  • In one of our previous videos, we have discussed the Battery Coil Ignition System. But, some engines are too small to accommodate a battery for the ignition system. One such example is the Gasoline operated Lawnmowers.
    So, do you know what kind of Ignition System they use?
    They use the Magneto Coil Ignition System. Here, a magneto, an engine-driven small generator is used as an energy source of the system instead of the battery.
    In this video, we have exclusively explained the construction, working, advantages and disadvantages of the Magneto Ignition System.
    Magneto consists of primary and secondary windings wound over it and there is also a permanent magnet. All other components of the system and the working are similar to that of Battery Coil Ignition System.
    The system has an ignition switch, a contact breaker, capacitor, distributor and the spark plugs.
    When the magnet rotates, the flux linkage with the coil changes which induces an emf in the primary coil. The current due to this emf flows through the primary circuit. But, as soon as the contact breaker opens, the circuit breaks and the magnetic field around it collapses. This induces a very high voltage in the secondary coil which is used for producing the sparks.
    This system requires less space and less maintenance. But, the intensity of the spark produced at low speeds will be less. This is its major disadvantage.
    Stay tuned to know about the other types of the ignition system.

    Why does magnetic field change around coil when current starts flowing through capacitor

    • @TanmayaPati
      @TanmayaPati 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since capacitor store charge so ,ore current flow to primary coil

    • @yueibm
      @yueibm หลายเดือนก่อน

      The capacitor can only flow a small amount of charge (current x time) before its voltage is charged up to equal to the magneto voltage. No current flows once the two sides are equal voltage (equipotential). This causes current to stop flowing, which means current flow in the primary transitions from high current to low current. A change in current and hence change in magnetic flux through the primary induces (via magnetic induction) a voltage in the secondary. Because the secondary is wound around the same magnetic core as the primary but with many more turns, a much higher voltage develops in the secondary, enough to create a spark when dielectric breakdown occurs across the spark plug.

    Also please understand how current works, the secondary coil DOES NOT INDUCE A HIGH CURRENT instead in induces a HIGH VOLTAGE CURRENT, most times this current will be low, as energy is conserved P = V*I when we increase V , I must decrease respectively for a fixed Power P

  • @mellbillbiju6135
    @mellbillbiju6135 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pease review this video again, the working of capacitor and contact breaker is ambiguous, 1) what is the point of the capacitor in this circuit ? 2) When the magnetic poles change won't that change the direction of current ? Please explain this clearly !

    • @balum8725
      @balum8725 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The capacitor is charged when the contact points are open and then instantaneously discharges which causes the change of flux in the secondary coil to double, this induces even more high voltage compared to no capacitor. Capacitor also prevents arcing across the points.
