  • Erik Bruhn choreographed a version of Romeo and Juliet which he and Carla Fracci danced with the Rome Opera Ballet in 1966. Between performances they went to a television studio and recorded the balcony scene seen here. A year later, the two danced it with the American Ballet Theatre in New York.

OMG. They are superb. I grew up never hearing of either of them. But they embodied exactly what my teachers were trying to encourage.

They dance so perfect and beautiful together, you can feel all the emotions from the scene.

They were great in this, she always put on a great performance, he could sometimes look a bit frail especially in his later years but i thought he was very good in this fracci always brought tge best out of her partners a class act

Como se nota la ausencia de estos brillantes bailarines. Ya no queda nadie de aquella época, Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn , Erick y Carla, espero que se hayan vuelto a encontrar en el Olimpo de los Dioses.

Thank you for posting. I've wondered why there have been so few mentions of their partnership in the obituaries for Carla Fracci. It was one of the great ballet partnerships of the 20th century.

I guess it might be because Erik Bruhn belonged to the generation too early to be remembered as living performers but not early enough to be a legend. He is unfortunately under appreciated by today's audience. However, they were undoubtfully legendary partners of the 20th centry.

@@rednight3507 ive always loved fracci and thought her as an italian Fonteyn. Its only recently i hve come to appreciate Bruhn more even though ive watched as much as possible about him. i Think he comes into his own with fracci and watching him with her in La sylphide made me feel a lot different about him. Like all great dancers they have certain roles they excel in and others not so suited but certainl seems perfect for Carla

Do you see that momentous moment when the two look at and within one another? Erik in interview admitted he longer to be recognized for who he is as an individual soul, being: without costume or character to hide behind. I am convinced he put that moment of discovery and encounter in this dance do that this wish, hope and dream could be realized - if only in art form and on stage. Margot and Rudolph had a similar "double fantasy" in their dance... But they were different people, with different modes of self-expression. To each his own🎆

J prefer Roméo-Juliette R Cranko-Marcia Haydee , same era 1965-66 , Fonteyn to old ! Juliette is a teenager , false Shakespeare so why Juliette wouldn't be a black ? can you tell me ?

They were very good,,,but NOTHING like Nureyev and Fonteyn....they weren't as "fluid" or passionate,,,,,,nor does even try to kiss her, hmmmm..

      Kay,
The intimacy their characters in their dance is the recognition of and mingling within one another's souls.
      and, btw:
It was the individual coaching sessions received from Erik Bruhn that was sought by Nureyev, and gave him the polish that enabled him to gain (and maintain ) the partnership with the great Miss Fonteyn. (From the onset, Nureyev did not seek merely a social relationship with Bruhn; he wanted... to be able to dance like him).
