Alappuzha (also known as Alleppey), India - The Backwaters of Kerala are one of the biggest draws to Kerala, and before going, I had no idea why. After visiting, I now know that the Backwaters are one of the reasons why Kerala is known as “God’s Own Country.”
After arriving in Alappuzha (Alleppey), we headed straight to the house-boat, a luxurious floating house-boat on the Kerala backwaters. The boat was beautiful with four full bedrooms, a full upper deck with dining room and viewing platform, and most importantly, a huge kitchen with private chefs to cook us an Indian seafood Kerala meal of your dreams! #IndianFood #Kerala #Backwaters
Ebbin had arranged for a huge seafood meal on the boat. As soon as we started sailing on the Backwaters, the amazing chefs started cooking. There were over a dozen different dishes, seafood extravaganza. The meal was absolutely incredible, and the scenery of the water, lakes, rivers, and lagoons, were spectacular.
For the rest of the afternoon, we relaxed around the boat, and eventually docked for the evening in a small village. For dinner we had a simple Kerala meal of rice porridge, with a few different chutneys, and green gram, mung beans.
Sleeping on the boat was fantastic, so quiet and peaceful, and it was a joy to wake up in the morning ready to go again. For breakfast, they made one of the best egg curries I’ve ever had in my life - one of the reasons I love Kerala so much, curry for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Thank you to Alleppey Houseboat (alleppeyhouseb...) for giving us a great deal on a house-boat, and for the amazing food and service. An incredible experience, and truly God's Own Country!

I have been to Kerala twice in the last 8 years. Two of my favourite travel destinations along with Rajasthan. Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppy and Thiruvananthapuram are my favourite places in Kerala.

South India is so overlooked in the US when it comes to its food. It’s so delicious and multifaceted. Thanks so much to Mark for highlighting all its layers and complexity in this yummy Kerala series. Makes me want to go so badly even though we can’t travel now during COVID-19. 😭
Lol even Indian media doesn’t represent south India, let alone foreign media. India give no representation to south India. It’s culture, history, people, languages etc. are all ignored or degraded. It’s because indian media and government is dominated by North Indians, they have this bias towards south. It’s sad. They mostly ignore the South India and North-East part of India, which are all completely different from NORTH INDIA. 😪
Kerala food is very very different.... Kerala beef , pork , chicken curry , Kerala fish fry and fish curry... Very very tasty...... Kerala malabary dum biriyani was so tasty ... Very yummy delicious and very spicy... You want to try once in your life...

It’s a shame this kind of Indian food isn’t nearly as well known outside of India - I was lucky enough to work with a guy from Kerala and he introduced me to the food from this region
That’s true. Indian food is stereotyped and reduced to just a few North Indian delicacies.
Even in metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Delhi it's not very popular which is weird. If you ever miss it but can't go all the way to India/Kerala, go to Dubai - some very good Kerala food there!

@@human21692 bland, westernised Northern Indian restaurants is why I haven't liked Indian food or ever eaten it after I tried it once. Mark's series on Southern Indian food on the other hand...I wanna visit Southern Indian and Sri Lanka for the FOOD!! 🤤🤤🤤 (And yes, I know Sri Lanka and Indian are different countries).

I went this beautiful back water is exactly located in allapy town in kerala with my French friend. we both explored road ways near backwater canal by cycle it was awesome experiences at the time of early morning when can see lots of rare birds around over on padi fields and people are so positive and energetic....love kerala always....food? true spices reaching always kerala curries 💜 good own country yes Godness everywhere in kerala💚💚
