great escape. Not meant for MMA or combat situation though since guy on top would elbow the face. But slick move otherwise

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Glad you liked it. You will see Big Nog in MMA use this technique in the UFC. Yes you can get hit but at least you escape and end up on top! I actually find there to be little difference between sport and MMA jiu jitsu....yes there are small striking considerations but A LOT LESS than most people think. (-: Coach Tom

  • @jayjaybee5394
    @jayjaybee5394 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I manage get my hips under his knee but as I rotate he follows me and it's like stale mate until I do something else. So far I've never been able to finish the move.

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mAKE SURE TO USE YOUR RIGHT UPPER ARM AND SHOULDER TO HOLD HIS FAR HIP/LEG IN PLACE AS YOU MOVE OUT AND AROUND TOWARDS THE GUARDED LEG. wITH PRACTISE, THIS MOVE WILL BE INDESPENSIBLE FOR YOU. (-: coach tOM dAVEY

    • @jayjaybee5394
      @jayjaybee5394 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really enjoy working this koala escape. When I come on top, I get prepared for the guillotine that comes inevitably 100% of the times and I place my hand in front of neck to grab the choking hand. Any better options ? Thank you so much, I would love to have a coach like you. :)

  • @k.padraigokane1472
    @k.padraigokane1472 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool move. !t could also be called, "Koala get hammerfisted in the face. 50xs" This is really good for grappling, but defo not for street.

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately from mount in MMA, you are getting punched/elbowed regardless and ironically, Big Nog uses this move in MMA to great effect. I find a lot of times, people wrongly judge moves based on strike protection because they forget that if they dont escape, they are finished anyway.Food for thought. -Coach Tom

    I love your videos they help me alot in my BJJ journey i have trained judo for a year and been training BJJ for about two years this closest gym is like 30 mins away and it's just got to much for me to get there i have friends who want to train with me and i am happy about that but we are getting more and more people who want to train with us but we need more mats and bigger space what do i do i am only a three stripe white belt i Want to spread jiu jitsu i love it so much so if you have any thoughts it would mean a lot thanks

      I'd say purple belt or brown belt depending on skill levels would be the most suitable type of coach's.
      No point teaching when you barely know and I'm the same rank who has trained for 4 years.
      I learn off of a mixture of purple brown and black belts and even a top notch blue belt who is heavily decorated in competitions.
      Good luck on your journey.

    I'll take the back, with your escape.

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A lot of people try to take my or my students' back but it doesn't happen once you learn to do it correctly. Trying to take the back against deep half is almost always a bad idea and trap. You will notice that my back is on the mat so this simply precludes the possibility of someone taking my back. You may be surprised at the effectiveness of this.....if you try it. In fact, I also use deep half guard TO ESCAPE THE BACK! - Coach Tom

    • @Stefyxxl
