i am not sure why TH-cam refuses to show me your videos half the time. whenever i see them it's a treat because i like seeing someone who hasn't played a game i grew up with so i get a more grounded non-nostalgic perspective. your writing has enough brevity to not be exhausting like other retrospective channels with lots of unnecessary fluff information. while Half-Life has a special place in my heart (Half-Life 2 more-so albeit) it tended to have a lot of banal or downright frustrating sections that make me not want to replay the game like i used to anymore. there are still some shining details that make the experience quite a lot more enjoyable though such as the intelligent (for the time) soldiers, the dynamics between player and friendly NPCs, the environment can be dynamic and interactive and there's always some wacky and spectacular set piece. also, if you're ever willing to give Half Life a shot again but more modernized, Black Mesa is an incredible upgrade from Half-Life visually and gameplay wise. your complaints about the game becoming less enjoyable as the game progresses is addressed (the balance and difficulty are handled way better and the later monsters are much more fun to fight), the gunplay is a hundred times better, Xen is fixed to not be garbage and lasts a lot longer than the original and it fixes a lot of the really ugly moments (and sometimes even entire chapters like On a Rail). incredible project for what is effectively a fan game that took over a decade to finish. anyways, i'm looking forward to your next video and i'll try to make it so i'm actually alerted about your uploads by any means, and of course, i hope your burnout gets better, i know how it feels. cheers mate.
It almost feels like youtube doesn't know who to recommend me to or something, my click-through-rate is usually ass (totally not my awful thumbnails). I tried black Mesa for a while, but just like like the original, it still has those-less-fun-to-fight enemies and stuff, might check it out again in the future just to see the improved alien areas, those kind of sucked in the original. Thanks for watching and thanks for the encouraging words, they mean a lot. Comments like these motivate me more than a thousand views. New video sooner rather than later hopefully, but I'm not promising anything yet.
09:24 I completely understand what you're feeling. Burnout never feels great, but I promise you, very soon you'll get big. Very, very big. And man, take as much time off as you need. As much as I love to see your videos, I think I'd be happier to hear that you haven't gone insane, hahaha. Have a good one man, amazing video. I hope to one day get the same editing quality in my own videos (I post them on a different account to this one).
Thanks for the encouraging words, I'm hoping you're right! I'd love to get some real attention on here some day. Let's hope I get some stuff out sooner rather than later! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
I think something a bit underplayed in the movement section is that it feels incredibly fun even if you aren’t good at source movement. As long as you know that after you jump you have to strafe instead of W and to chain jumps(the absolute basics) you’ve already improved your base movement 10x. Also I can’t believe you didn’t mention the worst flashlight known to man in the graphics section. Good video though
Yeah I know they did a lot to make the game better, including extending the last section and so on, sorry if I was unclear about that. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I played HL a lot when it came out, and played CS for decades but never beat it all the way through until the pandemic hit; and they had it for free on steam :) Just a great, classic game. The PS2 version was kinda cool too. Love your stuff man gg
Thanks Dork! I do like the shorter videos, but the longer ones are just too fulfilling to finish, even if nobody really watches them. Thanks for watching :D

@@amazonen66 I wonder, do you have a discord server? I'd love to join if you have one, that way I can stay in touch (as much as I might be inactive).

Hey mate, great vid, I would be happy to see one of those vids for Unreal, the first one. I admit is quite hard to play end-to-end but worth it
Quake has been added to the list :D Thanks for watching!

SOURCE MOVEMENT IS KING. Also, yeah the flashlight sucks ass. Basically unusable.
Got a notification for a new video from you. I know it's gonna be absolutely amazing.
Thanks for watching :D
underrated review, yet my favorite one
Thanks for watching!
Black Mesa isn't a streamlined version of Half-Life. It's actually a much longer game.

Just a great, classic game. The PS2 version was kinda cool too. Love your stuff man gg
It starts out very well but some of the later parts do drag and annoy somewhat, thanks for watching!
@@amazonen66 Yes! There's a reason I restarted it probably a hundred times but only finished it once 🤣
why do you not have thousands of subs? your videos are so high quality!
Thank you! Let's hope the algorithm finds me soon :D
I could never get in to black mesa tbh idk why i just love the original so much
It's pretty great. Breaking the game is also pretty fun.
Sorry bro, but this is a dang good video. Your short stuff is great, face it.
