  • 25 hp on a 20' SeaCraft Deep Vee Hull?! In this Part 1 video I introduce Project Pottcake, my custom 20' center console turned tiller skiff boat. I test a 25 hp yamaha tiller to see just how well a full size boat can do with just a little power! Stay tuned for part 2 where we take our build madness to a whole new level!! Enjoy and thanks for watching!

    I had an 18ft wooden skiff a heavy oldtimer with a 25hp Johnson (70s model I think) it was a great boat a tad slower than that but we fished way out in the islands through rough seas whatever, it was reliable and economical and always got us home with a load of fish you don't need a gazillion horses to make a boat great.

      @@diywaterworld was out on my buddies Yamaha 242 yesterday, its something like 500hp i think. It's fun but heavy and twin motors eat up twice the fuel. I dont have a boat right now but man I'd be OK on something lighter with 1/8 the horsepower. Watching you makes me think I could smoke him from a hole shot with a homemade boat and under 50hp. But the ladies will all be piling on his boat because ya know it's nice and looks new and it's comfy. I think I just made a deal for a jet ski, idk we'll see how it works out.

    • @hidel308
      @hidel308 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ideally you wanna a motor that’s gonna run in the high RPMs. Overpowering a boat leads you to spend a majority of your time in the lower RPMs which is bad for the motor. Too much carbon buildup. Marine motors need to run hot in the higher RPM range on a regular basis to live long and happy lives.
