I’m using AFG surflon 20lb test black coated wire. I’m only worried about pickerel where I’m fishing. You will probably want to go stronger for pike. You have to find the correct shelve to go with the wire you purchase. Most catalogs and web sites will tell you which one you need for the wire you’re using. You can always ask a salesperson at a local fishing shop. I ordered my supplies at www.jannsnetcraft.com
Good Video. I just got some materials to make wire leaders after Bluefish were cutting our 40 lb test in the surf the last couple of days. Frustrating! Lol
You can use regular pliers but you will not get as strong of a crimp. I highly recommend a set of crimping pliers. Your taking a risk of loosing a good fish with a weak crimp.
Hi- brilliant video. Can I ask- what measurement are the crimps (sleeves) you're using there? (I assume they have a length and internal diameter in their description)? Also, I know the wire is 20lb strength, do you happen to know its diameter is? This isn't as important for me to know as the sleeves one though, so if it doesn't give a measurement on the package that's no problem!
Useful idea. Thanks 👍🏻
USA! Thanks for Sharing!
We have the same problem bass fishing too. Great video.

I don’t know the actual size. I’m using AFW surflon 20lB. Test. You need to use Sleeve #3 with this wire.
@@timgrant6939 ok cheers
I see you are crimping over the black poly coating ? Don't you need to shave off the black plastic
coating so it will not slip ?
I've never had one slip on me. But remember I'm catching small fish with this set up. (Chain pickerel)
