    Ive seen a few people complain about these sundown amps. Being a little weak maybe idk. Glad ot is working out for you guys. I really know how it feels to change your amps out and notice such a big difference and wonder just why and what's causing that yeah I get that so very much.

  • @JasonWW2000
    @JasonWW2000 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I would put your electrical RTA on both amps and run pink noise into them just to verify that they're output response curve is identical.
    I dont think its likely, but maybe the JP53 has a bit of bass boost built in around 38hz.
    I would want to eliminate this possibility.

      You can also set up your SPL meter and play some test tones. Write down the output at each frequency. I bet you have a pretty flat response between 38hz and 44hz. 44hz might have been a tiny bit louder with some amps. The other amp might shift things very slightly to show 38hz is now slightly louder. You can use a frequency generator app on your phone and Bluetooth it to the radio. See if the difference in output is very tiny or a lot.
      Normally these size vehicles peak around 44hz, but when you add an enclosure that's tuned lower, the new peak is going to be a combination of the box and vehicle. You have to get really loud, though. All my small boxes and low power subs can't shift the vehicles 44hz peak.
      I wish I knew more, but I'm kinda limited when it comes to high spl vehicles. I bet you some long term spl competitors know exactly what's going on.

    This is interesting because I had a similar experience back in the 90's with an amplifier that did similar, I loved it. I have never really tried to duplicate it and at the time I just thought I bought a better amp. I don't still have the original but a few years back I bought one for nostalgia as it was like $40. If I can ever find the time, I am going to do some testing and see if it does the same now that I have multiple amps from that era. I always wondered if it was the head unit, crossover or the amp. Guess we will see. This sounds like a fun experiment.

      @@ronaldklein4050 that’s very interesting Ronald! I can think of 9 different amps that we’ve had in this Tahoe. The resonant frequency has been 44Hz on 8 of them.

    Ok, the jp53; is probably designed with bass frequencies enhanced. The individual components of the amp have resonance as well and have to be matched and beta gain matched so as to work in as perfect harmony as possible. This allows for more even current flow through the circuit. It makes for a serious tough amp with long life span.
    It is expensive 💰 to beta match component parts for equal gain, but it will lower the potential bass frequency down on lower notes and the amplifier like it.
    Of course you have to feed that current hungry animal too. I would suggest a seperate charging circuit like twin oversiZe alternators and multiple batteries and capacitors. I used to use an Autocar deisel big truck 🚛 alternator to power my sub amplifiers ( 2 15" 4 ohm impedance dual voice coils parallel to 2 ohms impedance for each subwoofer. ) i ran dedicated amp to subwoofer in a common sealed small box encosure design.
    Car audio had advanced much since the old days.

      I have the 5k. I'm wired to .5ohm but it's rising to 1ohm or more. If I turn it up until it clips, the protect light flashes with it, lol. It didn't do that when I wired it to 2ohm. So far, so good, though. I haven't had any problems with it over heating or shutting off. This way, I have headroom, and I'm able to adjust the gain down. Before, I had to turn it up to soft clip. Now I don't smell coils like I did when I was clipping. Overall, I am very happy with this NVX. Looks like they are discontinuing them. Maybe they are going to go with smart versions like the other brands.

    Nice but I'm 100% sure why your at a lower frequency is your low pass frequency is set to low. Also do you have your bass boost on and if so is your bass boost have a crossover frequency? If your bass boost peaks at your low pass than set it to a higher crossover frequency around 50hz.

    • @stereomojo
      @stereomojo  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RyanBassForLife we’re very stumped as well. Bass boost off and crossovers set correctly. We even opened the crossovers up more than usual to make sure that 44Hz wasn’t being sloped off. We’ve had 9 amps in this Tahoe. 8 of those amps allow the vehicle’s resonate frequency to be 44Hz.

    • @RyanBassForLife
      @RyanBassForLife หลายเดือนก่อน

      @stereomojo I'm not sure what would cause that. Might got to tune your box higher somehow or switch your amplifier. Try 2 Taramps smart 8k or a 2 Slapz audio 8ks.

    @StereoMoJo- How is it possible to be wired @ 1 ohm, with the JP53, & on music= after rise, & still make over 5k? If you tested this with an SMD Amm-1 set to Dynamic, then i would understand that. Good video. But i am wondering how much power you got from the Welsh Audio 8k, & 5k, measured the same way as you tested the JP53?

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because the JP53 makes well over rated power. Then when you bump up the voltage, the power goes even higher. Then you measure it with music and the dynamic power goes even higher. If you don't mind it clipping a little, the power can go higher still. Also when playing music the impedance can sometimes drop a bit lower than normal at certain frequencies.

    • @evilinside5984

      @@JasonWW2000- I'm a SPL competitor, & i consider the term lab power probes as the standard to be used, when testing power, except when testing some full bridge amplifiers, then i would go by amperage pulled through the amps power inputs, x volts x amp eff.= real power, & only when slow rolled, & held for a full 3 to 4 sec. I don't consider the Amm-1 set to dynamic, to be accurate. I have seen it read waaaay too high, set to dynamic. Like a Big Boss 3k Bass, measured 10k on an Amm-1= yeah right! It's my opinion, & don't try to change my mind!

      @@JasonWW2000 - I had an amp that tested 5200 Rms @ 14.4 volts, to clipping, on an SMD Amp dyno, @ 1 ohm. I wired it to 1.2 ohms (actual ohm load @ rest), and ran it on a 16 volt battery bank, with a dedicated 350 Amp Mechman Alt.= (only used for the Bass side), with an externally mounted adjustable Regulator, set to 18.0 volts. I tested it like this, & after rise, it only put out 2,500 watts, @ 17.5 volts! Then i was able to wire it to a .6 ohm load, & after rise, it did 4,700 watts, @ 17.0 volts! Then finally, i got a second identical amp, & strapped the pair @ .6 ohms= .3 ohms per amp! I made 11k, so only 5,500 watts per amp, but my voltage did drop a ton= down into the 14s🤦‍🤔 charging @ 18volts!

      @ one of the ported boxes for sure. As far as which type of port, that’s a toss up usually.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Speaking very generally, a sealed enclosure will start rolling off the bass around 40 or 45hz with a shallow roll off.
      A ported enclosure tuned around 30-33hz can give you a more flat response. It might start rolling off around 26-28hz.
      The end result is you have a lot more low end bass between 30-40hz. So if you like that lower frequency bass and listen to music that has it, you'll probably prefer the ported box.
      Just keep in mind that most prefabricated ported boxes are tuned really high, like 40-45hz to give big bass boosts. They usually don't sound good. You have to make sure to get a box that's tuned low.
