    TESTIMONIALS
    ‘Started hitting the moves laid out in these courses the very next class...extremely uplifting to have such a quick improvement in my game’ - Houston, TX
    ‘I’m the only white belt in the academy doing these moves…I’m suddenly competing at a blue belt and above level…thanks Coach Tom’ - LA, California
    ‘Some of the best strategies you are going to see for control and submission’ - London, UK
    ‘The detailed way Prof Tom breaks down his moves into the absolute essentials is just next level for me. This is absolute gold‘ - Sydney, Australia
    ‘Most of the guys at my Academy, have about 60lbs on me, but since purchasing your ‘Kimura Attack system’ and ’14 days’ everything has changed. I feel much more confident, roll better and the guys on the mat have commented on the same. Thanks, Coach Tom’ - Dallas, TX
    ‘I know you have your names for your courses, but I’ve renamed them the ‘Zero to hero’ courses, I went from getting constantly owned, to now being completely dominant on the mat in no time at all’ - San Diego, California
    ‘I use the course material heaps, and just recently put it into action at a local comp, walked away with double gold. No one was more surprised than me! - Miami, Florida
    ‘As a new white belt, these classes have helped me so much, Prof Tom’s technique, the details, and his attitude. I love how Prof. Tom shows the ‘mistakes people make’ and then shows the correct way of doing things. The only one I have ever seen do this’ - New York, New York
    Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia
    ‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver
    ‘All of it. Everything you show in your awesome videos are now my ‘go to techniques’. Thanks for your vids Prof, Tom’ - Houston, TX
    ‘You really have to watch every second of the video because Prof, Tom drops these little nuggets of gold throughout the course. And they make ALL the difference. The only one doing this. Keep them coming Professor’ - NY, New York
    ‘If I could only be taught from one person, Prof Tom would be it. I can’t wait to train in person one day’ - Dallas, TX
    ‘Went to a recent competition with these videos fresh in my mind. I knew I had an edge and the confidence this gave me was unreal. Got the gold. All submission wins! - LA, California

    2. Get your waistline past your partners waistline

      This tech worked for me 3 times out of 8 rolls today, and I consider this a great success since I’ve only been grappling for a little over 3 months. • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Preventing sleeve grips and breaking them are crucial guard passing tools. However, if people grab my sleeves I tend to close my elbows and use their pull to initiate a pressure pass or at least lock my hands onto their legs to regain control of my arms. Good luck passing! (-: Coach Tom Davey

  • @roleg2007
    @roleg2007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Couple of questions re: hack 2 -- (1) Should you attempt hack 2 if your opponent has butterfly hooks in or do you need to get the hooks out first? Seems like with butterfly you're putting yourself in position for your opponent to more easily sweep you. (2) Should you always make sure your hips are below your head level (i.e., no "diving" into the pass) so that the pressure he feels is concentrated below your hips? Thanks for the awesome instruction!!! :)

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both questions have grey area answers because you can pass butterfly with or without pressure....see my passing video on that one on youtube. Same goes with hip height....different guards have different ideal postures so trial and error and a sense of balance will be your friends here. (-: Coach Tom Davey

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      HI Kenny, yes that is a common problem. You must break grips if you cant prevent them by getting your grips first. But learning how to pass the different guards is one of the fun adventures we have in Jiu Jitsu. Keep your limbs tight to your body when approaching guard....especially in the gi! Have fun (-: Coach Tom

    I've come a long way in ju jitsu,.. despite some injuries and sick times I signed up for school in October something like that and its now late December so thats 3 months.. with a lot of sick time off, lets say it deducts a month so 2 months training .. I did win some ju jitsu bouts ... 2 rear naked chokes, 1 body triangle ... but I sure lost a lot. I've learned the arm bar defense
    okay so I've gotten to the double under pass, throw the legs to the side and knee slice for now...
    however.. I am having a bit of trouble
    I recently went to an open mat and out of 4 opponents , i only got a win in 1 of the 4 opponents... with another opponent i survived enough that I could maybe handle a round without being submitted but in future rounds he got me with an americana, something like that... one of the opponents was taller, and another had some size I believe.. ...
    the double under pass, if their legs are on the ground i guess its not efficient to lift them , you just should try to pass so maybe not the best decision of mine.. anyways to my questions..
    as related to the .. combat base versus combat base "guard pass" aka.. trying to get rear mount on them or advantageous position ...
    #1 I noticed the opponents who got me good, he pushed my head down , which I guess maybe took my eyes a bit from defending well... but any idea why they did that.. I asked the guy and he said others do that too in order to "pull guard"
    #2 I noticed another opponent he kept going for my legs... i asked his reason, after our match he said.. he doesnt want the opponent on top as he is a smaller guy usually, .... he did seem to leave himself vulnerable to a rear mount but defended well...
    ... typically when I lose they get side control and go for americana or head lock :( ... to be honest, i lost so many times to some guy lol couldnt figure out what im doing wrong

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a lot of questions there and I would suggest simply asking your partner after every roll what you could have done better as without seeing video footage I cant comment really, like I do for some students who's rolling footage I review for them. Just stick to the basics, get to mount and don't just roll to 'win'...its only about learning how to win and testing your techniques for improvement. (-: Coach Tom Davey

    Ty coach! I have 2 issues with this pass however. 1. What happens when you can´t push their knees and they keep kicking you off, when you approach them (mma) 2. I always seem to get triangled or give them full guard before getting to part 3

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In MMa lead with the knee not the head and keep your knee bent. Stay tight, keep posture and punch and pass simultaneously for mma. Happy rolling (-: Tom Davey

    The upper belt always grab my gi and try to pull me down when I try to pass guard. It's super annoying and it locks me up. Suggestions?

    I like the ideas you show. But I have reservations about when you are high up on your partners hips. That looks decidedly unstable to me. Especially when your opponent is "resisting" and can get grips on your sleeves or jacket Like you really don't have a base. What am I missing?

    The problem is that the person defending can push you down by grabbing you feets

    What do you think of the "headhunter" passing?

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think all passing styles and techniques have their place. Guard passing is like problem solving. There are many different ways but the only measuring point of success is how quick and easily the problem gets solved. Even though we develop favourite passing techniques, each guard is different and therefore presents a different problem to be solved. That is the fun (-: Coach Tom
