7:40 speaks to the customs that are no more.
As a child I loved seeing my Gran and the older women carry things on their heads. I would mimic the women. These days are no more really in Barbados 🇧🇧. However, I was to pleased to see the women do the same in West African. It speaks to the true connection of our culture that came from Africa 🌍

This was absolutely fascinating to listen to. I was absolutely envious and wish I could have been sitting there with you. His knowledge was amazing. Loved hearing so much history and seeing those tremendous black and white photos, spectacular. Would love to see the paintings including his which he mentioned which we painted for Barbados becoming a Republic. I am hoping to return to Barbados this year and will definitely try to get to the Barbados museum an added bonus would be to have the honour to see this great man around. Thank you for this wonderful video.

Its been a while sorry. Just a couple personal Thoughts/Memories from my Teens about your subject Barbados in the 60's before I listen. No Fear. I could walk and go anywhere in Barbados. Cricket. Kensington Oval; Gary Sobers Captain of the best team on Earth, with Wes Hall, Charlie Griffith (West Indies Team). Entertainment: Jackie Opel, ( I still have his album) Emile Straker and the Merry Men, Blue Rythm Combo, Twilighters Combo (my Cousin's Band), Fern Trail, Alfred Pragnell, Redifusion, The Caribbean Pepperpot, CBC TV on from 6 till midnight (first show i ever saw was 'I love Lucy'). The Mighty Sparrow, Byron Lee. (Calypso, Ska and Reggae) Four Movie Theaters including The Vista (3 in Bridgetown, Globe, Empire and ???) and a Drive-in. Seawell Airport, Errol Barrow, Queens Park Annual Exhibition, Garrison Savannah (Horse Racing/Gambling), Deep Water Harbor (port Bridgetown). The Public Library. Swan Street, Nelson Street, The Advocate, Banks Brewers (across from Flag Staff Road where I lived). Bay Primary Boys School. Harrisons College. Foundation.(Cousins' attended both). UWI, the Sports Stadium. St. Barnabas Church Excursions. Independence Day (Nov 30, 1966). (and of course Harewood's Photo Studio on Tudor Street, My Uncle Ralph's Baby). (He also worked for the Advocate.) and there was a pro basketball league and the team I remember best (The SevenUps). Girls Girls Girls, I loved them in Barbados and a few of them loved me too. (also in Bridgetown the River stunk really really bad, but the Government cleaned that up after I left for the US.)..... The BIM is remember well. Take care.

@@BajanLifestyles my pleasure...also the Queen visited Barbados often, I saw her twice., we would line up on the front road and wave to her. So don't be surprise if maybe one of her kids was conceived in Barbados.... hahah... like Alfred Pragnell would say "Signs and Wonders child".

This is a treasure worth keeping - thank you. My father in law showed me around Bridgetown on my first visit 10yrs ago and gave me a breakdown of the history, which I remember to this day. Slavery was abolished only in the 1860s, and honestly there isn't enough publicity about Barbados and Bajans .. though that might be a good thing

Slavery was abolished in the USA in 1865 after the Civil War. In Barbados and the rest of the British Empire, slavery was abolished in 1834.

How amazing, for him to experience 🇧🇧 in three different eras. Colonialism, Independence, and Republicanism. I love the fact that the govt saw fit to remove old paintings and replaced them with local artists. Thank you for sharing his experience
