Neck Pickup: Highway Star - Deep Purple Middle Pickup: It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over - Lenny Kravitz Bridge Pickup: Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers
I have to tell you Mark, when I listen to you talk, sometimes I don't know what to think. But when you sit down and play, it's all cool. Music really is the universal language.
1966 Strats are my favorite sounding Strats along with 1964 because they have those grey bottoms pickups wound with enamel wire. Gives them that mellow, bubbly scooped mid Strat tone. Love it!!
#Straturday #1966TobaccoBurst 🇺🇸 1)Highway Star/Deep Purple 2)It Ain’t Over Til it’s Over/Lenny Kravitz 3)Give it Away/RHCP🌶 that’s as classic as it gets, serious stratomacaster tone right there 🔥 great demo @markagnesi
I had one of these years ago and the tone was awesome. Constantly got compliments from other musicians about the sound. And then I sold it. I still regret it to this day
600+ GOTDs & the first '66 Strat I've seen & I've searched the archives. Had mine over 40 yrs now but it's a bit more "stressed & seasoned" like the '65 from GOTD 1-18-18. Love my '66 Strat, never looked back!
Strat on Saturday what a concept!!!! That's a real beauty indeed! A Fender through a Fender amp. Yes the perfect match. All week the amp and guitars haven't gotten along.. But today we have a winner.
My favorite stratocaster. Cant beat a 3 tone clown burst with a dark rosewood fretboard. Clown shoe sized headstock doesnt look too bad with that logo either.
doooooooooogggg mark ....... that chili peppers cover was soooo fucking on point. killlledddddd it.. ps. you even amazed youself . i saw that look when u were done. dont try an fool us..drink on have a good weekend man. stayyyyyyyy rockkkkin
I saw Blackmore's Rainbow at the Fourth of July Jam in Cinncinnati back in 1976. Ritchie was in rare form. He smashed his Strat and was throwing pieces of it out into the crowd. He tore the three way switch off and tossed it out to us. The guy right in front of us jumped up and caught it. My friend, Eric, and I, took the guy down to the ground and kicked the shit out of him until he coughed up the souvenir. Eric wore it around his neck for a couple of years, I think. He would tape it to his guitar and worship it while he played, as if it held some Satanic power or something. I saw Rainbow again, a few months later. They were at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh. UFO and Schenker blew them off the stage. They brought the house down. It was a scream. Mother Mary. What a night.
Snuffy Grunt So YOU AND ERIC kicked the shit out of a guy for a fender switch.......? Nice...... Very brave...... Now why would you want to tell anyone about that......? You don't think for one minute that what you did was wrong....? Don't misunderstand me, I'm no fucking Pussy, and I've done some very naughty and violent things in the past, but I didn't need anyone to help me, and I'm not proud of it..... I certainly wouldn't be telling people about it on you tube...... What are you thinking.....?
I bought my first Strat in 1968. A 1962 Strat that some weirdo had hand-painted gold.... It cost me £50 from Jim Marshall's shop. I stripped the gold shit off it and it remained as bare wood for the next 8 years. Serial number was 78371, date of build 2nd July 1962. (It was stamped on the business end of the neck). Every 2nd of July I took it to my local pub to celebrate it's birthday. Sat it in a chair and bought each of us drinks. My mates would come up and buy us drinks also to celebrate with us.... One for me, and one for my guitar........ Happy days.......
1- Thin Lizzy My sharona cover 2- Some jazz chords Lenny Kravitz lifted from someone and claimed as his own 3- Red hot chilli peppers lifting the opening lick from Bitch
another gorgeous Strat , I assume it's a mahogany body and neck , possibly a maple cap , rosewood fingerboard , and of course those fender single coils , classic sound , great ring , chime , and resonance. Great set Mark , freakin Straturday , oh yah
Not sure why anyone could dislike the 'clown burst' look of these Strats. I love it, always have. Does that make me a clown...? Put that guitar through a Peavey Classic 30 or a Vox ac30 and it will warm up and make a hell of a nice noise...... All that eq's at 12 o clock malarkey with a Fender amp only works with Gibsons. Strats need more thought behind them........ Just saying
The nut looks like it needs replaced. Not a big deal, but does changing the nut take away the value any? Doesn't the telecaster 3 position switch make more sense? Neck, Neck & Bridge, Bridge. So on this Strat you never get 2 pick-ups on.
'66 Strat, yes, yes, yes. I have a '66 Olympic White (much cooler and better looking than the garish sunburst here) and it is great if not greater than any 60's Strat you will ever find. Pre-, post-CBS, whatever. The mid 60's pickups had the most well rounded tone in Strats & Teles, also a bit more output. That drives amps more while giving up a touch of that bell-like tone from the 2 and 4 positions. It's a good trade off, in my opinion. Other than the large head stock, it's the same guitar as a '64 or '65. And there are many who feel the big head stock contributes more mass and therefore a bit more tone and sustain. I might agree but I really don't know. All I can say is for the price difference between a pre-CBS and immediately post-CBS guitar, you get a lot more bang for your buck with the '66. Awesome guitars. By the way, that is not the original trem arm. Looks like one from a Jazz- master or Jaguar, much longer than a stock Strat trem. Nice demo, Mark, of a rarely praised year in Fender guitars.
My 66 Strat was found and purchased from a Calgary, Canada pawn shop by 15 year old me in 1970. Hated the “clown burst” and smartly engaged my elderly German master cabinet maker grandfather to re-finish it in multiple coats of glossy white topped with a finishing clear coat. You’d know it if you saw it as it would be noticeably brighter than Olympic white and, if you unscrewed and looked under the front plate, you still might see the original purchaser/owner’s name carved in there - Brad McCue. No idea who he was and no idea where that May 1966 factory stamped Stratocaster might be today. I traded it in at a Calgary guitar dealer towards the purchase of a brand new 1971 Gold Top. Sure I have regrets. Wish I had just kept it, as well as the Les Paul that replaced it, and every single other guitar I ever owned - even including the cheap red, practically unplayable, Sears catalogue purchased, ES 335 style body with a Fender looking headstock knock-off, first ever electric, 11th birthday present.
Today's #Straturday setlist:
1. Deep Purple-Highway Star
2. Lenny Kravitz-It Ain't Over Til It's Over
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers-Give It Away
This is a great era of strats......this one, no exception!
Neck Pickup: Highway Star - Deep Purple
Middle Pickup: It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over - Lenny Kravitz
Bridge Pickup: Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers
I can dig it.
I Love Spy Vs. Spy ! ! !
I have to tell you Mark, when I listen to you talk, sometimes I don't know what to think. But when you sit down and play, it's all cool. Music really is the universal language.

That bridge pickup agrees with my ears
Great playing Mark! I liked last week's Strat better. Just goes to show that not all vintage guitars have that magic mojo.
I remember Ritchie Blacksmore wrote Smoke on the Campfire with that.
Green Sombrero Yep.... Ol' Richie Blackstone sure could knock out a riff or two.
My favourite is 'Choke on the Water'..... Great tune...
Hey!☘️ Excellent playing on the Chilis song.

Just saying
What's the difference between paint they were using so the older ones aren't clown butst but nicely faded and these aren't?
Rad guitar! Thanks!
Nothin kicks ass as much as a vintage strat!
Fuck freakin yes!
Yes Straturday 🎸
Mark You say there is always a gibson style in the epiphone family I just got a 36 Blackstone which gibson is the same style.

I'm still saying you should give away the couch at 300k....BTW have any vintage ukuleles?
Gorgeous guitar. But I wish people would stop calling them "4 (or 3) bolt necks". Those are not bolts, they are wood screws.
When you say mid sixties strat ,i think this guitar, then i heard it ,yep ,nice job Agi
Sic
Rad strat...why couldn't I be rich instead of handsome....
I’m both,my reflection tells me this every day
Second song sounds like Ween's Push the 'lil Daisies
