Incredible writing. Introduced the main characters, added some background and then set the stage for the entire movie's premise.....in under 2 minutes.
I just watched a documentary about the making of this movie! Yup, there it was, crashing into the newsstand accidentally, and George Lucas kept it in the movie. Great movie, and a showcase of young talented actors who would all go on to greater things.
@@Meg_Lovegood The DVD release of AG - Drive in Double Feature has the original release and More American Graffti ...as well as the bonus doc: The Making of American Graffiti...and the theatrical trailer. The doc has extensive interviews with Lucas, the screen writers the cast as well as casting tests. The personal racing history retold by Lucas and antics of Harrison Ford and Paul Lamatt off screen when they threw Dreyfus in the hotel pool...all great stuff.
True, a charming smile, white pants and a slicked-back haircut leaning on a slicked-up car ...those hunks last forever in the part of my ponytail-brain which is 17 forever!
@@cindirose3390 ... I saw this movie for the first time at a drive-in theater.......with my parents. My parents both graduated from high school in 1962, so they would have been right around the age of the kids (characters) in the movie. Needless to say this movie meant a lot more to my parents than it did to me. This movie was set in my parents time, in other words. Wish I had understood that at the time.
I must have aboit 5 DVD's of this film around the hosue ...I love watching it ...Fantastic in every way...The sequel didn't stand up or match this ...This is it ...
No way! Segregation, Racism still took place, if you were Gay or a Alcoholic or a victim of abuse sexual or domestic there was nobody to turn to. Also women didn't have the same rights that a man did.
If you notice there's a little continuity goof in this scene. After Toad crashes the Vespa he just leans it up against the machines, but when Curt walks past it, it's up on its kickstand (I guess Toad could have run over there really quick and set it up, but doubt it lol).
Out of the 4 guys there I would have picked John. I fell head over heels in love with John Milner/ Paul Le Mat, the moment I laid eyes on him. The only man who ever could make me weak in the knees. He's Beautiful. Sexiest man in a white t-shirt and jeans. I would have loved him the way a man should be loved.
I wish someone could make a movie in this style but set in the 80s. Can you imagine the soundtrack? Cindy Lauper, Air Supply, Journey, Blondie, Olivia Newton John, Starship, Laura Branigan, Foreigner, Lionel Richie, The Police, REO Speedwagon, Kool and the Gang, Peabo Bryson, Juice Newton, Berlin, the Bangles, Belinda Carlisle, ect. Perhaps someone could take the initiative, this would be a great soundtrack.

Don’t you love it when a person comes straight to the point immediately? So much waffling & verbiage going on out there.
Lucas wrote this with the help of his friends Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck. They all did a great job here.

Just like the Water balloon scene it ment to hit Paul but instead hits Mackenzie, this movie is fantastic with great real moments
I notice this comment was two years ago. Do you happen to remember what the name of the documentary was? I am interested in watching it.
I always thought that crash was just good acting.

that character Charles Martin Smith is playing is a dweeb so it would be fitting that he couldn't handle a scooter!
Brilliantly understated performance by Richard Dreyfus throughout this film.

One of the best movies ever made!! 😍 Great music and Great cars..!
A awesome time to be alive!!
It’s like what the trailer said “It’s one of those great old feel good movies about romance, racing and rock n’ roll!
great acting, great filming, great photography, just great....
I agree with you about everything, but unfortunately there was a sequel ☹️
@@carlocalderon3659 Yep. Just like Grease 2. One critic said "Rydell High Should Have Closed Down After The Class Of 1959 Graduated". Low Blow.

A GREAT movie & NO cell phones !
An old classic with some breakout stars.
One of my favorite memories is seeing this at 16 . Still brings back the best of times.
It’s hard to believe that next year, this movie will be 50 years old…

Yeah, I noticed that. I would guess it was prolly shot a whole other day. Hollywood makes things hard like that,
American Graffiti (1973), courtesy of Lucasfilm
This was supposed to be 1962 with the movie made in 1973. In 2024 that's like making a movie about kids in 2013!
I love American Graffiti and I have 20 years old
George, you should have left _Star Wars_ as it was and gone on exploring like Spielberg and Scorsese.
Someone very quickly reset Toad’s Vespa and put the top back on the trash can.
Great movie
That scooter crash. There is no way that was scripted. Far too random and out of control. It looks like a genuine accident.
Came out in the US 50 years ago today

Check out the Edsel there.
