Same here. This was the main reason why I just couldn't bring myself to care about Y2's story - though definitely not the only reason (every single character being a Secret Korean, a dozen betrayals in a row in the finale, the absurd number of times characters in this game were left to just bleed out when they definitely could have lived if they had gotten to a hospital instead of expositing backstory for 20 minutes or insisting on another fight after I ALREADY BEAT YOUR ASS ONCE WHEN WE WERE AT FULL HEALTH, RYUJI, WHY DO YOU WANT A REMATCH WHEN WE'VE BOTH BEEN SHOT EVEN THOUGH A DAY AGO YOU THOUGHT FIGHTING ME INJURED WASN'T A TRUE VICTORY??? And even then, I could see Ryuji still wanting his deathmatch, but Kiryu going along with it just does not line up for me). In regards to the food/experience point mechanics, in Yakuza 6, I ended up grinding by eating for points, then fighting to burn off the stomach gauge in order to level up Kiryu and clan members… eating and fighting, Kiryu is basically a Saiyan 😂
I can agree with you on something and that's that Majima is a sad clown, and I too want Majima to have happiness with Makoto. Like Give this guy a lady friend from one of his cabaret clubs like Yuki or Saki or something, he deserves it
To make this best I divided this into spoiler, and non spoiler sections {Yakuza kiwami 2 soundtrack} so far is my favorite in the franchise my faves include -Outlaws lullaby (It is on loop in my head) - The Sound of Breath (Plays during some of the best moments) - Heading for Kamuro Hills - A Scattered Moment (Plays at the end so kinda spoilery but I loved where this song played)
[Combat] Also yes I definitely agree combat originally was difficult and made me want to drop the game but in the end It got really fun when I finally got used to this new engine. Square, Square, Triangle, Triangle, Grab or Square, Square, Triangle, Grab. Where my go 2 combos Also the "feel the heat" moments was way better than kiwami 1 "Kiwami" heat moments as it did not feel like I was being punished for not having max heat.
{Characters / light spoilers} In terms of the introduction of characters I also missed the dojima wife sub story arc which sucks since I missed a whole badass cutscene, between Kiryu and her. Also immediately when I saw daigo I remembered the yakuza 0 mission and was happy to see that I was correct In finding out that, that was the same daigo from the older yakuza games Ryuji I liked a lot for some reason, something about him being a jackass yet still being honorable, his personality was very fun to watch as he stole every scene he was in there's more but I dont wanna dive too heavily into spoilers here but yeah he was amazing.
[substories] Substories wise I feel like this one was the best the ones i don't remember the name of the substories but i can describe my favorite ones - Fake Kiryu - Yakuza boss who likes being babied - Yuya black thunder biker gang being tied with mama - THe one with Haruka with the girl who clearly lies to the dude that simps for her and they were on a roof. - Yakuza Sunset Ragdoll physics were genuinely hilarious. I loved it.
{ Heavy Spoilers / Timestamp moments I wanted to talk about} 36:04 Not gonna lie that scene was one of my favorites because not only was the music mixed with the knife great but afterwards we see an injured man taking on an army, and Tigers to get his little girl back. Proving how badass kiryu is 43:20 100% agree about Ryuji. I loved him in this game. 44:06 That Majima scene was absolutely hilarious with the bombs. 45:21 more non lethal fighting 48:39 Loved how he finally acknowledges his sister as his own after telling the everyone he ha sno family, and he was born alone
[ Heavy Spoilers] Okay so my dude that fucking ending was insane! When the timer cut out and the credits came in I was genuinely scared for Kiryu ( I dunno why he is in at least 4 more games) but still I was on the edge of my seat.
Kinda wish the game ended with that scene and Yakuza 3 started after the post credit scene of 2 but yeah that was an amazing finale The final fight was beautiful, and going on to the Majima saga that also had another amazing ending. TO be honest I could care less about the yakuza plotline there. But finding Makoto was both funny, and heartwarming. And then finally she puts the pieces together at the end with the watch. "Ya worked out some knots I've had for 18 years' ' Hit hard and then the "I love you" Song on top of that tops off a bittersweet romance that I both wanted Majima to have, and not at the same time.
Anyways overall a great game the gameplay just needed some more tweaks in my personal opinion but really damn good If i had to rank how i feel about all the games so far 1st yakuza 0 2nd Kiwami 2 3rd kiwami 1
That's a fair point you make about climax heat actions that didn't cross my mind. I totally agree 3 should've began after the explosion. And yeah the yakuza stuff was basically a set piece to get Majima where he needed to be in order to interact with Makoto and then start a construction company. It was worth it ultimately as it was one of the best moments in the game. If I had to rank them I'd stick to what I said in this video and go 0, Kiwami, then Kiwami 2. The early section of the game where you bounce off of enemies if they block you still bothers me and is probably the biggest reason I don't want to go back to it over the others.
I don't believe that Ryuji bought Kiryu's lie. He's just smart enough to let it go. His nonchalance when Kiryu turns up at the Omi Alliance Building suggests this to be the case. Edit: Aoi is pronounced Ah-oh-ee and means 'Blue'.
Since the last update video my family and I have moved to a new location. Currently we're not in as bad of a situation like back then but with covid happening we aren't exactly out of the woods just yet. Covid also stalled the trial for an entire year and the courts as of January are just starting to move things along. Sorry I didn't make an update video as soon as I could, I wanted to comeback hitting the ground running and explain the situation after I was at yakuza 3 or 4 but these videos took a lot longer to make than I thought.
Man i haven't had such mixed opinions on a game like kiwami 2 ever before, on one hand i love it on the other it's my least favourite from the ones I've played so far Not because of the story or anything far from it apart from the ending i loved almost every part of it especially kaoru and ryuji, but the reason why i was so put of it was because i was so used to 0 and kiwami 1's combat, like i didn't fully understand what the game was asking me of like why do enemy's keep blocking mid combo and that just left a poor taste in my mouth for the rest of the playthrough HOWEVER!!! I did eventually discover how this games combo system work's and after i learned this the game quickly became better and better the more i played it (maybe this will make you like the combat system in repeat a playthrough or something) Ok let me explain it's the game's fault for not teaching the player this, even hard-core yakuza fan's don't really know how to combo in kiwami 2 But here we go: you wanna know why enemy's block mid combo? Well you need to land a "combo starter" yep just landing square isn't technically a combo starter, what you need to do is land and an attack that will stagger the thugs which will lead to a full rush combo Example's are: holding down square until kiryu does the first hit of his beast punch, Same but with holding down triangle, Square triangle where kiryu does a gut punch. An other thing is "dash cancelling" Now i know that you know ending a rush combo with triangle is the combo ender right? Well im sure you noticed in Kiwami 2 has two triangle enders well see the first triangle out of any square combo? You can dodge to cancel the combo and then continuing again with another rush combo and then end it with another ender, so you can think of the first triangle as and extension and the 2nd has the true combo ender You can also end the combo with a grab which is good for crowd control, but i think everybody already knew that Here's a really good vid showcasing what dash cancelling is he's also a really good 0 and kiwami 1 player th-cam.com/video/AeoMuoM7Vsg/w-d-xo.html Oh yea i was also disappointed at first about the no style switching but i realized the moves from the styles are all kind of squished together like how you can get the mulit quick step, the full beast combo, or the parry from rush style and a how kiryu's fighting style is a mix of brawler and dragon, still woulda preferd style switching but meh i guess its there But yea was really bummed out at first, still kinda am cause you know first impressions are kinda everything even if you know its not as bad as it seemed Also if you ever see or read all of this huge as comment thank you can't wait for the Yakuza 3 review 👍 EDIT:Oh yea parrying is also a good "combo starter"
I wish I knew all of this before I made the video. That being said I'll go back to try it out and see if I can take the information you gave me into 6 as well. Thank you for telling me.
@@riku582 trust me mate it an't your fault it's the game's for not teaching properly i was in the same boat as you, also i tried a new game recently and it turns out you can't dash canel right away i think you need to unlock the mulit quick step first in order to do it either that or the combo speed upgrade Which yea still kinda sucks on repeat playthrough's and as you said the game should just control good from the start which is a real bummer
@@riku582 No problem can't wait for your review on 3 also see the 3rd rush combo ender the one were kiryu does an upper cut then the 2nd ender does a side kicked? Yea they "can't" be dash cancelled the rest is can be tho
Update: stupid me there's a move you can get pretty early called "quickstep cancel " although it's very slow cause i think it's affected by boost quickstep and boost combo speed

Even Ruyji was done dirty with being shoved into the messy Jingweon plot. I just want a fight to see who's the only Dragon, but they slapped a non-sense boring emotional baggage to it.
You know I’ve recently finished Kiwami 2 and there’s this one thing that has been bugging me ever since finishing it: Why the hell did they give the absolute banger that is Break Off to S H I N D O ?????
Yeah I realized that before I uploaded the video but by then it was too late to fix given how many times I said it. And thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it.

In the Majima Saga part you mention how he has no counters, but he does still have his counter from 0! It’s just harder to pull off and I don’t think any of the bosses have any easy moves to pull it off with, but it’s there!
The only thing I don’t like about Kiwami 2 is that you have to had played the previous game to actually understand anything, and also all the cut content from the original. Otherwise it’s good
Riku Shineseicho(third area in OG2) was removed. The soundtrack contains only 4 songs from the original while the rest got replaced. Couple of changes in cutscenes cause the original writer is not with Sega anymore. Licensed music were changed. Club Adam side story replaced by Caberet GP. YF6 was a minigame in the original which also got cut. I love both games but Kiwami was obviously made to be more accessible to modern fans.
Speaking about the story tho, you tell me Mr. Reviewer, how can you consider it NOT to be trashy when the Jingweon plot is horrible and overlaps the Ruyji and Omi/Go-Ryu clan against Tojo, how Kaoru suddenly has emotional attachment to Ruyji despite being a Yakuza hater cop, how the last fights with Ruyji are so much built up and end up so anti-climatic and easy af, how everyone is a Jingweon survivor (sloppiest massacre ever and I am surprise Kiryu didnt end up a survivor too), dont even get me started on Terada being alive and double change of heart within minutes. Yeah, IDK...
*Yakuza 0 is the GOAT and I love Kiwami 2, Lost Judgment and LAD equally.....but Kiwami 1 is the absolute WORST, I HATED that game 😂 hated the story, hated the frustrating boss fights, hated how it looked....I just didn't like anything about it and I think it gave me brain damage.*

Substories wise I feel like this one was the best
Rag doll physics where genuinely hilarious I loved it
And the majima saga resolution with characters was funny and was bitter sweet which I loved
(Edit in the morning I will comment more and edit everything to one comment so it won’t appear as spam but im about 25 minutes done with the video and love it man I think you out dude yourself espically with throwaway comments and dry humor like when you said “kiryu gets distracted at the caberat club for six hours?”
Anyways enough of my analysis I needa sleep I’ll watch the rest and comment everything into one in the morning good job so far man
Well thanks for your comments thus far I really appreciate them all.
Imo judgments ost is the best but if we're honest, the best ost gotta go to yakuza dead souls, like sonic 06 the main game was ass but damn the ost goes hard
Kiryu was 12 during the Jingweon raid
I feel like there were a few questions there from me
7:30
*OH MY GOD HE'S SO, GOD DAMN COOL!!!*
Kiwami 2 is just a running gag of Kiryu ignoring armed foes
Hah, never thought of it like that.
@@riku582 seriously tho if kiryu just looks back and takes their gun some of the main characters wouldn’t have died not to piss on the writers just a little thing I noticed
@@sanctityninja9345 Listen, if there's one thing I learned about writing, the "no don't think about it" rule is real and will be used to get from point A to point B. Heck, I use it sometimes in these videos.
@@riku582 interesting
This was a pretty good game, I hope you review the other ones 😊 I finished 0, Kiwami 1, and Kiwami 2. I'm currently on 3.
I will I just need time to record them all.
@@riku582 Makes sense. Also, I've always pronounced the Korean mafia as jing-won(the o pronounced as an a)
@@GenAqua Yeah I found out like a couple of days ago that I pronounced Jingweon wrong but I said it too much throughout the video to fix in a reasonable amount of time.
@@riku582 S'okay. But if they come up in a future game, don't forget the pronunciation I mentioned.
@@GenAqua Yeah no problem. Thanks for the help.
"Essence of Face Suck" LMAO
Glad you enjoyed that.
22:00 Majima does have a counter
Never disappoint👏
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
@@riku582 your welcome. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into your videos
@@marcjungblut5316 Yes I do and I'm glad that other people appreciate it.
In regards to the food/experience point mechanics, in Yakuza 6, I ended up grinding by eating for points, then fighting to burn off the stomach gauge in order to level up Kiryu and clan members… eating and fighting, Kiryu is basically a Saiyan 😂
Might as well be, each game he performs feats more absurd than the last.
@@riku582 Yep, but gotta love it. Dropping the tiger is the new jumping the shark ☺️
I can agree with you on something and that's that Majima is a sad clown, and I too want Majima to have happiness with Makoto. Like Give this guy a lady friend from one of his cabaret clubs like Yuki or Saki or something, he deserves it
Thanks I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like this.
@@riku582 Your welcome, keep up the awesome content
@@uzumakiblade9695 Thanks. I really appreciate that.
He'll find some sort of happiness, just not with a woman. Chapter 4 of Yakuza 0.
To make this best I divided this into spoiler, and non spoiler sections
{Yakuza kiwami 2 soundtrack}
so far is my favorite in the franchise my faves include
-Outlaws lullaby (It is on loop in my head)
- The Sound of Breath (Plays during some of the best moments)
- Heading for Kamuro Hills
- A Scattered Moment (Plays at the end so kinda spoilery but I loved where this song played)
[Combat]
Also yes I definitely agree combat originally was difficult and made me want to drop the game but in the end It got really fun when I finally got used to this new engine.
Square, Square, Triangle, Triangle, Grab or Square, Square, Triangle, Grab. Where my go 2 combos
Also the "feel the heat" moments was way better than kiwami 1 "Kiwami" heat moments as it did not feel like I was being punished for not having max heat.
{Characters / light spoilers}
In terms of the introduction of characters I also missed the dojima wife sub story arc which sucks since I missed a whole badass cutscene, between Kiryu and her.
Also immediately when I saw daigo I remembered the yakuza 0 mission and was happy to see that I was correct In finding out that, that was the same daigo from the older yakuza games
Ryuji I liked a lot for some reason, something about him being a jackass yet still being honorable, his personality was very fun to watch as he stole every scene he was in there's more but I dont wanna dive too heavily into spoilers here but yeah he was amazing.
[substories]
Substories wise I feel like this one was the best the ones i don't remember the name of the substories but i can describe my favorite ones
- Fake Kiryu
- Yakuza boss who likes being babied
- Yuya black thunder biker gang being tied with mama
- THe one with Haruka with the girl who clearly lies to the dude that simps for her and they were on a roof.
- Yakuza Sunset
Ragdoll physics were genuinely hilarious. I loved it.
{ Heavy Spoilers / Timestamp moments I wanted to talk about}
36:04 Not gonna lie that scene was one of my favorites because not only was the music mixed with the knife great but afterwards we see an injured man taking on an army, and Tigers to get his little girl back. Proving how badass kiryu is
43:20 100% agree about Ryuji. I loved him in this game.
44:06 That Majima scene was absolutely hilarious with the bombs.
45:21 more non lethal fighting
48:39 Loved how he finally acknowledges his sister as his own after telling the everyone he ha sno family, and he was born alone
[ Heavy Spoilers]
Okay so my dude that fucking ending was insane! When the timer cut out and the credits came in I was genuinely scared for Kiryu ( I dunno why he is in at least 4 more games) but still I was on the edge of my seat.
Kinda wish the game ended with that scene and Yakuza 3 started after the post credit scene of 2 but yeah that was an amazing finale
The final fight was beautiful,
and going on to the Majima saga that also had another amazing ending.
Anyways overall a great game the gameplay just needed some more tweaks in my personal opinion but really damn good
If i had to rank how i feel about all the games so far
1st yakuza 0
2nd Kiwami 2
3rd kiwami 1
I mean she was in a bar full of dead bodies im sure she saw all that and she saw her mom die
Unfortunately you maybe right.
HYPELETS GOOOOOO
I'm glad to know you were excited for this.
Are you gonna do a Yakuza like a dragon retrospective as well? including the two Judgement spin off games??
For the gameplay peeps: 10:05
Can we get an update on your current situation with the eviction?
Since the last update video my family and I have moved to a new location. Currently we're not in as bad of a situation like back then but with covid happening we aren't exactly out of the woods just yet. Covid also stalled the trial for an entire year and the courts as of January are just starting to move things along. Sorry I didn't make an update video as soon as I could, I wanted to comeback hitting the ground running and explain the situation after I was at yakuza 3 or 4 but these videos took a lot longer to make than I thought.
@@riku582 Really glad to hear that, I was getting worried after not seeing any updates for months but hopefully you get through those hard times
@@ryadh6562 Thank you for your concern. I really appreciate your kind words.
Man i haven't had such mixed opinions on a game like kiwami 2 ever before, on one hand i love it on the other it's my least favourite from the ones I've played so far
Not because of the story or anything far from it apart from the ending i loved almost every part of it especially kaoru and ryuji, but the reason why i was so put of it was because i was so used to 0 and kiwami 1's combat,
like i didn't fully understand what the game was asking me of like why do enemy's keep blocking mid combo and that just left a poor taste in my mouth for the rest of the playthrough
HOWEVER!!! I did eventually discover how this games combo system work's and after i learned this the game quickly became better and better the more i played it
(maybe this will make you like the combat system in repeat a playthrough or something)
Ok let me explain it's the game's fault for not teaching the player this, even hard-core yakuza fan's don't really know how to combo in kiwami 2
But here we go: you wanna know why enemy's block mid combo?
Well you need to land a "combo starter" yep just landing square isn't technically a combo starter, what you need to do is land and an attack that will stagger the thugs which will lead to a full rush combo
Example's are: holding down square until kiryu does the first hit of his beast punch,
Same but with holding down triangle,
Square triangle where kiryu does a gut punch.
An other thing is "dash cancelling"
Now i know that you know ending a rush combo with triangle is the combo ender right?
Well im sure you noticed in Kiwami 2 has two triangle enders well see the first triangle out of any square combo? You can dodge to cancel the combo and then continuing again with another rush combo and then end it with another ender, so you can think of the first triangle as and extension and the 2nd has the true combo ender
You can also end the combo with a grab which is good for crowd control, but i think everybody already knew that
Here's a really good vid showcasing what dash cancelling is he's also a really good 0 and kiwami 1 player
th-cam.com/video/AeoMuoM7Vsg/w-d-xo.html
Oh yea i was also disappointed at first about the no style switching but i realized the moves from the styles are all kind of squished together like how you can get the mulit quick step, the full beast combo, or the parry from rush style and a how kiryu's fighting style is a mix of brawler and dragon, still woulda preferd style switching but meh i guess its there
But yea was really bummed out at first, still kinda am cause you know first impressions are kinda everything even if you know its not as bad as it seemed
Also if you ever see or read all of this huge as comment thank you can't wait for the Yakuza 3 review 👍
EDIT:Oh yea parrying is also a good "combo starter"
I wish I knew all of this before I made the video. That being said I'll go back to try it out and see if I can take the information you gave me into 6 as well. Thank you for telling me.
@@riku582 trust me mate it an't your fault it's the game's for not teaching properly i was in the same boat as you, also i tried a new game recently and it turns out you can't dash canel right away i think you need to unlock the mulit quick step first in order to do it either that or the combo speed upgrade
Which yea still kinda sucks on repeat playthrough's and as you said the game should just control good from the start which is a real bummer
@@manlymcbeefinton2014 I see well in that case I'll just load up new game plus and take it from there. Again thanks for the information.
@@riku582 No problem can't wait for your review on 3
also see the 3rd rush combo ender the one were kiryu does an upper cut then the 2nd ender does a side kicked? Yea they "can't" be dash cancelled the rest is can be tho
Update: stupid me there's a move you can get pretty early called "quickstep cancel " although it's very slow cause i think it's affected by boost quickstep and boost combo speed
Hey man I’ll make sure to give this video a watch when I finish kiwami 2 I’ve been busy with school and trying to get an internship
But when that’s over with and I can play this game I will 100% watch

I got 6 and K2 on sale and I’m on 6 and I agree with the combat, but when I play K2 I’ll see what was improved on. I do think extreme heat in 6 is better though
Extreme heat was better in 6 mostly because they explained how to use it. In K2 you need to figure it out as you go.
I mean,Original might be better,But I can’t deny the fact that Kiwami 2 is most fun I had in a while. It’s might not be good remake game but still being good Yakuza games that being my most favs one.
While I don’t really like Kiwami 1 that much beside main campaign,Substory in K1 mostly are just scam, scam and scam(few are very well done like Majima,Mesuking and Jo Amon).
But yeah,As you said,Kiwami 2 awfully good but could’ve been better
I'm glad you enjoyed your time with K2, and yeah the substories are pretty samey in K1, so it's understandable why you didn't gel with optional stuff.
Just commenting to support you.
Thank you.
I kinda felt like Kiwami 2 is kinda boring in terms of plots and villains of course excluding Goda
Even Ruyji was done dirty with being shoved into the messy Jingweon plot. I just want a fight to see who's the only Dragon, but they slapped a non-sense boring emotional baggage to it.
You know I’ve recently finished Kiwami 2 and there’s this one thing that has been bugging me ever since finishing it:
Why the hell did they give the absolute banger that is Break Off to S H I N D O ?????
Who knows, maybe they just couldn't find a better place to put it.
I really don’t wanna be that guy, but it’s “Jing-won” mafia not “Jing-we-on”. Great video regardless though!
Yeah I realized that before I uploaded the video but by then it was too late to fix given how many times I said it. And thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it.
How far are you in the series?
I've beaten all the numbered games including like a dragon, but recording wise I'm on 3.
@@riku582 good thing you’re not a completionist. You think this is hard to 100%? This game combined with 0 has nothing on 5
@@shizuwolf Yeah 5 is a beast to beat alone, I don't want to think about 100 percenting it.
@@riku582 yeah. I usually describe that one as the most bloated game in the series
@@shizuwolf While I do like 5 I can't deny that it's pretty long when it didn't need to be.

Oh didn't realize that. Thanks for telling me.
Tbh haruka saw her dad and mom die in front of her
She's still like 9 years old in this game. There's no way she got used to death that quickly.
@@riku582 idk made sense to me she didn't t know the guy plus he kidnapped her.
I respectfully disagree with what you said about the ending song
That's fine.
In the Majima Saga part you mention how he has no counters, but he does still have his counter from 0! It’s just harder to pull off and I don’t think any of the bosses have any easy moves to pull it off with, but it’s there!
Oh my mistake.
The only thing I don’t like about Kiwami 2 is that you have to had played the previous game to actually understand anything, and also all the cut content from the original. Otherwise it’s good
What got cut from Kiwami 2?
Riku Shineseicho(third area in OG2) was removed. The soundtrack contains only 4 songs from the original while the rest got replaced. Couple of changes in cutscenes cause the original writer is not with Sega anymore. Licensed music were changed. Club Adam side story replaced by Caberet GP. YF6 was a minigame in the original which also got cut. I love both games but Kiwami was obviously made to be more accessible to modern fans.
@@kort3982 I see, thank you for telling me.
@@kort3982 Not sure about the story changes thought at least the songs could be patched in on the PC
The mAjima story was underwhelming. I loved the closure, but i had it heated in an hour and a half, street bosses included
Yeah, that sounds about right.
10:53 koyuki isnt
Alright but the others are.
Kiwami 2 is honestly my favorite remake

Kiwami 2 > Kiwami 1 imo
Fair enough.
The names Kazuma and Kazama aren't pronounced the same way, bro. The "U" in Kazuma is basically said as an e or I, as in Kazima and Kazama is said with the last letters of Alakazam with an A on the end
I'm aware, thanks for telling me though.
