Nice video. What I have learned is that before buying a new laptop, you first need to start with the intended use and your present software/applications. The cost of replacing software can exceed the cost of the laptop, so chose your operating system wisely. Second: A laptop for business is going to be configured differently than one for gaming, music, film editing, etc., or used as a tablet substitute. Third is number of ports. The Apple has only 2 USB "C" ports. That is a serious limitation if your laptop is going to be used as a workstation, or in an office where you need to connect to a wired LAN. Buying an Apple Air or one of these lightweight (thin) travel oriented laptops means that you are going to have to buy a USB-C hub or docking station. Your video hit the mark.
The Apple Port problem is really what turned down the Mac Air for me. I use my laptop both as a travel and as a work station, and as a current Asus user, I just have basically everything hooked up to my USB-As...
I love that you've included the iPad too. I've been using the 2018 Pro for two years now as a full-time "laptop" with absolutely no problems (both for office work and studying). The only thing I really miss are some formatting options in Microsoft Word but that happens only rarely and when it does I can just use a desktop computer to finalise whatever document I am working on.
The formatting thing for me would be a massive deal breaker since I’m reading essays from literally everywhere on the internet I need to be able to access 99% of things at all times. Thanks for helping me scratch off one of my choices😅

Why is everyone so afraid to just say it? AMD is absolutely, without question the best mobile CPU at the moment, better performance with less heat, no throttling (a major issue on Intel laptops) and better battery live. There is no "kind of" in that, it is what it is, time manufacturers faced up to it and gave us more AMD options at the high end.
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou other than the CPU its also about their shitty cooling solutions. Like they prioritizing laptop thinness way too much to the point that fans are also thin. Not to mention that one Macbook that doesn't have copper fin for some fkin reason
I can't say I understood everything but I think that this video has given me something to work with while I look for something to replace my hand me down laptop which is older than I can remember
Superb breakdown. Comprehensive, unbiased and honest. Size and shape really matter. You mentioned the advantage of 16.10 over 16.9 - take a 13 inch 16.9 and a 13 inch 4.3 - the latter will have far more screen real estate!
It wouldn't be of much use if it didn't. How would you speak to anyone ? Most people know that any calls made through a cellphone are recorded and police, government and government agencies can access your calls, where they were made from, time, date and which cell tower which can triangulate with other cell towers to give your location at the time the call was made. You may want to catch up on what Mr Snowden has to say about the government and how they use cellphones to access private information. Israel has developed spy software called Pegasus and sell it to other countries who want to keep tabs on news reporters and what they have or had to say.
Can't wait to see myself upgrade from a i7-8750H/ gtx 1050 laptop to something that suits me as a semi-gamer/ content creator (needs to be able to render 4k res video pretty fast).
I love the fact that most of these guides I've seen so far in my research for a great laptop, everyone has been using a MacBook to do their own work. & If I want almost the same power (hopefully) and at least half the battery life. I'll have to spend way higher than what a MacBook will cost. Edit: Even after accessories.
I recently paid £699 for a Huawei Matebook X Pro 2019 on Amazon. It's configured with an i7-8656u / Nvidia MX250 / 512gb SSD / 8gb RAM. Couldn't be happier with it! I definitely recommend going for an older model as there are little to no improvements in the newer 2020/2021 models and you save a tonne of cash. The 2020 equivalent of my laptop is listed on Amazon for £1299!
Great summary and much appreciated. Heaps of info covering the different brands, types and specs. Aiming to upgrade to one of the mid-price new ones with larger screen, to replace a 6 year old 11" screen McBook Air
Decided to replace my aging macbook from 2015 with a Huawei Matebook X Pro 2020 (i5, MX250, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD) for just 800 bucks. My first windows laptop. Awesome video btw :)
I upgraded my old laptop to SSD and doubled the RAM. It now feels like a new laptop and I saved £399.99 plus in doing so. RAM cost me £28.99 and the SSD was an old spare Samsung 850 Evo 256 gig. Windows 10 installed like a dream and the key to activate worked fine.
So i did , but new generation laptops are offer more value in terms of better Ips displays , more efficient battery life, usb 3.0 gen 2 n more at the same 300 $
I've been doing all of my "stuff" on my android phone and have toyed with the idea of getting a larger screen, but perhaps a laptop. I've recently exhumed my old desktop, sat gathering dust at the back of a cupboard for 3+years, so imagine my delight when it sprang back to life, with even the correct date and time (how does it know????) Clearly I need to get up to speed with what's the go with portable devices.... looking forward to your updates :)

Great review! I only have one doubt, that ia barely ever addressed by reviewers. How does a gaming pc perform out of the gaming realm? I see intel showed up some months ago with the evo certification, which displays a nice boost in performance. But, for example, how do a legion 5i or acer nitro (more in my budget) perform on booting up time, internet browsing, just overall pc surfing stuff? I come from an OLD, REALLY OLD intel i4 nvidia gt 740m laptop, so even a stone will feel faster (55 sec boot up time at best) but I cant afford buying a gaming console and a pc cause I need something for the whole family, so i was wondering how a gaming pc can perform on those kind of tasks, otherwise i'll be forced to move onto a lenovo yoga, slim or anyway a much more oriented productivity pc. Sorry for the long post, hope someone has an answer on this topic. Blessing y'all
On the market for a new cheap mostly for work laptop lots of excel to do :) Been using my mac for almost 8 years now with absolutetly no problem but I need windows and this was very informative thank you. Also subscribed!
Thanks for such an informative presentation. It will help me make an educated choice in purchasing a new laptop. However, slow down just a pinch for the old schoolers, lol.
I dont agree with your first point, the majority of people buy laptops maybe once every 4+ years so spending a little bit extra on say an entry level m1 macbook compared to 500 on a subpar middle of the line windows laptop is a big advantage. How many stories have you heard of people returning or selling their lower level laptops and upgradining.
You really failed if you didn't mention that the power a laptop is able to deliver to the graphic card will make a particularly important difference this year, to the point a 3060 might be better than a 3070 or even 3080.
@@AikiraBeats Well! The Dell is great for the music video (video just released on youtube). It is a bit slow at times but unsure if it's something i'm doing. I haven't tried my new Macbook with M1 chip for music videos yet to compare but I find that one great for the music production & the scarlett 4i4, especially with so many instruments being played and blended etc :)
Fun fact, you can live the high end life by selling your high end stuff for half the price and buying new high end stuff again. It means you live the highend life for half the price.
I often think it would be nice to review older laptops that are a couple of more years old in that have they had any issues to look out for. For example, I purchased an MSI PE70 6QE from someone and whilst it wasn't perfect, it was cheap enough for what I wanted to do with it. However, I am now wanting something better because not only did the screen break from the hinge at the bottom left corner because MSI are notorious for overtightening the hingest (especially 17 inch screens) and although it only has a GTX 960M 2 gig card, it will still play the games nicely and much better than my previous gaming one (Acer 7750G).... I know I know lol
I have been contemplating getting the base MacBook Air to have as a companion to the iMac that I purchased last fall for working from home. The iPad is great but there is enough it cannot do while I am away from my desk that I do miss having a proper laptop.
Exactly what I needed. I have a Surface Pro 4 and it is running a bit short on performance and I want to replace it. I first thought about the Surface Pro 7 i7 but now I'm not so sure anymore and I'm looking at HP Envy 360 or HP Pavilion and Dell laptops. With that things got complicated Intel/AMD, 2-1/Classic, Intel generation 10 or 11. The video that you made is very good and does not make it easier. 😁 The only thing that is clear to me is that it has to be fast ( i7 or Rizen 7), 16 GB memory, more than 256 GB SSD and 15“ 1080p touchscreen. 🤷♂️
As an upcoming College student, I’m genuinely confused whether I want a MacBook or a Windows laptop. I’d like to game (although it’s not a big deal), but one of the biggest factor is which is better for video editing? Any recommendations would help!
@@skillz321407 I haven't found a definite answer yet, but I'm kinda leaning into a Windows laptop just for the sake that it's able to run tons of apps compared to the limited apps within the Apple ecosystem. Either way, both laptops are good for vid editing and use in general so I wouldn't rly mind either one
If you normally use Andriod products like Samsung phones then probably get a Windows laptop. But if you like iPhones and Apple products then a MacBook. I'll always go with Windows and it's great, but it kinda depends on what you're used to and prefer (also they last just as long as Macbooks, unlike what he said in the video) :-)
Love, love the video, love the details, the differences between the operating systems. The only negative I could find about the video is how you mentioned that those customers who choose Apple devices aren't techies. I actually consider myself a techie. I don't have my own channel or anything, but I love tech. The reason why I go or have a MacBook is just that I love the design, how well the operating system functions, and just seems more polished than Windows. You are right that if you have an iPhone, it just makes more sense to have an Apple laptop because of iMessage and Airdrop. Outside of that, the video is awesome and is a prime example of why I subscribe to your channel :)
Glad you enjoyed it! I didn't mean it to come across that way. I'm a techie and the MBP is my main laptop. But I would say for non techies it's easier to use

06:11 That Inbetweeners suggestion 👀
That's the first thing I noticed too! 😂
Superb breakdown. Comprehensive, unbiased and honest. Size and shape really matter. You mentioned the advantage of 16.10 over 16.9 - take a 13 inch 16.9 and a 13 inch 4.3 - the latter will have far more screen real estate!
I'm convinced that my phone hears everything I say
You and me both
That's because it actually does. People have investigated this
It indeed does :)
I am convinced that it see’s everything
It wouldn't be of much use if it didn't. How would you speak to anyone ? Most people know that any calls made through a cellphone are recorded and police, government and government agencies can access your calls, where they were made from, time, date and which cell tower which can triangulate with other cell towers to give your location at the time the call was made. You may want to catch up on what Mr Snowden has to say about the government and how they use cellphones to access private information. Israel has developed spy software called Pegasus and sell it to other countries who want to keep tabs on news reporters and what they have or had to say.
Ahh I should've watched this before I bought my new laptop a few months ago. Despite that, this was a real eye opener. Great stuff
In the process of looking for a new laptop. Thanks so much for this!
@@lukeszns I have no idea if it's an M1. It certainly early 2015 and only has 128Gb of space which is often problematic.
Decided to replace my aging macbook from 2015 with a Huawei Matebook X Pro 2020 (i5, MX250, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD) for just 800 bucks. My first windows laptop. Awesome video btw :)
"Size matters, as does the shape actually"
That's what she said.
So i did , but new generation laptops are offer more value in terms of better Ips displays , more efficient battery life, usb 3.0 gen 2 n more at the same 300 $
cries in soldered ram ;p

I've been looking for recommendations on all the topics you covered and must say you are the best!
The Zephyrus G14 2021 with Ryzen 9 5900HS and RTX 3070 is looking really sweet.

This has a good timing! My laptop is crashing and I am planning to buy a new one.
I'm torn though, I cannot afford the Zenbook, but it's my dream laptop as I love playing games, and I also want the Macbook Air or Pro because it's in my budget.
AHHHHH IM SO EXCITED FOR THESE NEW LINEUPS! I’m planning on getting the zephyrus g15 with 3060.

Great video. I returned my MSI GS66 Stealth with i7 10750H, 1Tb m.2 nvme ssd, 16Gb DDR4 and GTX 1660 ti, 240Hz screen for a Lenovo Legion 5 r7 5800H, RTX 3060 130 TGP, 16Gb DDR4 3200MHz, 1Tb nvme ssd, 165Hz 1080p ips screen and it's thermals are great and the performance is great too.
You should have released the video last week... now I buy already! The Aero 15, 15gb Ram, GTX 2060, OLED.... Hope to be proved a nice addition.
How do you have 15gb ram?
If it's true, you got scammed bro xD

Please update in a few days/weeks on what you feel about the laptop, because I am saving up for the same one. Maybe the 16 GB version, but with a 2060.
I will be grateful :)
Never used macOS before, but the apple silicon makes the switch worth it. MacBook Air is superior to anything on the Windows side.
Would love to see you do a comparison review of Linux laptops; gaming and non-gaming!

I would love to see a review between a 2060 and 3060 laptops.
This helped me decide what laptop to buy i went with a chrome book as I only need it for school work and writing
That's nice what do you write?
Thanks for such an informative presentation. It will help me make an educated choice in purchasing a new laptop. However, slow down just a pinch for the old schoolers, lol.
I dont agree with your first point, the majority of people buy laptops maybe once every 4+ years so spending a little bit extra on say an entry level m1 macbook compared to 500 on a subpar middle of the line windows laptop is a big advantage. How many stories have you heard of people returning or selling their lower level laptops and upgradining.
That’s great review. Good to see all round laptop choices. Will help me in my buying. Choice. 👌💻
Thanks! Really informative and just the right balance of technical information. I always check in here first before buying a new one.
*AWESOME VIDEO!* Your Videos Are Always INTERESTING & HELPFUL! 🔥
You go so fast, my head is spinning. I cant process this. Need to watch it all over again, lol.
Absolutely awesome comparison. Well done mate.
You really failed if you didn't mention that the power a laptop is able to deliver to the graphic card will make a particularly important difference this year, to the point a 3060 might be better than a 3070 or even 3080.
I’m about to start using my dell g3 for music and video production, wish me luck. Thanks for you video, loads to think about for future
How's the laptop going I'm tempted to get one
@@AikiraBeats Well! The Dell is great for the music video (video just released on youtube). It is a bit slow at times but unsure if it's something i'm doing. I haven't tried my new Macbook with M1 chip for music videos yet to compare but I find that one great for the music production & the scarlett 4i4, especially with so many instruments being played and blended etc :)
Thanks for including the mention on Chromebooks as I needed to find one for web browsing only. 1M+ ...
Thanks for this extensive guide on laptop, Chap. Mine is quite old but i hope it can go on for few more years tho. Anyway I'd go with a PC laptop.
I just bought the MSI Prestige Evo 14 on clearance on Best Buy and has been great so far. Love the backlit keys that illuminate so bright.
Respect for putting that clip of you getting drunked on in the gulag into the vid
I have been contemplating getting the base MacBook Air to have as a companion to the iMac that I purchased last fall for working from home. The iPad is great but there is enough it cannot do while I am away from my desk that I do miss having a proper laptop.
Really waited for this video. Awesome 🤩.Love from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
The only thing that is clear to me is that it has to be fast ( i7 or Rizen 7), 16 GB memory, more than 256 GB SSD and 15“ 1080p touchscreen. 🤷♂️
As an upcoming College student, I’m genuinely confused whether I want a MacBook or a Windows laptop. I’d like to game (although it’s not a big deal), but one of the biggest factor is which is better for video editing? Any recommendations would help!
What did you find out because im looking for the same.
Windows mate.
Mr. Tech Chap, very close to buying a new laptop. My current Dell takes approximately 10 minutes to start-up. I’ve had it for 10 years now.
Would be good to see some reviews of Alienware's new laptops with RTX 3000 series!
I work for dell, Alienware is trash...don't ever buy one. Go with G series
Their pcs are better than laptops, big as hell tho
Easy pick..... 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Or wait for redesign and spec bump w MacBook Pro’s 14” MiniLED upgraded CPU and more ram options.
hi can you recommend a laptop that can be used for digital art and collage?? i'd really appreciate it
me too i need one! probably air or legion 5 is what im looking at currently
This is so helpful and informative! You saved me cause I really have no idea on what is the right laptop to choose 😩 Thank you so much!!
A great video especially for newbies! Well done in keeping it simple but still very interesting too! 👍
@@Thetechchap I would very much agree with that. And I kinda knew you didn't mean it like that, but thank you for responding :)
