    BMW tech here. Those ISM (integrated supply modules) can throw you for a loop, but generally are the main distribution for voltages in very late E Chassis and are in all F chassis vehicles. Even rodent damage on an oil level sensor harness on an F30 328i can blow an internal fuse in them.

  • @cindyeva7454
    @cindyeva7454 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    We have had quite a few of those,all engine electrical goes through that ism,inside is a circuit board with ordinary fuses soldered to it,keep the old one,you can open it,convert it to removable fuses and use it as a testbox in the future,if you get a short in engine electrical youll want it for diag.,otherwise youll be blowing through new modules until you find the short

    Talk about day time training. When I was in flat rate, i had to take losses on cars that had crumbs of info, but in the end it was a learning experience, only the most expensive ones, since it killed my paycheck. Lack of info seems to be what euro service info does best. People don't realize how complex these cars are, and some shop owners as well. They say "it's just a car," I say it's a 20-40 computers on wheels. The car is only what those computers are laid on. Thanks for sharing this one, I'll know what to look for if need be. Btw lack of info sure is better then just plain deceiving info. Jaguar is notorious for sending techs down the wrong road with just plain outright lies in their info. The only thing you can trust is their diagrams. Goods share Mike! On to the next one

    Good Day @Flat Rate Master I am having similar issue. The X5 E70 35i Cranks but doesn't start.
    In the Integrated Supply Module(Power Distribution Fuse Box-Z11) the last fuse F03 of 15A keeps on blowing OFF when I connect the battery.
    Things I have noted
    1. When I disconnect the HFM the fuse Doesn't Blow OFF
    2. Connect the HFM and disconnect the the connector with 3 pins (X60184) the fuse Doesn't Blow OFF
    3. when I Disconnect all the Connectors from DME and when checking for a short circuit I get a small short circuit like behavior from the +ve terminal(which we use to Jump Start the Car) which is in the engine compartment. and when I disconnect the FRM connectors from the Fuse box A4010 the +ve terminal doesn't show the short circuit.
    Below is the Error codes I am getting when everything is connected and the Z11 F03 Fuse blown state:
    332F
    2E4B
    2D52
    2D9C
    2C89

    Gotta love these Euro cars. Dealing with a 2011 X5 right now. Crank no start. I replaced the IVM and still no start. Same code. Wish I was lucky as you, the battle continues. Staring to thing the DME took a shit since its not grounding pin 4 at the ivm. Even more fun is that you would think if I bypassed it and grounded it myself it would work. Nope. Because Das auto. One morning just tried to turn it on and nothing, just cranks but do no starts, I change the fuse box, because I found some rust and green/blue salt over terminal , seem slike some water was leaking for some time, but... the same issue. Just cranks but does not start. The failures I have from the scanner are A03B CAS starter motor terminal 50, 2EFE DME fan activation, 2F44 DME prevent manipulation. Do you have an idea what may causes the failure. I am really angry and desperate. thank you

    I've had the front power distribution box puzzling me a lot on an X3. I think it was a 2011. It was giving me DSC undervoltage code, and the car would loose power, power steering, all lights in kombi would light up, but of course it was intermitent and never acting up in the shop. I work at a dealership so I was able to have BMW help me on this one. This is the main reason I love these cars. They are not always easy to fix!!!

    I’m dealing with this now on a f15 x5. Main code is same definition as your first code. Ista code is 1f4a10. Opened the ism. All fuses good. Put it back. Still crank No start. Swapped ism from a donor car. Still same. Checked the power distribution box on top of the battery. Also has unserviceable fuses. This is kicking my ass. All modules are communicating. @sebastiantevel898 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the video.
    Basically who designed this car was really ingenuous.... they put an electronic board inside a gutter.
    Yes it is a gutter since that compartment where this module is sitting, is designed to flow water coming down from passenger side windshield and then expelling it through a tiny drain at the bottom. The drain is very thin, is about 2 millimeter wide and 3 centimeters long. Leaves and sand will find their way to clog it and water will accumulate, especially after a car wash.... and it will rise to the level where the board is sitting and splash or submerge it.
    The system is ingenuous, because it will not trigger a failure that will ruin the engine or very expensive parts. For the brand would look very bad when an engine grenade, yet this little bitch module failure will require a lot of trouble shooting and trial and error with parts that will be bought and cannot be returned if no needed and hours that will be billed. If the car ends at a dealer shop, they may fix it in an hour, because they know better, yet they will replace a starter motor even if not needed, after all the car wasn't starting was it? Than charge a 1200$ to the customer just replacing a 140$ part.
    These little "design flaws" are an ATM for BMW.

    I know this is an old video so this post is an FYI to anyone working on beamers. I began my education on BMW about 10 years ago. Just recently I had a similar issue on a BMW no crank no start. I have discovered that BMW doesnt always send updates in their paper book wiring diagrams nor online wiring diagrams to the companies they contract for said info. On top of that they wont give complete data on the fuse box descriptions for their fuses; unk if that is on purpose or not. I had to stare for a week at wiring diagrams until I tgought my eyes were gonna fall of my face. Turns out there was a splice connection after the fuse that blew, once it blew it removed power to the EWS transmitter so no key chip data to the EWS module and no ECM authorization to power the starter. Since fuses dont blow without cause I then looked for the location of that splice connection but couldnt find it, it wasnt listed. There was a splice that was a few numbers off, but my splice I was looking for was non existant in that diagram. All I could surmise is BMW had an update but didnt notify the wiring diagram company I was using. I got lucky, replaced the fuse and the car ran fine, without further complications.

    Wouldnt it be interesting if the supplier of the wiring diagrams or the manufacturer of the vehicle, could be held liable for published misinformation, poor engineering or negligence for not updating the known incorrect information that's out there. The bottom line is you cared enough and had the detrrmination to see it through to the fix! I commend you. You get a Gold star next to your name for this one.....I have to wonder if the customer has any idea how blessed they are to have found someone like you.

    Just lime the chevy 2500 we had last week. No turn signals, kept blowing 15amp fuse. No where in schematic is side view mirror listed, but sure enough, we happened along a wire that is part of that circuit. Took care of that wire, problem solved.

    So the reason you couldn't find that module is cause it's not a module it's a terminal, terminal 37 to be exact and it has like 6 fuses inside. I'm not trying to be a know all just thought I'd mention why it was hard to find.

    That's one of those things that pisses me off beyond belief with this industry is the lack of information or incorrect information. Its a good thing we just plug a computer in and it tells use whats wrong with that car, right!

    where did you get a hold of ISTA? how much the signup fee?

    • @flatratemaster
      @flatratemaster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      www.bmwtis.com/, you will need an approved J box or Icom the BMW interface and a Window 10 PC that meets requirements, it is $30 a day

      If you just need a code reader I would recommend you to download B-tool around 12$ i guess from APP Store and use a OBD2 wired Connector to check the faults. Its a handy tool for all BMW Owners. Codes are explained in German so I use google or N55 doc related to fault codes to understand and rectify the issue

    There is nothing more frustrating than working on a code that shows no information! Then where you go? You did very good my friend. I'll recommend you to contact Autologic and try the Drive Pro. Their support team is the best! You will never have an issue like this and never would take you days to fix a car. Drive Pro cover all Euro-Asian-Domestic. Price is better than Snap on and a litter over Autel, support fee is less than $300 a month. So depending on the flow of programing and coding a month it makes completely sense!
    I am a happy owner and would be a loyal costumer of Autologic for long time.

      Thanks my friend. I have thought about Autologic we shall see, ISTA is cheap at 30 a day and have a jbox as long as it isn't a fcar, may wind up with an ICOM at some point
