We’re not used to it in Hawaii either. Don’t let Japan get ruined the same way. We vote for same criminal politicians, who just steal our money and protect criminals, over, and over, and over! Just keeps getting worse. You also have to remember that our border is wide open and we probably honestly have been invaded by close to 100 million illegals (total) in the last 40 years (30 million in the last 3.5 years alone). New York and other states are giving criminal aliens free one way tickets to Hawaii. I see tons of non-Americans living on our streets here now. It’s very scary.

As a victim of armed robbery here in Waikiki myself. I always warn tourists to be careful. I had family asking if they should come visit I told them to save their money. There's so many nice places to visit on the mainland where it's safer and where they will be appreciated. After COVID things have changed big time.

Do people realize how bad this is? The Japanese actually do look at warnings and abide by advice unlike us in America. Hawaii depends on tourism, or maybe those in power know something we don't and we the tourist economy is a sham. The excuse of being undermanned is not acceptable. Throwing money at people to recruit them into the police department is not the answer. At some point tax payers will push back against paying for services that are not met.
