So, throughout the series, certain lines of dialogue are repeated to draw the audience’s attention to the Reapers (both thematically and directly). For example, when Joker unshackles EDI in ME2, she says, “I have control!” The specific wording and inflection seems to draw the audience to remember Harbinger’s infamous “Assuming direct control” line when it possesses a Collector Drone. This is a thematic connection that I think is meant to cause the player to consider the relationship between EDI and the Reapers in that moment. With this in mind, I think that Morinth’s line is meant to insinuate a relationship between Morinth and the Reapers, since we also hear Harbinger state “We are your genetic destiny” during combat with a possessed Drone. However, I think this is insinuating a direct relationship, as in I think Morinth has at some point come into contact with Reaper tech and become indoctrinated. One bit of evidence for this is how, if Morinth survives to ME3, she’s among the Banshees at the Monastery, meaning either she returned to the monastery willingly (unlikely) or she led the reapers there because she was already indoctrinated. So I don’t think it has anything to do with the Ardat Yakshi ACTUALLY being evolutionarily preferable to non-AY. It’s more likely just Reaper indoctrination drivel foreshadowing the role of the AY in the Reapers’ invasion.
That’s a good argument, sounds pretty good too. Of course my videos are theories & straddle that line between fact & fiction cause it promotes dialogue like this. I do like to think that out there is some 30,000 year old Asari AY that is so stupidly powerful from absorbing others minds and the Asari know and just hide it or something. Would be wild
This one I'd have to disagree with. The codex and a few conversations make it quite clear that no genetic material is shared when asari meld. The mother passes 2 sets of her own genes along to her offspring, 1 being randomized as a result of the melding. The baria frontiers saleswoman even said a little radiation would accomplish the same thing. That said it would make the asari far less genetically diverse than other races where the dna of the child is a 50/50 split of the parents. AYs are likely a result of inbreeding of sorts, which is harder to avoid given the more similar 2 asari are, the less the "father" is going to cause that second set of the mother's genes to be modified, resulting in genetic stagnation. About 1% of asari are on the AY spectrum, but I don't know if that means they're full AYs or just share some of their personality traits and are at higher risk of producing AY children. I'd assume 1% are not full AYs as that would probably be hundreds of millions of asari, and that would be a LOT of AY monasteries to cover up. It might have been more common in the asari's past, but it was still clearly rare enough to be largely considered a myth akin to vampires. AYs may indeed gain increased longevity or power from melding, but it's unclear if it's temporary or not. Still, even if they could be immortal, their genetic makeup would always be 100% asari. It's debatable if melding with aliens even causes their traits to be adapted into the child or if it's merely a result of parenting. At best alien DNA is used as a roadmap when randomizing asari genes.
Yeah I know Asari offspring are 50/50 but it is interesting how the AY gene basically reverses the idea and instead gives the “power” to the AY solely instead of a child. Obviously I can’t prove AY are immortal but if what Morinth is saying that it is their genetic Destiny then it would make sense. As always my videos are made to stir up discussion, so thank you and thanks for watching 🤘🏻🔥
@@EndymionTv Possibly, but then again Morinth is too egotistical to admit she's just an evolutionary dead end. Of course she'd assign undue importance to the AYs. As well she hasn't lived anywhere near a natural asari lifespan, so she wouldn't know if her activities were extending her life.
If you listen to the conversation with Samara in ME 2 its clear her daughters are the only known Ardat-Yakshi in the galaxy so if you kill Moranth and with only one daughter surviving ME 3 and under control. The bigger twist would come if in the next game Liara a pure blood becomes a Justicar. After training with Samara as her baby with Shepard turns into a Ardat-Yakshi. Its not a reach, considering Liara mind melds with Shepard before the final battle in ME 3. And with regards to the fact this is only a issue that affects pure blooded Asari well its never really disclosed what the Lazarus Project did to bring Shepard back. And TIM was doing all sorts of alien experimentation at the time, so is it too much of a stretch. Just saying 600 years on its one way to bring some of Shepard along too.
as far as we know AYs do not occur when melding with other species. And while Liara is pureblood, Aethyta was not, likely further reducing the risk. The ME2 codex also says that the AYs are far more common than the asari like to let on, with around 1% of asari at least having AY traits, even if they're not full on "death by snu snu" AYs. Also banshees are created exclusively from AYs, so there were certainly far more than 3.
Really interesting topic in Mass Effect Andromeda they discused that the wat Asari steal benefitial genes is similar to the Ketts exaltation at least in concept so if the Kett end up inviding the milky way in the next Mass Effect i can defentley see them wanting to Exalt Asari in the next Mass Effect if the Kett end up returning i would love to see more exalted versions of other Milky Way species imagine how badass exalted Humans and Turians would look like
I think it would be cool if they made it so when the radar yakshi mind melded they absorbed all the memories and experiences so that they were like the perfect infiltrator or something along those lines like if one did that to joker all the sudden they could fly a ship like the best pilot in the galaxy or something cool like that, just a thought!
I somewho wondered myself how the Ardat-Yakshi came to be... The Asari found the Citadel in 580 BCE (from what we know by lore the last resistance of Protheans was squished in or arround 48,000 BCE), either AY was a pretty rare condition or, it didn't always manifest.. That being said the faith of the goddes Athame that was actually the Asari worshipping Protheans as we learn from Javik and with a lesser extend by the VI. I could be mistaken but we never see (ingame how Asari Garden worlds like the homeworld Thessia were before the events of 2186 CE (aka ME3) maybe there was a suitable species they were able to mate with....
It is not that straight forward for if the pure blooded Asari mated and had a child then all of them would've become Ardat-Yakshi(which isn't the case at all) for if it was then the Asari species would've been wiped out within a single generation and that turned out not to be what happen and like any other disease this is the Asaris and it is a coin toss if two Asari had a child and Morinth was clearly insane as well as a serial killer that needed to be put down and I did that without any regrets.

Oh god, I'm so glad someone else typed this out so I didn't have to. Bless you.
A cool idea, though, Endy!

Thank you for watching! And yeah the Kett are strangely similar to Asari, it’s kind of odd tbh

But does AYxAY mating kills the receiving end or are they resistant?
Interesting.
Basically sex vampires then.
Yes with squid heads 😬
