Wish the white belt wore a white Gi so we can see the technique better. Color contrast especially for the leg movements like "snag the leg and drag the leg." Anyways, thanks for data. Humble white belt I am. Respect to you. Great instruction.
I really appreciate the conceptual advice as well as the technique. Even when I can't remember each step, when I can understand the why behind the how I can improvise.
Love extending my leg out to the side, using a quad to pin that foot down before the roll. Ever since I saw this, I’ve had multiple successes with that little adjustment, so thank you for that!
This month’s focus at my school is Mount escape. I pulled all four of these off in class on the first day just from this video and some drilling with the grappling dummy.
Thanks Prof Tom from another lanky guy. I've unfortunately been finding myself under mount a bunch and at training the other day I was able to sweep out of mount using the leg over technique. People may eventually get wise to it but at least I've got it in my arsenal now.
Love how you explain the basic physics behind the actual moves, makes it easier to focus on the natural basics of the body as you apply the escapes into attacks
This is an awesome video. I've been prating no-gi for about 5 months now and have consistently found myself under mount with no real idea on how to get out aside from #3. Im definitely going to try and work on these others.
Hey Professor, I just started BJJ about a month ago, and I cannot tell you how damn much these videos have helped me. You are a gifted teacher. Thank you so much for sharing these with us. It's really helped up what little game I have as a complete newbie!
Started training No Gi the other day. Found out the hard way I can't use my usual escape from mount. These 4 ways seem like they can work way better in No Gi
On my last roll my partner showed me that if you can't do the "trap and roll", you can always do "trap and slam their face into the mat". Would've knocked me out cold if it was on concrete.
Please let me know if you ever come to the states Georgia more specifically your explanations are just super clear to me and the technique are different than I have seen so far I learn every video you post many things
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I discover your channel. I like the slow steps and the way you are very respectful to practitioners. Greetings from Mexico. Now I follow your channel I hope one day to train with you
Teaching with a smile; love it Coach Tom. Important stuff there, thanks. -sorry, I can't help myself... Demonstrating in that corner you should wear lighter pants/gi/tops; we can't make out the legs sometimes; it's too dark in that corner.
Excellent video, one of the best presentations on the foundation mount escapes I have seen. Maybe I haven't seen it yet and you made it already but do you have a similar video on fundamental ways to maintain the mount. I work in security and am familiar with Mount Maintenance from Army Combatives but it was not taught with near the systematic approach you are using and I think that could help me be more effective during arrest control situations.
Great videos! Do you think you could also demonstrate or just discuss very briefly the counters to all of these? That way I can know based on their reaction that I should quickly try the next mount escape. Would be very helpful
Question Professor, is there a significance behind the blue stripes vs white strips on the black bar of your student's belt? My professor loves the snag and drag escape (he calls it the fish hook), but I struggle with it. Any tips?
notice how the white belt is sitting with his feet flat on the floor and toes pointed out to the sides. This is a good way to sit if you feel like breaking your ankle or blowing out your knee. Dont do that lol
beginner question, I saw everyone has cauli ears in grappling and wrestling but you don't. Did you always wear a headgear or? is there a way to avoid cauli ears?
I'm gonna watch this about 12 more times lol
I went to like this comment...then realized I had already like it. This video is gold
I have saved it in a special playlist where i am going to do the same 🙂
Same. On #3 now…

I always seem to get caught in mount, it's the bane of my life😂
Prof. Tom, ur awesome. Love the evil pleasure in your voice when you teach submissions. J

Glad to see Nick Fuentes is finally taking up jiu jitsu!

Agreed, it's friggin' awesome. Thank you for all you do, Prof Tom!
Amazing work! Do you ever thought of doing a white belt series?
We love the professor. Please more white belt friendly videos :-)
This is great, thank you

Hope to meet you some day on the mats!
Great video sir! Got 3 more ways to try to escape from this purple belt. Haaaaa
Love from Spain!!
Great technique Professor!!! You make it look so easy and for you, it probably is. Against much larger opponents it's soooo much more difficult for me
Excellent quality material really appreciate it thanks guys
Very Nice!!!
This is awesome! Can you do the same from side control? I get stuck there all the time.
Thanks for the tricks. It seems to be very usefull.
Amazing 👏
Teaching with a smile; love it Coach Tom.

Professor, I wish I was in your country to learn from you. :)
Hi Jonathan, welcome to BJJ family. :)

That was awesome!!
great video thank you!
You're the greatest! Thanks Tom!
Great videos! Do you think you could also demonstrate or just discuss very briefly the counters to all of these? That way I can know based on their reaction that I should quickly try the next mount escape. Would be very helpful
Thank you
Thanks PT 👌🏼
Quality content. Cheers.
Love these!!
Ok, this is amazing
In the Snag & drag variation, doesn't I expose my neck too much, while trying to set up the scissor?
In reality your neck is exposed at all times in mount so escape quick as you are doomed regardless!
From the deep half guard can you bridge to the other side so you can attack the back?
Yep
@@TheGrapplingAcademy thanks for replying in such an old video! Keep on teaching my friend
wow...nice
Awesome content! Is there any chance, that you make similar ones for side control or knee on belly escape?
Amazing work man, keep it up. How can I get one hash like the one you're wearing? I'm from Brazil. Cheers
Basics always work

Off topic, but does anyone have a recommendation for wrestling shoes for bjj?
should've watched this before my mma tournament lol
Nice
Fazer com um cara bem mais leve e fácil né?
Virtually no dislikes because everyone hates being mounted
Tai Tuivasa could use this
WTF. why i see only knees on the screen?
His legs weren't hooked when you did the #4 escape
Jiu jitsu doesn’t suck it’s fricken awesome
Prof Tom. Shoulders. Thick. 👍🏻
The first one is just a roll, there is a bridge missing😁

Its a chess game. Thanks
Carzo Parazzo that was my exact thought the last time I was stuck. 😂 love a good challenge.
Please use opponents your size. It gives a better idea of the effectiveness.
These techniques obviously will only work if you are a white belt... Like gravity...
This guy's a professor? Which university does he teach at?
He has a 10 year degree in Brazilian jujitsu. 👌🏽
@@citizen762 Which university gives Jiu Jitsu degree's?
Pure Machado University, the Gracie Institute, among others. 😉
Thank you
Thank you
