I think she absolutely made a mistake. She should've stayed at Louisville and tried to model her game after Kelsey Mitchell on the Indiana Fever as an undersized 2. She just doesn't have the court vision, ball handling, or decision making to be a PG full-time.

@@Hello_BeautifulPeople Kelsey Mitchell is way faster than HVL, and has a better shot and runs and finishes in transition at an elite level. Not so for Hailey.
HVL won't develop WNBA speed or quickness, and is not likely to fix her shot. Even if her shooting percentage improves next year, her low release and lack of jumping and athleticism mean she won't be able shoot off the dribble in the WNBA. And she'll never be a good defender or rebounder.

  • @charliedoyle7824

Hailey's problem as a WNBA 2-guard prospect is she doesn't have the athleticism and size, and her shot is only mediocre, and not likely to be fixed because of her weird low release. Even if she were to improve her shot, she still is slow, can't jump or rebound, can't defend at a WNBA level, and doesn't get separation with good moves.
Marina Mabrey is the model for a slow 2-guard who makes it in the WNBA (or Sabrina Ionescu), but Mabrey has a pro shooting form with high release and great range, is big, and has fantastic step-back and dribble moves. HVL has none of that.
Her only path would be as a point guard, where size is less important, but she doesn't have the speed and separation quickness and moves for playing point at the highest level, and her shot at range and finishing plus defense are still a problem.
HVL is not a serious WNBA prospect no matter where she goes.

I have been involved in basketball for 35+ years, and I think Hailey actually played pretty good defense on Clark - no one else has been able to stop her either. I do wonder why no one has tried double-teaming Clark (although her teammates are doing a great job of knocking down open 3’s) - it will be interesting to see what Geno Auriemma decides to do. With HVL's shooting she can excel there she will have many opportunities to score.

But LSU doesn't need that the team has 4 scorers that is not looking to pass the ball, she will never be a scorer in this team. It's evident early in the season that she will never be a great defender either. Quick guards will blow by her and taller players will shoot over her the only thing left is passing and playmaking. I'm so sorry for HVL because she has to wear the goat horns. But the tigers were never a great team and they were lucky to win last year they didn't have to play South Carolina in the final and Utah should have beaten them in the sweet 16.
Last season at Louisville she scored almost 20 points a game was terrific in the tournament and even went head-to-head with cc3 and did not get blown off the court she scored 27 points. She probably would have been an All-American this year maybe a third team All-American and Louisville probably would have been a top 10 caliber team. Now Hailey is going to be blamed for the subpar season for LSU.
I would love to see her transfer to Iowa and regain her scoring touch she could score 20 points a game there or more and the same with Hannah who will be a junior for the Hawkeyes. I just never got the feeling that Kim wanted hvl.

It would have been a very tough challenge for anyone to guard Clark, but Hailey isn't really known for her defence. She's too slow to keep up with Clark. She didn't do that bad in the first half, but she didn't look as good in the second half.
As for the move itself to go to LSU, Kim coaches first to benefit the team, and would put individual player development second. So while there was an opportunity on paper for Hailey, it sort of makes sense that the season unfolded the way it did. It will be very difficult for her to be a point guard in the WNBA so maybe needs to re-evaluate things. I can see her continuing at LSU (if Kim wants her) or maybe leaving since I just get the feeling it's a bit toxic there. There's plenty of other good teams that would want her, and she would likely do well there, if she goes back into the transfer portal.

LSU isn’t toxic, but due to the attention and social media, we know more about the locker room than others. The issues we had are the same as other. However, the media heel vs babyface (LSU/Gamecocks vs Clark/UCLA) gives the toxic vibe. It’s overall good for WBB.

There was no mistake in transferring to LSU. HVL wanted the heat and she got to play the best teams in the league. It's often worse before it gets better. For a team that was playing with only 7 players, they had a remarkable run. HVL style of play was not going to get her a place in WNBA. No one can develop into an elite point guard in one season while still having the pressure of defending a championship. She will be alright.

The Washington Post article was a warning to Kim Mulkey to remember to throw the game OR ELSE. Putting HVL on CC for 30 minutes instead of FJ or POA was an indicator the fix was in. The media has too much invested in CC and need her to go to the championship for ratings revenues. While Poa was in the game and HVL sat the bench, the LSU lead extended. Once HVL was back on the floor, the lead dissipated. Angel Reese limping off the court to sit out, FJ's low energy in the first half, oh but can score at will just before a quarter ends and jump around, SUS! LSU took a dive. FJ and AR are too connected into the system at this point
and Mulkey can be controlled because she has probably got a lot of dirt hidden. Now let's watch and see if Geno does something boneheaded that makes no sense to lose the final four game, too.

For all those who have negative comments about Haley let’s just say this, regardless, if she would’ve stayed at Louisville or transferred the exact same thing would’ve happened. When you stay somewhere where you’re comfortable and you know you’re perfect, you lack to see the areas you need to work on. It takes guts for any player to realize that if they wanna be pro gonna have to do something different. Angel did it, Alexis did it, Anisa did it, and so many more. If she would’ve stayed at Louisville and then tried to go pro, her rookie year would’ve been a disaster to say the least. Because she lacks skills in areas where she wasn’t able to train her perfect. The professional level is a rude awakening for so many players, who don’t have a diversified, skill set, and Haley was smart enough to know that she can’t only just be good at shooting the ball. Coming to LSU was not a mistake God works in mysterious ways. This was a year to challenge her for a year for her to reflect, and a year for her to see what she needs to work on. Y’all can judge her and be bullies online because you can’t say anything to her face, but the end of the day, her wallet still full, and she has a whole year to fix what went wrong for this year. she is braver than most and stronger than most to do what she did this year, but guess what she’s not gonna go into a pro league industry and look at the way she looked this year. No, she’ll come back next year, and she’ll be a very different player. I can guarantee that. And for all you haters out there who run your mouth and I’ve talk down to her negative way. Well, then be cheering for her and her biggest fans. Which is sad, that you tear somebody down because they had a bad year a year full of lessons is what it should be looked at. Though yet fans who choose to bully and destroy people online handmade a year to make this woman feel like she’s a failure, and that she should regret her decision. Remember the word you say and what you put out into the world. Because at the end of the day when this girl comes back and she makes her come back, you’ll be eating your words.

I believe Mulkey knows HVL isn’t ready for the WNBA. She exposed HVL to all the WNBA scouts. She’s not effective as a point guard. She commits too many turnovers especially in crunch time and her handles as a PG are mediocre. When defenders pressure her she either picks up the dribble and stalls the play or she commits a turnover. I think Mulkey didn’t want to tell HVL she wasn’t ready for the next level instead she put her on the best player in Caitlyn to cement what she(Mulkey) knew the entire season. If she couldn’t guard Caitlyn, she wouldn’t be able to guard any player in the WNBA!

On top of that, combined with the toxicity of the LSU culture, she was doomed to fail. Caitlin toasted her on every occasion and Mulkey had her sent to the bench within the first 3 minutes of the game. How are they all feeling about HVL now? She made that team worse every time she stepped on the court. Coming out of HS she had a very quick first step but added pounds have eroded her quickness. Now you are left with a slow, short guard who is not an elite shooter or passer, and is a poor defender. What does that add up to? DII level talent at best which is what she had on full display in the Iowa game. Any WNBA team picking her is absolutely wasting a draft choice.

  • @BrotherWatsonofWattsWatsonProd

I put the blame on LSU's coach, period. I have no issues with Hailey defending Clark, but once the Iowa pick came, why Coach M didn't have the weak side defender trap Clark to disrupt the offense would have been more effective. Even when Clark drove the lane, zero weak side help, that is coaching. On the offense, Reese, GIVE ME THE BALL. that made Hailey hesitant to shoot, even when she drove the lane, she was thinking pass first which killed her rhythm, That is coaching. Hailey gave maximum effort and was left on an island and she deserves none of the blame. Lastly, besides coaching. Reese has so many holes in her game, namely, she can't shot passed 8 feet, nor can she shoot foul shots. She didn't add to her game over the summer, so Iowa simply packed it in and dared LSU to score from the outside, but they was too busy forcing it in to Reese. That is bad coaching.

She'll likely be a 3rd round pick and cut after a week in camp when she is done with college.

Her biggest problem is she was never hungry to begin with. As much as I dislike Angel Reese, at least she was hungry. At least that woman had fight in her. That said, Hailey Van Lith only joined them because she thought it would be her fast track to getting a championship. If she does return, I hope losing this game to Iowa (and for her second year in a row) fuels a fire in the pit of her stomach. I hope she works on her game this summer and stays off of social media.

Yes it looks like she made a mistake, however, I love people who bet on themselves bc if you don't who else is gonna but sometimes it can go wrong as it did in her case. She just doesn't have PG instincts and has never taken playing D seriously. But I still feel bad for her although like you said she brought it all on herself with all of the crazy interviews she did. Btw I agree with you matching her up with Caitlin Clark really killed her prospects. Sadly for her Angel Reece has already declared for the WNBA earlier today.

Agree with all of that Calvin. I really like that she took a chance but that interview really set her up as she is an easy target to hate as she is attractive, smart and confident and people are jealous of her. And then Kim did her no favours by putting her on CC IMO. Yep appears Angel declared while I was sleeping so video dated in less than 4 hours.

  • @DirectionlessStudent
    @DirectionlessStudent 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree she clearly made a mistake. However, I would be careful about using her as a case study or comp since she was somewhat of an anomaly in many ways -- not least of which was her tendency to overestimate how good she was. As you pointed out, she and her dad did a ton of self-promotion even in HS, and they were always trying to make her out as a superstar. You may recall as she was coming out of HS she railed about the fact that Paige received so much more attention since she was just as good as Paige. Right... Frankly, I don't even see HVL as WNBA material since she is pretty one-dimensional.

I think she transferred to LSU because she wanted to have what Caitlin Clark was having and she didn't think that would happen at Louisville. She is not CC. Never will be. Caitlin showed on Monday night what would happen to Hailey in the WNBA. HVL might get drafted in the WNBA by some team just wanting a quick ratings boost, but that would end quickly because HVL won't make it there and whatever fan base she has now will rapidly move on. Too short, too slow for the next level. Yes, she made a big mistake going to LSU.

Kim Mulkey definitely was out coached and should have made adjustments asap. Hailey van lifth was left to dry and like one of the ESPN analysts stated it was almost criminal. This poor girl didn’t have a chance and all they needed was someone to slow Clark down not stop here the game last year jasmine clark and Morris were able to disrupt her rhythm they made shots and that was the difference. She should definitely leave lsu and go somewhere else you could tell she wasn’t feeling the environment but had to take up for her teammates and endure these hardships if I’m here I’m headed anywhere but lsu so she can play the two position. This was so sad that I’m wondering if this was payback from Mulkey because van lifth was saying how they were dealing with some racial issues.

Soany coaching mistakes were made and Reese is just lazy on defense but oh yeah it's all HVL's fault. So many people with zero basketball knowledge posting up in here. Smh

Lsu played great team defense at times. Haley and Williams were liabilities at times but thevreuth is HVL struggles on defense nothing new. Imo whatever draft stock she had at Louisville she still has today. She lost ground in the public eye bur as far as W scouts they are familiar with her game strength and weakness and I don't thinknshe had much draft stock in the 1st place. The W is not for the weak. Imagine the NBA had 12 teams, a lot of college guys now wouldn't get a look at all. You need an all around game to think about the W or at least dominate in something.

  • @OriginalJohnDoeFakersBeware

I think she had an okay year given that she was new to the point guard position and playing on a team with other reliable scorers. It clearly showed in games that she is learning the position and is not a master of it. Her assists and steals stats are not what they should be but the lower points total from her last year at Louisville can be partly attributed to LSU highly-talented teammates doing most of the scoring and partly to a lower field goal percentage possibly induced by the challenge of the position switch and to better defenses on her so she wouldn't heat up in games.
It is difficult for any rookies to make WNBA rosters due to only 144 roster spots. I think she would be drafted and signed but might not make roster and would end up playing overseas to resume development of her game so that in a year or few she can make a W roster and excel as a pro. If she elects to develop her game in college, she has opportunity to be a higher draft selection and make a roster next year but dependent upon how she does in that fifth year.

This is the result of the portal. IOWA is dangerous due to nearly all the players on the court have been playing together for 3 plus season. That is like having another player on the court. HVL has been brainwashed into believing she is great and Caitlyn broke her ankles to prove how overrated she actually is. No WNBA team will draft her after that performance.
