this worked!!! thank you. i had my username & password for the iCloud this iPhone was signed into, but still got "Iphone Unavailable" screen because I forgot the 4 digit code that unlocks my iphone!!!!! I'd hate to think i also forgot my iCloud username and password, then restoring this phone would have been so much harder!! tip for this is have itunes already downloaded on your pc/mac have itunes already on after installation THEN have your iphone go into recovery mode like this video shows you if the pc is connected to iphone, the itunes will automatically give you the popup like this video shows you you need to login by entering username and password then there will be a popup asking you to restore/update/etc.

I clicked on Update instead of Restore and then the iPhone is now asking me to wait 8hrs to enter the PIN again. It’s better to update instead of restore, that way you avoid formatting the iPhone.
